Wedding centerpiece suggestions needed

For our wedding we used small glass bowls (got them from Michael's and they are called Ivy bowls for only .89 cents each) we filled them up with water and had a small fish in each bowl (they were about 15cents each) we also put purple rocks (fish tank rocks pebbles) at the bottom the bowl and then had floating candle on top.

What happened to the fish? :confused3

I helped my best friend with centerpieces that came out very well. It was for a night wedding so she wanted an elegant romantic touch. We got hurricane lamps for $5 each, put some dried lavender in it and a vanilla candle. When the candle burned it increased the scent of the lavender. It looked lovely, smelled divine, and was very romantic.

Wow! I'm afraid my centerpieces were a little tacky compared to all these beautiful suggestions, but here goes:

We had balloons. I think there were three or five balloons at each table, in the wedding colors, shimmery silver ribbons attached to each, weighted down with sand inside a shimmery white gift bag at the center of each table. We also had a ton of similar balloons over the dance floor. The helium held them against the ceiling and the shimmery ribbons hung down above the dancer's heads. We wanted more of an informal, "party" atmosphere at our reception, and it worked for us. The florist did them, and it was cheap. I don't remember how much, plus it was 13 years ago, so I'm sure it'd cost more now.

Good luck!

When my daughter got married, we decided that we wanted the centerpieces to be different on each table.....I scoured the thrift shops, antique shops, etc for vintage bowls, you will be surprised the nice antique cut glass bowls you can find reasonably....anyhow we kept the same color theme but each centerpiece was different. We did have a florist do them in all Fall colors, and gave them to special people at each table to take home....as Mother of the bride, I picked who I wanted to have them....they still use the bowls for fruit, serving pieces etc and remember that it came from my daughter's wedding..

I bet you could do this yourself, cranberries and water in the cut glass bowls, and fall or Christmas flowers and greens..

This wedding will be in July, so no Christmas themes.
I still do not know what the colors will be.

OK.....well, how about this.. instead of cranberries... seashells or beach glass, I love that, and then appropriate flowers for the summer...

My coordinator mentioned something inexpensive that she likes to use as a centerpice. She uses different size vases and fills them with candy. Then each guest has a small bag that they can fill up with the candy. It's very non-traditional but it sounds like fun!

Another vote for the candles. Put a few candles together in various heights and decorate with f.example rosebuds and pearls.

icebrat001 - don't know about Samandmom's fishies, but my friend's were returned to the hobbyist fish breeder relative whom she borrowed them from, and presumably had happy fishy little lives everafter :flower:

I got small candle holders and long taper candles at the dollar store ($1 each). The holders were frosted glass & didn't look "cheap" ;) . I then had my florest make a small basket of pink & white (my colors) flowers. I told her to use whatever was in season w/ no carnations. I think I paid around $20 each for those.

Please note, if you use those little "stubby" candles, they probably won't burn for your whole reception, unless your reception is ver short. My long tapers burnt about 3/4 of the way down.

I don't have any pictures scaned. But it was an nice elegent look for not "too" much money.

(I'd second the scan the Dollar stores and thift stores. You never know what will catch your eye. If you don't yet have a theme, you may find something you like to start your theme.)

I got married this past June, and the theme for out wedding was Cape Cod/Ocean theme (we both live on Cape Code so it was easy). So for our center pieces we bought a bunch of small glass bowls, placed sea shells in them. We then filled the bowl up with water, with the water level up to, and just past, the top of the shells, and placed a single rose in it (don't cut the stem to short-the stem helps to hold it in place). I'm not sure how much we paid for all of it, but it was a big discount because we bought most of our stuff at craft stores and places like that. If you don't have sea shells, you might try substituting it with something else. Hope this helps.

Before deciding on candles you have to find out if the hall allows candles (ours didn't)

We had small gold vases with small balloon boquets (3 ballons in our wedding colors) there was also foil that matched the wedding color they looked very elegant, if I do say so myself. I was pleasantly surprised.

Since DH and I met in the theater, we had the black and white slate "clapboards" that are used in filming a movie and tied balloons to them.

Whatever you do don't do the goldfish:fish:, especially with a candle floating above them. I was at a wedding where they did that, and by the end of the night, half of the fish were dead! I don't know, maybe it was the candles they used that killed them. But however they died, it was very unappetizing. You don't want dead fish on the dinner table.

I ordered bulk flowers (Hydrangeas) at Sam's Club and used those for my centerpieces I got vases in bulk for less then a dollar a piece. I think we had candles too. It was pretty, and inxpenesive!
