I'm a Disney nut. I love Disney, WDW, and everything Disney related. And I have a ton of Disney shirts.

I was looking for IOA info on the net and found and article about someones experience when they wore a Disney shirt at IOA. They said that the people working some of the rides teased him about it and joked about how they wouldn't let him on. He said it started to get annoying throughout the day.

If anyone here has ever worn a Disney shirt to IOA or Universal, has that ever happened to you? I was just curious. I learned that Disney shirts were a source of jokes, but that it doesn't look right to wear something matching where you are (A HP shirt, a Marvel shirt, or a Seuss or Jurassic park shirt.)

Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the tip off. I wasn't planning on wearing a Disney shirt.

I was planning on wearing a shirt for one of my favorite TV shows, Jonny Quest. I don't know if that really counts as matching where I am, because even though a H-B ride exsisted at Universal, JQ had one or two measley T-Shirts at the gift shop there. Nothing else. And the T-Shirt I'm wearing isn't one of them. If the show had been part of the ride, that'd be different. And anywho, I'm only going to IOA!

I have a funny thought, what if someone wore an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit shirt? He was owned by both Disney AND Universal. Let's see what happens then!

Nice thread!

I'm sure the joking was just meant to be funny...nothing serious. As you well know, Universal and Disney are competitors so I don't see anything wrong with a little good natured joking from the TMs at the rides. If you don't want to deal with the possibility of someone poking fun at you because you're wearing a Disney related shirt , I would suggest not wearing anything Disney...just to be on the safe side...you know? I've seen lots of people wearing Disney stuff at the parks.

I'm sure the jokes about Disney gear still fall far short of the annoyance received when wearing a Thing 1 & Thing 2 shirt, when everyone will ask you where Thing 3 is.

:)

i've worn crocs and disney tshirts at universal, and vice-a-versa @ disney. Received lots of attention and good-natured ribbing from TMs and the Universal characters we'd pose with for pics:).

It's all meant in fun. I even got teased by Daffy Duck at Six Flags once when I had a Mickey shirt on. I like Daffy Duck and bought and changed to a Daffy shirt later and even saw the Daffy character again who gave me a thumbs up. :)

My Niece and her boyfriend wore Universal sweatshirts to Disney a couple of Christmases ago - the Christmas with the record breaking cold. They invested in US sweatshirts and were the warmest clothes they had.

We got some light hearted joking from the cast members at Disney and one photopass photgrapher even had them fold their arms in front to hide the words while taking a picture. :rotfl:

It was all good fun and it didn't bother us. I'm sure it happens alot. You do open yourself up for some fun and attention at either park.

My son wore a Disney shirt once to Universal; he got ribbed, but all done in fun - it didn't worry him at all. I agree - wear what you like!!

Remember that lots of the employees work at both parks, so I'm sure it is done in jest. However, some people are really sensitive about Disney and I can see where it could become an issue to some people. If you are one of these people, I recommend not wearing a Disney shirt.

I guess it all depends on the person wearing the shirts personality.

I'm one that loves to talk and joke with strangers so I wouldn't think anything of it, and the "ribbing" exchange with others would be welcome. Although I can understand that some would not feel that way and it could get old really quickly, especially if you don't have the "never met a stranger" personality. IMO if you're one of the latter personality types don't plan on wearing an opposite park/company shirt kwim? Of course this is a vacation, and I know most of us try to pack the minimum so if it's "the only clean shirt" wear it and just try to smile and nod.;)

My daughter loves to wear shirts that match the park she's in (Marvel characters for Universal, ocean life for Sea World, etc) she gets tons of cute comments like "oh just wait until Spiderman sees your shirt" or my favorite, she was wearing a Cat-in-the-hat shirt at IOA and the CM's were loving it, kept asking her if he was her favorite character, etc.....of course she is 7 with pigtails (LOL) an adult more than likely wont get a huge smile and the offer of a sticker from the CM's.:cutie:

My friend wore a Minnie shirt when we went to IOA one day... I don't remember anyone saying anything!

Although I did overhear a TM tell a man wearing a Red Sox shirt that fans of that team weren't allowed to ride! So really, anything is fair game for teasing... but it's all in good fun! On the other hand, a TM might compliment your shirt. You never know :)

Whatever the CM's at Disney and Universal say to you it's all in good fun,if it annoys you don't wear Disney apparel at Universal or vice versa. The one shirt that I used to wear that got major attention from CM's at all parks was my Walley World T-shirt from National Lampoon's vacation. They still sell them online but none are authentic Warner Bros. licensed with the actual logo that I had,I stil have it but it's just old looking and worn so I don't wear it.I bought another one and it just didn't look as good and faded quickly,it appears the authentic ones are discontinued. One thing I saw at the Spider Man queue at IOA that amazed me was a Japanese couple with the girl holding a Disney ballon, you know the clear ones with another colored ballon inside in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head.Did she actually buy that at Disney the day before and decided it was a good idea to bring it to Universal.Getting that through the front gates must have been interesting.

We saw a LOT of thing 1,2,3,4 shirts on our last two trips to WDw. I say wear what makes you comfortable.. It's YOUR vacation!!;)

I have this happen to me a lot at my locak Six Flags. I wear Phillies shirts a lot and since the park is in an area where most of the employees are fans of NY teams, I get comments sometimes about it from them. Also when I wear a shirt from a non Six Flags park, like a Dorney Park shirt, I also get comments. Last year, I was told by the security guard at the metal detector he wasn't sure if he should let me into the park or not since Dorney Park is one of their competitors. I knew they were all joking so it didn't bother me.

I haven't worn Disney stuff to Universal, but last year for MNSSHP I decided to wear my Gryffindor robes. HUGE MISTAKE. Pretty much every cast member told me, "Wrong park Harry!" I know it was a joke, but this is why I never wear competitors shirts to the parks. Unless it's LEGOland, in which I LOVE to rub how better WDW and UO are then LEGOland :rotfl2:

My kids were both all upset on Saturday, as we started out with the intention of going to Universal for the day, and then en route decided to go to MK instead. Both girls were wearing shorts and Universal tank tops, and Meag was wearing a Universal hat as well. She kept covering it the letters with her hands, thinking she would get "in trouble", until a sweet gent CM at the train told her it was okay, and he was glad she liked BOTH parks. I don't own a Universal sweatshirt, so every time I have gone when it was chilly, I wear a Disney one, whether to Uni or Seaworld, etc. Very occassionally I have gotten a little ribbing about it, but usually nobody seems to care. And my kids LIKE wearing Disney shirts at Disney and Universal at Universal, Seaworld at Seaworld, etc...

We wore Disney shirts when we went to Universal last year and no one said anything to us about it. I wouldn't have minded if they did, but we never felt out of place for wearing our Disney shirts. The way I look at it, both parks know that tons of visitors visit both parks. If I'm in their park, I'm spending money so what do they care what kind of shirt I have on? :lmao:

Wear what you like and have fun :goodvibes

We saw lots of people wearing Disney shirts and sweatshirts last October at Universal. We didn't wear anything Disney related, but did get lots of kidding about using our Disney credit card!

I usually like wearing Disney t-shirts at Disney and Uni t-shirts at Uni. In March 2011, we were at Uni and i was wearing my Cat in hat t-shirt and people kept on saying "happy birthday" and i was so confused until i figured out that March 2 was Dr Seuss' birthday but I had NO idea! So even if you wear a shirt that fits the park, doesn't mean you really know what's going on!!!!! :lmao:
