We, the people of Disboards' budget board, would like to request our own Community sub-forum. We enjoy the advice and tidbits offered by our fellow budget board followers. We would like to continue to be able to interact easily with one another.

We would also like to welcome people from every corner of the Disboard to interact on our Budget community sub-forum. We are not requesting this to keep people out; instead, we would like to bring together budgeting tips into one complete forum.

This new forum will also allow the moderators of the Disboards a modicum of freedom. The moderators will no longer have to devote so much time to moving threads and can, instead, focus on violations of Disboards policies such as spam and hostility.

Thank you for considering our request! We all love the Disboards and would love to be able to contribute to its improvement.

How about a sub forum for new sub forum requests :rolleyes1

Well, maybe I didn't phrase it correctly, but what I would like to see is similar to the Camping forum here. They have a community sub-forum there.

I agree, a lot of things are getting moved as of late...and they would be lost on the regular CB..

There's quite a few Budget fans, that don't visit the community board. Which is where all their favorite topics are being sent to.

So there needs to be a Budget Board for saving at Disney, and a Budget Board community for savings at home. So members have a way to share their money saving tips and give advice for those looking to purchase something.

I agree. I am a longtime member who's account was hacked and disappeared. I will no longer come here if they keep messing up the board by moving all these posts.

I am new to this area but love reading the budget information. Dividing it up as you suggests would make it much harder to navigate. I honestly understand where the mods are coming from in that other thread about the number of threads being moved. People still would post in these sub forums about battery charging for cell phones, for recipe and party ideas, etc. Those really have no budget relation at all. I look for the budget advice in these threads and there is usually good stuff but I will admit I have notified mods on some of the threads cause it is difficult to navigate when there are threads you think are budget related only to find it is about charging batteries or suggestions for party food, etc. When you subdivide it will cause people not to know where to post. Mods seem to have their opinion on what they are doing. I have no prob hitting notify mods....people do need to stray from the norm and post things in the community area. I go there too and they are not mean or anything. General discussions or party ideas or battery charging questions don't belong here. Loved one a couple weeks ago about how to work a phone...and somehow person tried to link to budget. I for one will deviate and say I support what mods are doing moving threads and think cluttering with sub forums would ruin this budget area. People wouldn't know which of the 2-3 or however many subforums to post in!

There is no need for a sub-forum, just a constant moderator and clear cut answers as to what is and isn't budget.

What you are asking for already exists in a few other areas on the boards. I would seriously recommend you look over the Family boards. A lot of the same topics that are being moved could easily be posted and answered there without the "scare" factor that posters have of the community boards.

Agreed!

We just came home from Disney, and it will be at least 2 years before we are planning another trip. But I love interacting with the Budget Board people about my everyday budget too. I would love a community-minded Budget Board where I could feel free to discuss non-Disney budget items (although, all budget items relate to Disney for me - because I am always looking for the way to save for the next trip!).

This would be fine but not everyone here has a family and would think to look in that forum. We have an established core of great people here and we would love to have a forum that we can devote not only to off topic budget ideas, but things like battery charging and other tips. Hence, a community sub-forum.

I am not of the opinion that people in the community forum are nasty. I would like to see a community forum here in the budget forum, though. It would be easier to navigate if it were a smaller group of people.

As far as your example goes, there is a community board on the camping forums as well. Things that could be posted there could also be posted on the regular community board, but it is nicer for the users to have a smaller sub-forum of like minded individuals.

I actually think that they should just move the Budget Board, as-is, under the Just for Fun heading and leave it at that. If all the trip planning forums are for specific things and you can ask your budget questions there (e.g saving money on a room in the hotels forum), let the general budget discussion fall into Just for Fun. I think that would actually work better.

That is a great idea too!:thumbsup2

I agree we should have a community forum her like they do on the theme parks board or the camping board. While I do go to other boards the regular community board is not one of them.

I wish you luck with the request. Reminds me of a few years ago when people wanted a separate political board.

Missy, thank you! I do understand why a board would NOT want a political or religious sub-forum because both of these topics can be rather heated and require a lot of moderation.

I hope our request is not pushed aside as such, because asking for a recipe for an open house or an opinion on furniture, while both budget related, can be construed by some as being off-topic. These topics, however, and certainly helpful for many people and really will not generate a need for massive amounts of moderation and potential hostility.

(I am not saying that you would be overly heated when it comes to politics, Missy, I am just speaking as a person who has read through some political threads on different boards)
