In case anyone is interested, we were moved to main dining from the waitlist this week. The last time we cruised, we didn't get moved until two weeks out, so the early move surprised me. I suspect it is because many more people want late dining on the Europe cruises.
Because we had already asked for a non-shared table, when we asked for early dining we were asked if the single table or early dining was a bigger priority. We said early dining, but I am pretty confident we will still get the single table too. If not, it isn't that big of a deal to us.
We booked about a month ago and immediately put ourselves on the waiting list. This time, we did it via Costco instead of the chat feature on Disney's website (I have no idea of that matters). We did not call often or try the "squeaky wheel" technique that others have mentioned here. I don't think that actually makes any difference for the dining waitlist. I tried it once before and was consistently told to just let the waitlist process work and didn't see any change close in time to any of my attempts.
It does not appear that Disney sends an email notification, so you must check your reservation on the website.
