We are planning a cross country trip for December 2005, starting at Disneyland (1 day since we go there every year) and ending at
WDW (10 days). When we were at WDW last year I fell in love with FW. We are thinking about bringing our 17x19 tent with us and camping while we are there (Dec 9-19). Is the weather typically nice for tent camping, or would we be better off getting a cabin or staying at one of the hotels? We are planning on eating at the parks, probably just do a small breakfast at the campsite. We would definately want a preferred site.
Another question is can we put 2 tents on 1 site? I was thinking my son might want his own space.

I've never camped in December, but it should be OK. We did a some cold nights last year in December (I remember we kept having to cover our outside poinsettas), so you would have to plan accordingly. But, I just don't know if a preferred site would accomodate your large tent, let alone a 2nd one. We camped in a preferred loop (site 415) last year. Our tent, which is 18x10, just barely fit! One edge of the tent was touching the "sewer" sink, and the other was at the edge of the sand bed. In order to walk around the tent, we had to step down off the bed into the leaves. There were two trees in the bed, so it was impossible to place the tent in any other position.

You may want to consider the partial hookup sites, as I have heard those sand pads are larger than the preferred ones. I reserved one for May and requested loop 1500. I'm anxious to see if we have more room. But I will miss being in walking distance of the marina. At least we'll be close to the campfire. :-)

I tent camp at Ft. Wilderness every December!! Yes, it does get a bit chilly, but with an electric blanket or good coldweather sleeping bag you should be fine.

I've done this for four years now, two years it was quite balmy with nights never going below 60, and two years where it went into the 40s at night.

I would also recommend Loop 1500 as it does have larger sand pads than the preferred full hookup loops. They are also less per night.
