**Wearing PJ's in the theme parks**

My Name is Jess, I'm A Mickey's 21 y/o DD.

When I wake up at 6:00-a.m after a previous full day to get ready for another full day of multiple classes followed by either work or my internship I'm really not looking to Dress to Impress. I would never leave the house in my "Pj's from the night before" however I would leave in a Juicy Track suit, or even possibly my favorite sweat suit of all, my Victoria secret University Of Florida Collegiate outfit that cost me 150.00. Is this trashy? I had no Idea . I'm leaving my house at 6:45 for almost an hour drive to school, to sit in 3 to 4 classes to then drive another hour back home to get ready for work or my internship. I look cute for class but most importantly I'm comfy, and to me that is all that matters. Obviously you haven't been on a college campus lately...especially for 8:00-a.m classes.

When it comes to being comfy and cool in the park during the summer heat, well this shouldn't take much to figure out. I want to stay as cool as possible, also be comfy, however look respectable. I don't "let it all hangout". I stand at 5'4 and weigh 118pounds, there isn't too much to have hangout, and I know how to dress in clothes that FIT. In this heat with the humidity and knowing it will rain in the afternoon, anyone who is going to dress up to walk around a theme park is out of their mind. Why style my hair, so it can fall flat? Why put on a full face of make up, so it can sweat off and cause irritation to my skin.

Would I ever wear these "pj's" of mine to my Internship? Absolutely not, I know how to dress properly for any occasion. I just don't feel as if occasions such as 8:00-a.m classes, 9:00-p.m Ice cream runs or a day in the Magic Kingdom with thousands of sweaty gross people in the heat require a thought out outfit to impress.

Have a great night, I'm off to enjoy my ice cream, and put on my REAL pj's. Goodnight.

A rather large woman (no disrespect mean to large people...I'm not a skinny minnie myself) was wearing skin-tight light beige but disturbingly transparent pants through which you could see her panties and other things I really didn't want to see.

It is amazing what is out there these days.

Not too long ago I was at our local Large Women's Emporium and I found a pair of skintight black leggings that had a lace panel all the way up the sides--I mean from the calves to the waist!

Were you supposed to wear jazzy undies so you could have a splash of color? Or go commando?

But they were not in sleepwear section, so I suppose they're a-ok!

...and a little back ground on the one who is out in Pj's right now.. she works full time as a server, attends the local University full time and also is doing an internship with FOX news. She has a 3.9 GPA, doesn't drink, smoke or do drugs.. she takes care of herself, watches what she eats, exercises, has manners and can be a very classy young lady (I guess only when not in pj's). She is very well spoken and would help anyone who asked for help. She is not a teen/young adult getting by on mommy and daddy. She helps pay for her tuition, pays her own car insurance & phone bill. She saves most of her money..and her choice of purses are coach.. yep she has her $300 coach bag out with her now in her pj's.. is that classy enough for some? Oh and to add another comment that someone had said about wearing only name brands and nothing but the best.. the outfit she has on now is Abercrombie & Fitch...and the sweat suits she prances around in are Juicy.. so yeah, trashy, tacky outfits can be pricey name brands too...

She IS smart! Love that network.

On a different note...something my parents always taught us...be careful to brag too much about your kids, you never know what they are doing behind your back that everyone else does know...

I saw them in Macys. They are leggings and as most leggings ment to be worn with tunic type top, so nobody would see whatever "style" you decided to go with. I actually plan to buy those, they look very nice when properly worn.

Gee I brag about my son all the time. He is a marine and in Afghanistan, I am so proud of him.

My boys went to a private Catholic HS. The girls uniform is a plaid skirt below the knee, a white blouse, dark colored knee highs.

When I went to pick up my boys after school, I was appauled by what the girls were wearing in the parking lot....the skirts were rolled up so high that the girls wore boxers underneath so they wouldnt expose themselves. Somehow, the knee highs went out the door and everyone was wearing designer thigh highs. As soon as the bell rang, the blouses came untucked and they were tied in a knot above the belly button like a Britney Spears video.

As bad as that was..I fell over on dress down days (days you paid $3 to go to school out of uniform) The girls wore shirts. Thats it..no pants, no skirt, no leggings... They were tugging at the bottoms of them every 2 seconds to try to stay covered.

