We are getting ready for our first trip to Disney and the forecast shows constant rain/thunderstorms. What should we bring to make the trip enjoyable? Ponchos, umbrellas, something else? Or am I worried for nothing? I just hate the idea of not getting to enjoy the parks with the kids! We are staying at Ft. Wilderness.

Hi and :welcome: to the DIS!

Since thunderstorms are a possibility every day in the summer in Florida, we always bring disposable ponchos. You can usually find them at Dollar Store, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

Bring one for everyone, times the number of days you will be there, and you'll be good to go. Enjoy your trip!

Ponchos are the way to deal with the rain.

Umbrellas are a bad idea on a number of levels:
  • The rain will be coming sideways
  • The wind will blow an umbrella inside out
  • The ends of an umbrella do not play well in crowds since they wind up about eye level
  • The umbrella is awkward to carry when not needed

We always wear a good pair of water shoes/sandals to the parks. Nothing is worse than wet shoes.:cool1:

all of the above:thumbsup2 Plus I wear glasses, so I bring a baseball type hat to keep the rain off those

I know for me i have to wear sneakers due to knee issues so to prepare for rain i put a pair of sturdy sandals in my backpack along with a lightweight jacket for light drizzles. I also throw a cheap poncho in my bag to cover my backpack if it gets really bad rain wise. I also wear hiking shorts or another type of pant that is moisture wicking. It is a bit of a pain lugging the backpack around but when the forecast calls for rain im always thankful i have my gear because i can continue touring uninterrupted and without having wet clothes/shoes.

Been doing Disney regularly since 1998 several trips a year including summer trips.

Now live near Disney.

GUESS what I never take poncho or umbrella into the parks haven't for years. NO I don't leave either just go inside an wait out the storm, DH an I would rather do that than carry things we may or may not use. But then if it doesn't fit in our pocket it not going in the parks with us.
