Wearing Magic Band during Event?

Was just wondering what other runners' plans were regarding magic bands? Will you be wearing yours during the race(s)? Has anyone already worn one running, say at the W&D (or during training if you are really dedicated)?

I'm a little apprehensive about leaving it in my bag... but then again, not only do I get annoyed by strange things on my wrist while running, but my skin gets pretty irritated- especially in warmer temperatures. Would be interested to hear what you're thinking :goodvibes

Good luck this weekend and most of all, have fun!! :thumbsup2

I did my longest training run with it on. It felt fine so I'm comfy wearing it for the Half.

If I hadn't thought to practice with it I wouldn't wear it for the race though.

I definitely didn't think to practice with it... although it wouldn't have mattered even if I had since it would have been with a bunch of other layers.
Maybe I'll give it a shot on our "loosening up" jog Friday evening to see how it feels... Hm...

I will already have a zillion wrist bands on already, so I don't need to add another. I don't have a problem leaving anything in my bag, it is pretty well guarded in bag check.

I ran with mine for W&D without a problem. That being said I usually have a watch and bracelets on my left hand so the gps watch/magic band combo didn't bug me at all. It's a matter of preference and what you're used to.

I'm sure you're right.. I'm just good at worrying ;)

I run with a GPS watch as well, but just a smaller one. Maybe if I keep the band on the "back" side of the watch, it won't bother me.

Thanks for your replies !

I forgot about the GPS watch. Now I have the watch, the previous day's race band and race retreat wristband to wear.
Not planning on doing bag check for the 5 and 10k, so I am just going to carry the car keys in my pocket. I hope it's one of those key less one's on the rental car.

I wore my MagicBand for the W&D in November, mostly because I just forgot to take it off. It was comfortable enough that I wore it through the entire five-day stay: sleeping, showering, swimming, walking, running, eating - even our celebratory dinner at V&A because I literally forgot I had it on. If you can, I recommend stripping the grey outer band off if it will fit your wrist. That definitely cut down on the "bulk" of it. It was especially great to have it as a way to pay for drinks and snacks on the way home after the race. For WDW marathon weekend, I would wear it so I could access my park ticket to cut back through Epcot to BCV/BWV after the race. I always got nervous leaving my park ticket in my bag - what if it got lost or demagnetized by someone's nearby phone?

As for losing your MagicBand, good news. First, you cannot use it as a park ticket without your matching thumbprint, and you can't use it to purchase anything without your pin. So if you lose it, nobody else can use it.

Second, if you do lose it, you can log on to My Disney Experience right from your phone and disable it. So, if your evil identical twin with a matching thumbprint tries to use it, it will be turned "off" and then Disney will issue you a new one at Guest Services or your hotel.

Remember, there's no "info" ON the band. The band simply tells the Mickey head reader where to look on the computer. It's like having your phone number on your wrist - it tells the Mickey head reader what number to call to reach you in the master computer.

Happy Running!

I've been planning on wearing it - I even got red so it would go with my Mrs. I shirt. I figure I'm going to have so many things on my wrists already, the Magic Band is definitely going to be the most unobtrusive.

All good points- thanks! I'll probably end up wearing it to run, but now at least if I decide not to, I'll feel a bit better if something should happen

I wish I had thought to get one that matched my outfit- dang!! Oh well :rolleyes1

I always forget about my watch too, as I'm fairly new to running with one.
I think 5 and 10k are safe distances for pocket-key-carrying...any longer and the smallest of things can become annoyances. Hoping you get the keyless though :)

I'll probably snap my around my hydration belt rather than wear it. That being said, it hasn't come in yet so I haven't actually tried it on and determined whether I find it comfortable or not.

i wore mine during the TOT because that race ends in the park and i didnt want to carry a wallet ect.. for wine and dine i just left it in my car

Actually not unpacking mine. I am not enamored with the the technology or the fact that an amped up receiver can track my activities in the parks and on property. It's not out of the question to assume that the mouse has receivers in place or planned to be in place for just that purpose. Not being paranoid (too much) we carry RFID blocker cards in our wallets to prevent ID lifting from passes and credit cards containing RFID chips.

Secondly, we are coming into the parks on a Main Gate pass so I am not really sure what happens once you no longer have the band. Our experience during an August staycation was not bad until we returned home. Then all database records scrambled and to date have not been really correct.

Saying all this, I would trust the band to stay in place during the race. I had no issue during my August runs. It would be a great asset to have on wrist in the event you need to purchase brewski in the last mile.

DH and I both wore ours during the W&D without any problems. It was actually great, had a way to pay for snacks at the Post Race Party, didn't have to bring anything with me except the band, my run pack with inhaler and phone and my garmin on the other wrist.
I did not wear the grey portion, DH did, and no issues either way :):thumbsup2

I ran a super humid half wearing one last month. It was very comfortable. Barely even knew it was there!

I've ran at Disney (only 3-4 miles) in December and had no issues, I was planning on wearing mine for the Glass Slipper Challenge. I will try wearing one on my longer runs though- maybe sizing up a hole just so it moves more on my wrist.

Since I wear an armband phone holder, i will put my AP in that, have some cash and have family bring my MB to me after the race. Not that I find it uncomfortable. I will just have too many other things lol.. Dopey bands, garmin, my other support bands that I DONT take off.. ie: relay for life, donate life etc etc.. Those are reminders WHY I am doing this, my own way to support those that cant. Wont have room for the MB.. :D

:goodvibes

It sounds like the MB should be relatively comfortable to wear for the race, so I'll probably plan on just doing that- plus, it would be nice to know that I can purchase something along the way if needed. I'll practice with it Friday evening just to be sure. I doubt DBF will end up wearing his since he wears multiple other cause bands for charities on his wrists and won't want anything else (I have to wear those on my ankle since they are too big for my wrists). But at least if we stay together, we won't need to worry about it :goodvibes
