Does anyone know if the recent webcast BLT add-on offers can be purchased with 2010 points? If so, which UY's would get those points? Contemplating a small add-on (shhhhh. . . don't tell my DW!)

To add a bit to lilpooh108's post -

You will get current year points with any direct purchase from Disney (if available. Some of the use years for the sold out resorts do not have current use year points available)

Right now (on May 22,2011), those with June, August, September, October & December use years are still in their 2010 use year. If they purchase, they would get 2010 use year points with their purchase.

Those with February, March & April use years are in their 2011 use year, so those purchases would get current use year points from 2011.

Except for Aulani - no 2010 points as the resort is not yet open.

Regarding getting 2010 points if you are within current use year when you buy, do you pay maintenance fees on the 2010 points? I have no idea how it works, but do you usually pay annual dues at the beginning of every calendar year for the matching use year's points? What I mean is, if I get Dec 2010 points (since I'm still in use year), would I have normally paid those maintenance fees in early 2010 (even though I don't get the points till Dec), and since I'm buying in the middle of the use year, they will assess those fees to me when I close? Or do I get them as freebies? Or am I missing the time frame for annual dues completely?

Sorry for the convoluted question. :goodvibes

Yes but:

If Aulani opens as scheduled on Aug 29, 2011, it will still be true for those with September, October and December (and maybe August) use years, won't it?

Maintenance fees would be prorated based on the date you commit to purchasing the points. For example your UY is August and get 2010 and 2011 points when purchasing. You would pay MF for 2011 for May through December. And no maintenance fees for 2010, if the points are available.

No one did or will get 2010 Aulani points, they don't exist as the resort is opening in 2011.

MF's are based on calendar year and not UY, so you pay based on when you own. If you buy in 2011, then you pay 2011 MF's. Since you did not own in 2010 (even if you are getting 2010 UY points), you would not owe MF's for that calendar year.

When you purchase a resort still under construction, the date in which the MF's start is a bit more complicated, but they can not start until the resort is open.

Yes you will pay some of the dues on the current-year points. For example, if you purchase a Dec UY contract on June 1, 2011 and you get the Dec 2010 UY points you will owe dues starting from June 1st, approximately 7 months worth of the 2011 calendar year dues but no 2010 calendar year dues. If they are sold out of Dec 2010 points and your first points will be Dec 2011 points, you will owe dues starting from Dec 1st, approximately 1 month's worth of the 2011 calendar year dues. So that full set of 2010 UY points costs you only 6 months worth of dues with a June 1st purchase date.

Some people try to optimize this by waiting until close to the end of their current UY to make their purchase. For example, if you purchase on Nov 1st instead of June 1st and get current (Dec 2010) UY points, you would pay only 2 months worth of 2011 calendar year dues. That's only 1 month of additional dues over what you would pay if your contract started with 2011 UY points instead. So you get a full set of 2010 UY points but pay only 1 month's worth of dues on those points. The risk here is that as you get close to the end of your UY they might run out of current UY points.

With a December UY, the dues paid in Jan 2011 for the 2011 calendar year cover 11/12ths of your Dec 2010 UY and 1/12th of your Dec 2011 UY. So no, you are not paying in January for points coming in December. You are paying for the last 11/12ths of your 2010 UY points and the first 1/12th of your 2011 UY points.

ETA: As Sandisw said, if you are purchasing a resort under construction, dues do not begin until the later of: your purchase date, the start date of your initial UY and the occupancy date of the Unit you purchased within the resort (which might be later than the opening date of the resort if the resort opens in phases).

The annual dues are not based on UY but calendar year. The 2010 dues are already paid. And if you purchase direct the 2011 MF are prorated based on your purchase agreement.

LisaS, thank you very much for the detailed explanation! I think I understand now! So basically I am only going to pay about 7 months worth of dues (Jun-Dec) in calendar year 2011, and it'll be (essentially) for all of my 2010 points and 1/12 of 2011 points... right? Hahaha, I think I got.

MF's are based on calendar year and not UY, so you pay based on when you own. If you buy in 2011, then you pay 2011 MF's. Since you did not own in 2010 (even if you are getting 2010 UY points), you would not owe MF's for that calendar year.

Awesome... this - I understand. How cool. :thumbsup2
