I was wondering if people that lived along I-77 and I-79 from Erie to Orlando know what the weather is going to be like this Friday night and Sat? I am driving to Disney with my dd her 2 kids and my ds and am wondering about the weather along that route.

We're supposed to get some snow in Buffalo, so it's possible Erie will too. More than anything though, it's going to be incredibly cold.

We have a 20% chance of snow flurries after midnight on Friday. I would imagine you'd be through here by then, though...

I live right off I-77 in northern West Virginia.

I actually looked up I-77 weather earlier this evening because we were debating driving from Cleveland to Orlando tomorrow. From what I saw on weather.com, as long as you get past Columbia, SC by the time you stop Friday evening, then you should be fine. You will definitely need to get past Charlotte, NC because starting about 6am Saturday morning, they will have icy rain. You will be faced with rain heading in Georgia and Florida on Saturday, though.

What time were you picking me up again? :cool1:

They are calling for a large amount of snowfall for most of North Carolina. Starting later tonight into tomorrow. I have heard anywhere from 2-10 inches towards Virginia and more ice toward SC.....

Thanks for the replies. I am not sure we would make it past Charlotte tonight. We are starting out from Ontario Canada and not leaving until about 4:30 p.m. We may have to take I-75 down. We don't mind it is just a longer drive and with a 4 and 2 yr. old it is nice to have less time in the car.
Also, my sil heard that there are people on I-75 that will cut you off and get you to stop and then rob you. That is scary. My sil is just worried about his kids and his wife.

Southern WV is expecting 6-10 inches overnight. Be very careful!

I'm about 40 miles North of Charlotte and the mess is predicted to start at about 7pm Friday Evening....per local news about 2 minutes ago. I'm right on the line...snow North of me and ice south of me. Should be interesting. Hope you are clear of the Carolinas by then. This is not the place you want to be in this weather. Alot of people think that because they live in a colder climate that they can drive well through this stuff.....not true. I grew up in New England and there is no way I would brave the roads around here.

I live near I-77 just south of Charlotte. They are calling for a 'wintery mix' here starting after 6pm tonight. The low temp tonight will be in the teens and not get above freezing tomorrow. North of Charlotte they are calling for 2-4 inches of snow and the farther north you go 4-8 inches.

I live close to I79 just a little south of Erie. Our roads here are clear and it is not snowing right now. Just really cold. If you need to stop somewhere for gas or lunch, Meadville is a good town and you will be very safe. Very friendly people and a yummy Cracker barrel.

I live just off I75 in Knoxville TN. We are expecting snow/freezing rain etc starting this afternoon, depending on the elevation and timing of the storm anywhere from 2 to 10 inches is expected for most of 75 through TN.

I have never heard of the cut you off/rob you scenario, at least not as an I75 exclusive or even more prevalent than on other interstates.

Drive safely and check road conditions throughout your trip, most welcome centers have that info.

The are predicting rain in Central Florida on Saturday. The Orlando area has the chance of severe weather Saturday afternoon.

Exactly. The early morning news said if you had to go south to do it by noon and if not, to wait until Sunday. This is I-77 between Charleston and Beckley, WV. Be careful!

The foothills of NC is expecting probably over 5" of snow over the weekend.

Be careful and take it slow!

Just wanted to thank everyone for the help with our route. We went down and back on route I-75. We are really happy that we did. On the way down we hit some black ice just south of Knoxville TN and were on the other side of the highway of a 18 car accident. We were stopped for almost 2 hours while we watched them trying to clear it up. On the way back the drive was great. We had no problems. The snow was on the other side the I-77-I-79 way.
