We Want to Go to DISNEY, not the Beach! Updated ADRs 5/1

Yes it's General Motors, well kinda.

The official title of the place is GMHC (General Motors Holdings Corp.). The plant here doesn't actually make cars/trucks. They make a lot of the electronic parts that go in them (radios/hybrid vehicle charging thingies/etc). To have a car built, we'd have to go over to Marion or Ft. Wayne.

Either way, it would be a substantial pay increase from what I'm making now. AND the last time they brought in temps, they kept them, and that was 5 years ago.

They are only hiring 100 people, so I've got to bring my A game if/when they call.

Thanks for the well wishes, and thanks for buying GM! (at least you helped keep DH on the job... and my FIL, and BIL, and a few of my very closest friends! :teeth:)

Well, lots of Pixie Dust and prayers to you!

My you are up early today, but either way...

LOL, I'm up that early every morning. I have to leave the house at 7am to be at work on time. But, thanks! I am very excited now!

June 2010 was our first ever family trip with no other family or friends. Although I enjoyed being around others in Disney, I prefer to not have to plan around other people's schedules, too. This trip was wonderful--calm, relaxing, and absolutely the best so far.

We started off with staying offsite the night before and made it on time to rope drop at MK.

We lucked out with getting our room request--building 14 in Alligator Bayou.

LOVE the photos! Been showing them to DS and he's going crazy for SWW! Those are some great shots of POR too! I think DH and I need to stay there if weever get an adults-only trip down there. I'll hafta talk him out of CSR though.

Your Star Wars weekend pictures are so cool. Makes me really want to go. We never seem to be able to though, but this makes me really want to try. :thumbsup2

Nice pictures!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Tell me again about your camera and lens... and are you taking a tripod with for your night shots??

I love POR. It is a great resort for an adults only trip. I think I'd go with POR over CSR, because CSR is a conference resort, making it, to me, more businesslike and POR more resort like. Along with the boat transportation to Downtown Disney and the multiple quiet pools, it makes a great place to stay!

Thanks, Joanie! I have a Nikon D60 with a 18-200mm Nikkor VII lens. I also have the kit lens. I haven't really gotten more equipment. I need a flash, because the camera flash does not work well with any lenses other than the 18-55mm. It tends to cause shadows in the bottom--I'm sure because of the direction of the flash.

I do use a tripod with the camera for the night shots. I'm still deciding on my best shutter speed and apeture for those fireworks photos.

I'm sure you're probably aware of a lot of this info, but perhaps you can find something interesting from this report I worked up about shooting fireworks with a Nikon D60. This was for my last trip and I took a lot of hints from the folks at the Dis Photography boards.

My Master Plan for shooting Fireworks....
Ok, so here goes the check list for shooting Fireworks at Disney.

Notice that I got all this info from all of you who contributed tips and tricks to the photography board over the ages. THANKS!!!!!!! I had been reading through the boards and copy/pasting relevant quotes so that I could get a better idea of just how to go about this.

This is a checklist so that I can be sure to set my Nikon D60 correctly in manual mode, in the dark, in a hurry, with people in the way, asking me questions like "Are you a Photopass Photographer?".

Shooting FIREWORKS (for Nikon D60)
Check to see that no obstructions are in your way; Check the wind (smoke) One thing to take into consideration is wind direction. Some nights that there is a steady breeze it could be smart to pick a totally unconventional spot maybe in frontier land if it keeps the smoke away.

Set tripod and LOCK all adjusters **Watch your horizon, use hot shoe bubble level.

DO NOT USE noise reduction (slows shutter interval due to in camera image processing.)

Shoot a totally black frame (eg., one with your lens cap on) for Photoshop Post processing.
For a good exposure on the foreground object take a photo of it without any fireworks.
Set Camera to Manual Mode, Meter on Matrix and NOT SPOT!
SET your lowest ISO,
Shoot on the wide side (no zoom) and crop post production. Fireworks are shot off on both sides of the castle as well as in the back.

Set your focus: Make sure Auto focus area mode is set to closest subject (AF- area mode = solid black square) First auto focus on castle. Check using range finder . Set the FOCUS to MANUAL (magnify glass AF-A change to MF) and leave it there. Turn off Autofocus on lens itself, Nikon says turn VR OFF on a tripod, but leave it ON on a monopod.