Bottom line is I would prefer to see them in the ugly flannel PJ bottoms!

Im so glad I had boys! Unfortunately I also have a 6 year old girl! I dont even what to think about the style in 2020!!

leggings = footless pantyhose not pants

Track suits are not the same as pajama pants. I don't care about track pants, yoga pants or even solid dark loungewear pants, but flannels or silk esp w prints are just not appropriate. That said, there are worse etiquette violations out there.

I just don't understand how people 30, 40 years ago, who lived less indulgent lives financially, darned their socks, etc. managed to look appropriate in public and today's people can't. My grandmother was a poor woman who came to the US with very little money and she may have had to mend her dresses and replace buttons or hand wash them but she always was clean, covered up and appropriate for the occasion. She had much less in her closet than most of us today but still managed to find something to wear.

I am making it personal because you guys were actually calling my DD's tacky, no class, lazy etc.... yes, my DD's wear their, what ever you care to call them, out in public. They are neat, clean, not cheap by any means, fit well and not wrinkled as if they slept in them. They did not sleep in them. My DD is actually out right now in a T-shirt and poka-dotted "flannel" shorts going to get ice cream for my DH who is in bed just home from surgery. Are they considered Pj's because they are flannel? Is she going to wear them to bed.. no.. she looks very comfy, clean and neat.. not tacky, classless and she is not lazy, she is the one out doing the running around. She is 21.. almost 22... does that excuse her? So yeah, I took it personally. When one uses words like that to describe someone out in Pj's, they need to think twice who they may be offending.. so is it personal & now that I got someones attention as to how they are putting down others they do not even know maybe you can understand why it would be personal.. :goodvibes
People need to think before they use words that attack someone. Words can hurt & can never be taken back..

People ALWAYS and ALWAYS will judge others by how they are dressed and LOOK. Many people feel Pj's/Lounge pants and sweats belong in the home or working out or that those people are lazy etc etc......people also jugde overweight people as lazy, dirty etc....Are these correct assumptions. No BUT its the society we live in. I am over weight, am i lazy..no I work retail i stand , yes stand for 8 hours a day ( many times more). I am a manager and am constantly moving. Do i eat candy bars, cakes and ice cream everyday NO, BUT that is what many in society probably think. We are ALWAYS going to be judged by our appearance..right or wrong. We have to just live with what others think BUT who cares what others think. You know the truth about your daughter being a good person and a wonderful daughter...i know i am a good person, loving, caring to my partner. ALL that matters is what we think/know about ourselves.

It's way too hot to wear pj's and sweats around here! I can't imagine wearing them to the parks either. I do have a pair of light cotton pj's but they're rather thin and I'd hate to see them get wet. I suppose that they're fine in the winter though but people have coats on so who can see them?

I love jeans when it's cool out and cotton shorts when it's hot. To each their own.

So maybe we should be the few who DON'T judge people based on their appearances. Who knows, maybe this thread has raised awareness. It's the "society we live in" because it has come "acceptable" to do so, to judge others based on our appearances. However, who are we to judge? No one is perfect. Maybe we should look in the mirror sometimes and correct whatever we are making fun of others about. People make fun of others because of their own insecurities.
I am not attacking you Tony or referring to you, I am just speaking of people in general. And I agree, all that matters is what we know about ourselves.

We shouldn't judge so much on appearances. But, IMO, it's actually better than it used to be. I think what clothes people wore and whether they wore makeup, etc. was really a big deal years and years ago. For example, my grandmother would have never considered even going to the doctor without wearing a dress, nice slacks and blouse, etc. My parents would have never gone out to eat wearing a windsuit, shorts, etc. People didn't go to church without dressing up and really trying to look their best. We can pretty much wear whatever we want as long as it is decent.

Actually I don't think we should judge, at all.

Now this is really getting humorous. Why pearlieq are you getting defensive? You seem quite angry. It seems to me that the launch post mentioned people in "general" wearing pj's at the theme parks. The poster and many others here gave opinions on pjs, yet you are making it very personal with the OP and the last member. People treat other's the way that they present themselves. Pajama's are for the bedroom and lounging in one's home not to be worn in public. I mean what would you think if someone wore a Victoria Secret teddy to the park, would that too be appropriate? At what point does sleepwear become street wear? By the way, lighten up.

