**Wearing PJ's in the theme parks**

I hate the trend. It's around here too.

It only takes 2 seconds to get dressed. I don't want to see pants down to knees either. I don't care if you think your boxers are cool. Pull up your pants, dude.

And if they aren't getting dressed, are they bothering to wash up, brush teeth and change underwear? I sure hope so!

It's not offensive to me, but it just screams laziness or no pride in how you look. Most of these girls and women look disheveled and unkempt. As if anything goes. I think this goes along with the pants guys wear that are about 20 inches BELOW their waist. You know, where you can see their underwear hanging out. :confused3 Now I am far from a prude, but I don't think you could land a job looking like this, IMO.

Brunette

I highly doubt anyone is going to a job interview in their PJ bottoms and it's like comparing apples to oranges. Why would you dress on vacation like you would at work? I wear things on vacation I would never consider wearing to work and I work at a company with absolutely no dress code. I'm not thrilled with my coworkers coming in wearing shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops but it's allowed at our company and the owner is there every day and sees everyone every day. So it's basically none of my business. Just like it's none of my business what anyone wears at a theme park. For all the people who want the "old days" of women wearing dresses or dress slacks and men wearing button down collar shirts, I hope you are not talking about those types of things while on vacation. A vacation is a break from your normal routine and life.

I have seen women in dresses and high heels at the park, touring and not just on their way somewhere. To me, that is not appropriate attire for a theme park. At Disney World, you don't dress for style, you dress for comfort.

I don't know, but I think it screams of laziness for anyone over 18yrs old

Haha, I definitely wouldn't wear pajama pants to a theme park, HOWEVER, if I'm at home, and have nothing to do that day, you'll catch me in pajama pants, not the frilly ones with ducks on them, but sweats or a pair or shorts, and I do go out in those, not because I'm lazy, but because I don't care what anyone else thinks!!

It's the 'trend' in the UK also :scared: I see plenty adult girls walking around our local village wearing their PJ's. It's the height of laziness! The furthest I'll go in mine outdoors is to our bin - and that's in our backyard!

Our local supermarket, Tesco, has recently brought in the ruling that no-one wearing PJ's will be allowed to shop in the store :goodvibes

Pj's don't bother me - I would much rather see someone in them than the 3 inches of butt crack I see every morning when I drop my son at preschool - there is a mom who always manages to be there at the same time and she wears her pants 2-3 sizes to small, and they are low cut ones - so she has a nice loaf top (much more than a muffin top) and about 3 inches of crack showing out of the top of her pants - before she even bends over to kiss her kids.

As for park wear - pj's don't bother me, socks and crocs don't bother me, I am too busy enjoying myself to worry about it :confused3

I agree with you - I personally wouldn't wear pajama pants to the park (because we go in the summer) but if it was chillier, I wouldn't have a problem wearing them. As far as anyone else goes, who cares, are you really going to spend your Disney vacation worrying about what people are wearing?

Well, I would much rather see a plaid flannel butt than 3 inches of crack and thong underwear.

But really, fuzzy slippers? At least slide into some flip flops! PLEASE?

I agree, it is indeed tacky- the exceptions IMO are college kids heading to an 8am class, or running down to walgreens real quick because your kid just spiked a fever and you need tylenol or something of the sort. Otherwise, take the time to take them off and put on a pair of jeans. However, I honestly believe people are putting the PJ pants ON to wear as pants... and that I do not understand...:confused3:confused:

However, like others are saying-- I MUCH prefer the PJ pants over butt cheeks and crack hanging out from too short/too small shorts!

Ehh,well while wearing PJs in public is not my cup of tea I personally do not care what others wear as long as it is not offensive to my kids. Such as profanity on the shirts or pants. That bugs me more but I let it go. Not worth the brain fart about it.

you have no choice but to let it go, you cannot do anything about it other than walk the other way & not look.. it isn't like you can go up to that person :confused3
I don't mean to sound rude but there isn't any other choice but to let it go when you think about it....:goodvibes

There are only a handful of times that it is "ok" for a grown person to wear pj's out of the house: Heading to Walmart/drug store late at night to get meds for a sick kid or spouse, heading to the ER or hospital late at night with a sick kid or spouse, heading over a friend's house to watch TV for the night (ie - you walk out of your door, into your car, into your friend's driveway, into your friend's house... nobody in "public" sees you LOL!!!)

I HATE seeing people in their pj's out and about. It is classless, trashy and lazy. Being poor is no excuse either because you can get a pair of sweatpants for the same cost of a pair of pj bottoms.

I go out in pj pants sometimes, not like to a bar, restaurant or anything like that. But I do go to walmart in them, sometimes to go to the grocery store. If I am comfy, I don't care, and if you (not you, just people in general) don't like it, don't look. I am not, however, classless, trashy or lazy, but if that's how others view me because I wear pajama pants out, then so be it.

Also, saying "being poor is no excuse,' leads me to believe that you've never been poor, or had to do without. I haven't either, but my grandmother was a kindergarten teacher and I spent more time there as a child than I did at home. Some families had and have 7 kids, so the younger kids get hand me downs, and sometimes sweatpants weren't an option and with seven kids, I'd imagine it'd be hard to go buy sweatpants for 3 of the kids if you had a limited income. I used to know some kids who were happy to get an orange for Christmas.

how very true that being poor has nothing to do with it.. some of the PJ's out there such as the Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister that some wear out cost more than some of the "pants or shorts" the one taking offence may be wearing....:goodvibes

*******

Hey Pirategirl007!

