My family and I are going to Disney World next week (June 15-20), and I am getting nervous looking at the weather forecast. It will be scattered thunderstorms or thunderstorms every day next week. Has anyone spent their entire vacation at DW in the rain?

This will be the same forecast all during summer. Every day in the summer, there's a chance of rain. Sometimes you'll get a 3:00 afternoon thunderstorm, sometimes you won't. The weather patterns are very localized, due to the geography of FL. These storms don't last very long, usually - about 45 - 60 minutes. Often, it rains in one park, but won't in another. We go every July and some years we haven't had a drop of rain in 11 days and other years, it's rained every day (not all day, though).

That is the South for you. I live in Georgia, and our extended forecast has scattered thunderstorms everyday most weeks at this time of year. Whether we actually have them or not is another story. You can usually count on them to hit for a brief period most afternoons. On sweltering hot humid days, they can be a welcome addition to cool it down a bit.:umbrella:

You can pretty much set your watch to the time thunderstorms happen. If they are coming from the West, then about 4-5pm is when it happens. Normally, not very long lasting. I would suggest to bring your own ponchos in as the ones you buy inside will cost you a few bucks. Here's hoping you can avoid the rain!

3 years ago when we went to the WL it rained our entire stay. No kidding!!! It was awful. They said it was a tropical wave or something. I have never seen rain like this. It came down so hard and fast that one afternoon we were walking in water up to our ankles.
Even the WL had water coming in under the doors in the lobby and thru the window.
All I can say is bring lots of dry shoes or sandals that don't soak up water and go buy some cheap ponchos in the camping section of Walmart or Target.

Trust me, I live in Flordia, and sometimes it rains on one side of the highway and not the other. Although we sometimes have long rain showers, it shouldn't be that bad. Plus, everyone leaves the parks when it's raining, so they shouldn't be too crowded.

I'm glad to hear everyone say the rain isn't too bad. But it sure seems like it's been raining alot this week!! I often check the internet during the late afternoon and most of the week I've seen "HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS" as the current weather in Orlando. We have a Fantasmic diiner package reserved Sunday night and I'd hate to have the show cancelled that night.

At least rain keeps the crowds down. And we have our ponchos!!

I'm at the resort right now, and it was raining REALLY hard for about an hour or so earlier -- it's still raining now. The really scary thing for me were the lightning strikes that sounded really close here at Pop Century!

Not to be too discouraging, but in this stuff, I don't know if a simple poncho would do the trick! On the bright side, however, it did force me to take some much-needed "down-time!" LOL

It has rained extremely hard all week here at WDW...but not as horrible as tonight. It rained so terribly (lots of thunder and lightning, too) that a lot of people were pulled over on the side of the road, trying to wait it out.

It started raining about 5:15, and it's still raining now (9:33). Steady, heavy rain. It makes my car floorboards flood, so it needs to stop for tonight!!!

Hubby and I just returned on Monday and it rained once atleast everyday. All days except for one it was a passing thundershower - about an hour or so. But our 2nd day there we had a storm that lasted a good 2-3hrs. We came prepared with ponchos and took that time to grab a bite to eat in Epcot's UK. We waited it out and before we knew it the sun came out in time to set and it turned out to be a gorgeous and COOL night for Pleasure Island antics.

One word of warning and I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but the sun was very intense. On the last day I got very ill and I think it was a combination of a fast "gotta see/try/taste" everything mode AND the very hot days. So take it easy, relax and ENJOY the rain the best you can.

It didn't make it any less magical...

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It won't rain the entire time, not this time of year.

Just pack some ponchos and plan on early days. That's the best plan for summertime, beat the heat (well the extreme heat anyway) and the rain.

Some days it will rain others it won't, others it'll rain at 2 and others it will rain at 4...and sometimes earlier and sometimes later. It is unpredictable when but pretty predictable that it will...

The rain is very scattered so it can last 20 minutes or a few hours, just depends on the storm size.

It won't wash out your whole vacation, not in June. Sometimes in the later summer months tropicals systems develop and they can make several days of rain (usually Aug -early Oct).

This is FL and we need that rain. If we don't get that rain, then the wildfires will start and believe me you'd rather have rain than smoke all day. That was bad in May of 2001.

And like meaneausindisney mentioned it is VERY HOT this time of year when the sun is out so just try not to do TOO much. The sun is at it's most intense in June in Florida.
