Hi all! Me and my extended family are heading to DLR the first week of December. Trying to figure out how we need to dress each day. Also trying to manage things with a backpack, although we may choose to use a locker from time to time. How would you suggest dressing first thing in the morning and then how many layers do you think you need as the night wears on? If I wear a hoodie then would I need to add a long sleeve shirt underneath for the evenings (we do tend to stay late) and would that be enough or am I looking for another layer besides that. Light gloves, scarf, headband or hat? Really hard for us to figure this out so we remain comfortable for the entire day without having to head back to the hotel. Thanks so much!

What type of weather are you used to?

If you plan on riding the water rides (Tiana's and Grizzly River Run), I would bring a change of clothes (including socks and shoes) and put them in a locker. I usually change into running shorts and flip flops and then change back into my regular clothes. This past week, there were many riders on Tiana's wearing crocks and rain boots. I would also bring a poncho for those rides.

That’s a tough question to answer. You are likely to need multiple layers and probably light weight gloves and a knit hat. If there is rain in the forecast, you will want to have rain jackets/ponchos etc handy. We tend to dress a bit on the lighter side for rope drop unless it is windy and add a layer or two for late nights depending on temps. The types of attractions you plan to ride will also need to be considered as high speed outdoor rides such as Incredicoaster, Big Thunder, Silly Symphony Swings etc add wind chill to the equation. If you are planning to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in December, I would recommend wearing a poncho and bringing a change of shoes, socks and possibly pants to the park and storing them in a locker. Have a great trip!

We live in the Highlands in Victoria, Australia and in Winter it barely gets above 50 so your Winter temperatures for us will be positively balmy. If you see some silly woman riding her ECV in DL in 3/4 pants, sandals, a tee shirt and sunhat the first week of December that will be me. I will be sweating if the temperature gets above 80. :beach:

Thanks so much for that input. I currently live in western Canada so quite used to very cold. Trying to temper my clothing choices as I feel inclined to over pack for potential weather! We do intend to do Tiana’s as well as Grizzly River Run. Perhaps we should hop and do them one after the other! Will we get soaked on both? Sounds like layers and a locker would be the best solution.

You will likely get wet enough to be uncomfortable on both. Ponchos help protect clothing, but not shoes and socks. It is a smart idea to do both back to back, but they are pretty far apart. Google Maps says 0.8 miles and a 16 min walk.

If you are from western Canada, I think you would be fine in jeans and a sweatshirt at rope drop. I usually wear a tshirt under my sweatshirt so I can take the sweatshirt off if I get warm. As the days are getting colder, there are fewer hours when I go without a sweatshirt. Last week, I think it was off for a couple of hours midday and then I put it on again.

Unless we have an unusual cold week, I don't think you will need gloves. A beanie is fun and tends to keep the body warm, but it isn't necessary. If you are moving around the parks in the evening you will be fine. If you are waiting to watch Fantasmic and fireworks, you'll probably want extra layers (and maybe gloves) because it can get cold sitting on the ground at the waterfront.

What type of souvenirs do you tend to purchase? If you think you might purchase a beanie, sweatshirt, rain jacket, etc. then factor that into what, and how much, you pack.

Also from western Canada, and we leave Saturday for Disneyland. The forecast of a few scattered plus 25-26 days…. What is that in American….like 80 degrees…. Is throwing me off. I was prepared to pack just jeans and sweatshirts for everyone with the thought we’d maybe take the sweatshirt off for a few hours. But now I don’t know what to do. We don’t intend on going back to our hotel at all, so I’m thinking we will still just wear pants all day since I know how chilly the morning and evenings feel. Packing for Florida is so much easier 🤣

Depends on not only what you are used to but how you "run' temperature wise. When in May, many people had sweatshirts on in the evening but I felt it was too warm for me personally.

When I go in December I plan on long sleeves and a sweatshirt in the morning, probably stashing the sweatshirt in a locker at lunchtime. In the evening I plan to wear the sweatshirt with a jacket, as we will be sitting out watching WoC and Fantasmic. If I was on the move I would probably skip the jacket.

Looks like we’re getting some above average warm weather next weekend. I think you’ll want t-shirts to layer under your sweatshirts. 80-85 F weather for *me* I prefer shorts but I run hot. You’ll see people in jeans in those temps. Evenings will be cooler so either bring clothes to change into and out of, or break at the hotel to change.

I noticed that! I now have shorts, t shirts, jeans, and sweatshirts for everyone for each day of our 8 day trip 😜🤣. Thank goodness we have free baggage!

Lol, I’ll be in jeans that Saturday, but DH will be in shorts. I usually bring a sweater or hoodie for the morning and evening, DH will likely skip.

I think people tend to discount how much it cools down in the evening, and how even if it’s not too cool for adults it’s sometimes too cold for the little ones. We made that mistake once when our kids were very little — they were miserable, which made us miserable. We came home with toddler sized Mickey Mouse jackets, lol, and never made that mistake again.

Layers are the key. Most of the time I can get by with a short sleeve t-shirt, lightweight jeans, and a sweater or hoodie. On hot days (90°F+) I’ll wear capris and comfortable sandals. On cold days I wear a long sleeve turtleneck or sweater, with a warmer jacket ready to put on if I’m cold. Not being cold tolerant, I’ll even bring a silk undershirt for a particularly cold night at the resort, changing into it after dark if we’re going to be standing waiting for a parade or nighttime entertainment. A beanie and gloves or fingerless mitts are nice when it’s cold and you’re standing still (or sitting on cold concrete).

25-26 C in America is 26 x 5 / 9 + 32 = 46.4 F. It is chilly at night, we live at 5000 ft/1650 m and routinely wear light weight jackets/hats/gloves at night.

Yes I know it can be chilly at night and in the morning sometimes. That’s what I was packing for. But then the weather forecast changed to have some 25 C days, even 28C now. I think your calculations are wrong because those temperatures are very warm summer days here in Canada. I don’t know the exact calculations, but I think the upper 20s in Celsius is more like the upper 70s in F. Hence the decision for packing…. Does one need shorts for just the few hours a day it gets warm and hassle with having to change, or just wear jeans to ensure comfort all day, including the cool mornings and nights? I’ve opted to just pack my whole closet anyways just to be sure 🤣

That isn't anywhere near correct.

10°C = 50°F
20°C = 68°F
30°C = 86°F
40°C = 104°F

So 25°F is around 77°F.

(I memorized the conversion of 0°-40°C in 10-degree steps years ago. Makes it easy to estimate what common Celsius temps mean to a native Fahrenheiter like me!)

For me, its the humidity...not the temperature. I live in high desert, very dry and when that marine layer rolls in, it chills me to the bone. At night, I'll be wearing a long sleeve thermal shirt and a light down jacket under my spirit jersey. And yes, I do resemble the Michelin Man (or Puffy the marshmallow man)!!! :rotfl2: Hats help too.

Needless to say, hard pass on Tiana this Christmas...I can wait til April.