Just saw your note. Well said and you are right on target!

Many sporting goods stores sell the flannel 'pj' pants some of you are in such a huff about, and they don't usually sell any other sort of nightwear/sleepwear. So, yes, they often are intended to be worn for leisure. Should people wear a button that says, "I bought these at Sports Authority"? Or does it matter that they are plaid with a team logo rather than striped with bunnies? :rotfl:

As long as someone practices good hygiene and isn't wearing something that should be rated NC-17, does it really matter?

Hon, can you get my bag, I am ready to go sit on the dirty seats that everyone walks on over at the PoC in the MK... oh, get the bag with all the pockets so I can take in my water bottles and snacks.. have no money left for them since I purchased this outfit especially to go to a theme park...You don't think my hat is too much, after all, I do so want to block the sun but doing so with style and class.
And thus began Lady Gaga's Disney vacation.

Wow, hard to believe I'm in the minority on this one. :confused3

It saddens me that so many in this country have taken the attitude that I can do what ever I want and if you don't like, it too bad. What ever happened to class and manners? I believe it is rude an in bad taste for grown women to be out in public in the clothes they wore to bed. Posters have said that it has become "acceptable" to wear pajamas in public. Just because some are doing it doesn't mean it is "acceptable." It is not. Too many people think that it is ok to go through life doing what ever they please as long as they aren't hurting anyone else. It is not. It is tacky and boorish. Please put your clothes on before going out. I can't believe that people have to be told this. :headache:

jb
I do say my good man, can you believe these cretins? Going out in public in their bed clothing? Why have they no manners! Have they no couth! What is the world coming to? *adjusts monocle* :snooty:

I honestly never thought I'd see people get so worked up about pajama pants. Chill people! Deep calming breaths! I guarantee you that people wearing pajama pants out in public will not cause the world to end.

I was gonna post an entire elaborate paragragh on my feelings on this subject. It was almost completely typed. Then I hit delete.
Instead, all I have to say is Get Over It.

If you are wearing pajama pants, have fun. You really don't care what uptight people think of you anyway.
If you don't like it, complain to the nearest person to you, roll your eyes, then continue to do what you came to Disney to do - have fun.

Me? I won't do it. But as I get older and care less what people think of me, I just might.

This thread is bewildering to me. I understand the call for manners. I understand the call for respect. What I don't understand is what either of those have to do with wearing pjs in public.

This whole argument to me is like the "men shouldn't wear hats indoors" rule. There is no good reason WHY people think that is bad manners to do so other than people think that it is. "Because I said so" wasn't good enough when I was 5, it's not good enough for me at 33 either.

Don't chew with your mouth open. It makes sense because no one wants to see a mouthfull of chewed up food. It's gross.

Don't wear clothes you slept in. THAT makes sense because clothes you sleep in tend to not be fresh - they can be smelly and again, that's gross.

Don't wear pajamas in public. Wait. What? Sure some pajamas are revealing, and clearly that's not appropriate because they are revealing. Most pajamas I see people wearing in public are more modest than many shorts, skirts, and even blue jeans most people think nothing of. So what is the problem here? How are pajama pants different from regular pants? They are made of a soft comfortable material? They have elastic waist bands? Is it the fun cute print many sport?

Wow. Soft comfortable material, elastic waist bands, cute prints. Yeah, man that is just plain rude. Seriously people?

No, I typically won't either. But, I will admit to running down the hall occassionally to a vending machine in one of my nice Victoria's Secret PJ sets. I bought them in case I was in that situation. I don't see a ton of girls dressing this way publicly. Of course, if you happen to be staying in a hotel where there is a nearby cheer or dance competition, I can promise you that you will see a huge number of all aged girls/young ladies in their PJ's gettting breakfast or drinks. we kind of encourage it since they go straight from their PJ's into a competition uniform and they can't wear a partial uniform. That really does look bad. DD also wore them for finals, EOC, and tests even in HS. It was the only time the school allowed them, but as a way to help them not be stressed, they did allow the kids to wear PJ pants.