WOW! I just can't imagine wearing a bathing suit cover up as a dress? Too much! LOL! Yeah, well we have business casual here at work on Fridays. Men usually wear khaki's and a polo type shirt, women, in slacks and a blouse. During the week I usually wear a suit or slacks and a blouse.

I was hoping to find a skirt or dress with pockets that I'd feel comfortable putting, say, a KTTW card in, since sometimes skirts/dresses can be cooler and more comfy than shorts.
So there I was, at a department store not long ago, having spotted what appeared to be a dress that would work.:)
Eventually, I decided, based on the tag, that it must be a bathing suit cover up. So I left it, and did not even try it on, because there's no way I was going to wear a bathing suit cover up as a dress, even if nobody else knew!

In the end, it all comes down to marketing and trends, though. Seriously, a pant is a pant, and a dress is a dress, regardless of whether some fashion designer decided this one is pajamas and this one is "pants". :confused3
So I guess I would overlook others in the parks in their PJ's.

I have to confess though, DH bought me a nice Disney "t-shirt" that I honestly think was part of a pajama set, but I haven't the heart to stick to my guns on that, so I have occasionally worn it out on short shopping errands, hoping nobody knows it is really a PJ top. I mean, except for the light blue color and the print, the shirt is a t-shirt?

I'm the mother of high school and college age girls and I think the lastest fashion at both my daughters' schools solves the problem of wearing pjs in public. Eveyone wears Nike tempo track shorts all of the time. (If you don't know what they are, just look around any college campus and you'll probably see a lot of girls wearing them.) You don't have to be a runner or any type of athlete. They wear them to sleep in, go to class in and in winter they just throw leggings on under them. Technically they are wearing pj's in public but really, these things are so comfortable that they are actually just sleeping in their clothes. I expect we'll see a lot at WDW because they are great at drying immediately if they get wet or sweatty.

On the subject of things worse than pj's - My family still laughs about the 40plus year old woman we saw at WDW several years ago. About 2 inches of her butt cheeks were fully visible below the bottom of her shorts. Over the course of a week's stay we ran into her over and over. And every time she had a pair of these ridiculously short shorts on. She kept turning up at our resort, at the same parks we were visiting, in the same monorail car and even walked in the door with us for dinner at the Biergarten in Epcot where you sit with others. My girls were younger and I said a silent prayer because I think they would have collapsed into a giggle fit if we had been seated at the same table. Twelve years later and one mention of butt cheek woman brings instant laughter.

Why not just slip on a pair of sweats or elastic pants?

What are your thoughts on this??

My thought is that sweat pants aren't any better than a pair of PJ pants. I don't really see why one would be acceptable and the other not. Actually, sweats bother me more than PJ pants. Much more unattractive and just blech.

I think PJs only bother me if it actually appears that the person slept in them and then went straight from bed to outside - bypassing shower, toothbrushing, clean clothes, etc. If they are PJs just being worn as 'loungewear' or 'casual wear', I don't really feel that's any different than people out wearing sweats, etc.

Who cares?

If no one's business is hanging out and they don't have offensive language/graphics on them, I can't see why anyone would give it a second thought.

It's a theme park. It's sweaty, a little grubby, and you're climbing in and out of fiberglass logs all day. It's the last place in the world I expect anyone to be fashion conscious.

I find it particularly funny that people keep saying "at least put on some sweats or yoga pants!". Like those are any more attractive!

And really, what exactly is the difference between pajama pants and yoga pants?

I think people just like to feel superior where they can.

I don't own any PJ pants, let alone wear them in public.

But, if I did, and I liked them, why would I care what anyone else (okay, wife excluded) though about them while on vacation? There's something to be said for conforming to get ahead at work, and perhaps to add to the tranquility in your neighborhood /church /whatever.

But PJ pants are not obscene, not throwing off spores at other people, and the folks wearing them think they're comfy so more power to them! I'd say they're showing more personality than wearing Tommy, A&F, Hollister, etc. except that as someone mentioned there's a good chance those PJ pants are one of those brands.

I wear pjs around the house or to water the plants but I would never wear them out in public. Around here it's common at the grocery store to see adults in pjs and slippers in the middle of the day.

In the parks I just can't see how someone doesn't have time to get dressed before they go. On the other hand I would much rather see anyone in pants of any kind that cover than them this up the behind shorts and barely enough clothing or clothing that fits that I see sometimes.

Well now, what if MIL is wearing a dress as a bathing suit coverup? I was at Target yesterday and saw what I thought was a coverup, but it was called a Kimono Dress, and was being sold with the proper clothes. Ya never know!

Wal-Mart doesn't sell kimono's much less under the label Basic Editions sold in the swim wear section and labeled as such. And besides that my MIL is a LADY, ladies don't wear thier cover ups and try to pass them off as dresses.

Hey All!

I have seen this over and over again. Some girls and some women wearing pajama bottoms at the theme parks during cooler weather. I have also seen this in various department stores, Target, Walmart, grocery stores etc. Is this the norm? Is this even acceptable? Why not just slip on a pair of sweats or elastic pants?

What are your thoughts on this??

Thanks All!
Brunette

drives me crazy. I see it all over the place here in south jersey.
