Is the weather really bitterly cold, or is it not too bad if you're wrapped up? I also take it that the restaurants in the village are all heated adequately?

Hi robfosters and welcome to DLP DIS board :wave2:
We are a friendly bunch here so please join in on any other thread or if you have a number of questions then just start a new thread for each :goodvibes

If you have not had a look yet, posting guidelines can be found here and details regarding help on signatures here

In the winter months it can get bitterly cold and thermals are often suggested by posters who have went during these times. Restaurants are heated but it you are seated near the door may be drafty :)

now, I may be the dissenter here (or I may have been lucky) This fall was very warm in Europe, but it did get very stormy the first week of Dec. I went to DLRP several times and really struggled with the temperature. As a guide, the warmed was about 12 degrees celcius, the coldest right around freezing with very strong winds.

First wearing a wool sweater, wool peacoat, and scarf at night - was dripping with sweat. Then wore a wool sweater with tshirt underneath, and scarf - much better. During the stormy weather I finally relented and wore my peacoat, but with a tshirt only underneath. The peacoat was only because wearing a sweater earned me odd looks.

Frankly, I am no longer used to the heat indoors in Europe. Going into Blue Bayou, POTC, many of the shops, rides, etc is just difficult when they are so warm inside.

So my thoughts are layer layer layer. Wear a tshirt with a sweater on top and a wool coat. Take hat/mittts/scarf. Prepare to use a locker. Prepare to remove/add layers as required.

I love going to WDW when it's cold, and was a little disappointed that I wasn't so cold at DLRP...

It was really cold for me on 25-28 of December.

I was layered with thermal long-sleeved shirt, angora wool sweater and thermal coat, fleece hat, goretex Ecco boots, but still was freezing waiting for the popular rides. thanks there was no rain on that days.

I must be a woosy girl as I found it bitterly cold throughout our whole stay. We all wore several layers including thermals, tights etc. We used glove warmers in the evenings, which were a godsend (thanks for the tip) and face scarfs, hats AND earmuffs and after a few hours we still felt the cold.

We tried to warm up every few hours, stopping for coffee or chocolate and a warm inside.

On a positive note - at lease you can get around in the cold, we were lucky not to see a drop of rain which I would imagine would stop many from getting out and about. Cold and wet - that must be the worst conditions possible for a theme park.

Mind you, when we left on the 29th its was very sunny and much milder so fingers crossed any dissers going now could get lucky.

Hi

I noticed you mentioned glove warmers, Where did you them from? Are they woollen or gel? They sound like they could be invaluable as we are going in February.

Thanks!

I bought them off ebay leanne. They look like a teabag and are activated by the air when taken out of the wrapping.

They stayed warm for about 6/7 hours - we even resorted to moulding them around our noses when we lost all feeling in them - LOL.

Heres the link. I cant remember who posted this sugestion originally but thanks anyway.

I did notice that Sephora had the hand warmers (not that I was buying them ;) ) in Val d'Europe shopping centre

Hi Sarah!

Are the ones in this ebay sale the same as those you had?
There seem to be so many different ones around I'd like to get some that I have someones recomendation on.

Thanks for your help!

I can handle the cold temps, it's that darn wind I don't like. Crossing my fingers for a mild December 2007 lol

They are the ones Raci. I notice in their ebay shop they also do foot warmers - will take those next time too. :goodvibes

They are a godsend but please watch if using them with children - they get VERY hot to touch so should only be used by children old enough to be able to tell you they are too hot. They warm up and cool down randomly during the 6/7 hours which was good as we passed ours around based on the temperature.

Thanks Sarah! :) I'll go ahead and get some :goodvibes
The kids will be 7 and 8 when we're there so we might get them to put the warmers in their pockets instead of their gloves, so they can pop their gloved hands in their pockets to get them warm without them getting too hot. I guess it will all depend on the weather when we are there.

I bought some walking boots from an outdoor shop not long before christmas and asked them about foot warmers. He said they do not recomend them because it throws your whole bodys temperature system out of sinc to artificially warm feet when you're out, it is better to use thick thermal or walking socks. Never tried it so have no experience about how effective it would be.
Has anyone ever tried using them?