Use a Remote, Set camera to Bottom remote setting. Push and hold to open shutter, Push again to close shutter. Use bulb/'time' setting, use tripod.

Set Aperture using Aperture button by on/off switch. Rotate dial to change Aperture. Apertures of f/8 to f/16 are typically the best if shooting ISO 100. One thing to remember is that as the aperture goes up, the castle will be darker in the same shutter-length photo The advantage is that the fireworks trails aren't as blown out.

Recheck that shutter is set to “TIME” aka bulb. When rotating aperture dial sometimes the shutter gets changed.

use the viewfinder cover

REMEMBER: overly long exposures blow out your highlights and the fireworks won't be crisp. If using bulb mode, open the shutter before the burst to get some light on the subject (take a meter reading off Cindy's castle for example to find out how long to keep it open for good light on it) and then keep the shutter open long enough for one burst. If you want to have multiple bursts, the best way to do it is to use black nonreflective cloth or board to temporarily place over lens. Open the shutter and then cover it between bursts with the cover. If using manual mode, experiment with exposures of 1 to 4 seconds.

Go for the fireworks in the beginning of the show - toward the end, you will mostly get smoke. Keep Shooting anyway and ditch the smoky ones in post production.

If there are many fireworks going off at once or bright white fireworks, you take a shorter picture... and if it's a quieter moment, you can hold the shutter open longer.

PhotoShop trick for post processing to reduce noise if you choose a higher ISO, Shoot a totally black frame (eg., one with your lens cap on). In PS, drag the black frame over your background image of the fireworks to create a new layer. Set the mode to "difference" and you will see a big reduction in the noise.

Another trick for a good exposure on the foreground object is to take a photo of it without any fireworks. Then, you can blend in that good exposure with your fireworks exposure if you foreground subject is too dark in the fireworks shot.

WHEN FINISHED SHOOTING REVERSE CHECK LIST AND RETURN CAMERA
TO DAYLIGHT SETTINGS.

END Instructions
Thanks again for all of your info and inspiration.

wow this is a very impressive set of directions for fireworks shots. i will have to remember to bring our mini tripod for our PlaySport...

I never thought to practice packing the car but great idea!! I have had mini- anxiety attacks thinking about what gas prices could do to my Disney "fun" budget!! Especially when they speculate $5 a gallon by Memorial Day! :scared1:

Loved the June 2010 pictures!! And the POR pictures made me think "35 more days and I will be there!!!!!!" :goodvibes We just love POR!

We are excited about the truck. What we really need now is plenty of things for the kids to do on the ride to keep them from fighting, lol.

I am glad you enjoyed my pictures. I really like taking them--they end up being my major Disney souvie every year. The tripod is the major piece of equipment you need with fireworks shots. The shutter has to move so slowly to capture the light that if you don't use a tripod, the pictures become blurry because there's no way you can stand still enough for the shutter to do what it needs to do.

POR is awesome!

I don't even want to think of $5/gallon gas for our trip. It'll be a budget buster, for sure!

You can always play my favorite kid game called "Statue"! It's a game where all the kids have to remain PERFECTLY STILL, without TALKING and the first one to move gets left at the rest stop.

For some reason none of the kids likes to play this much but I just LOVE it!

I love shopping, although the past trip, I just didn't get around to very much of it. This coming trip, however, I had to buy some new clothes. After all, you don't lose 30 pounds and then not have to change your wardrobe a bit!

The first thing we needed, though, was not clothes--it was a new suitcase.

I have had my eye on these at JC Penney's for a while now:

IMG_0002.jpg

IMG_0003.jpg

Then, I got a few clothes:

This was at Old Navy:

IMG_0004.jpg

As well as this tank top:

IMG_0009.jpg

And these:

IMG_0010.jpg

And this--and of course, the cat, Bailey, had to join in and help out:

IMG_0007.jpg

IMG_0008.jpg

I also took a trip to the Disney store for these:

IMG_0021.jpg

I went to WalMart back in Feb. They had put some of their last year's shorts on sale and I picked up some:

IMG_0019.jpg

IMG_0017.jpg

Then, I also got some shirts for the kids:

Stinky Loves Phineas and Ferb

Boo's Shirt

And Sweetie gets two of them:

At some time with the photography, Bailey took out an all out war on us--she is definitely unhappy with all of this Disney planning and not taking her:

I also pulled out the purse I bought last year for the parks, as well as the backpack I got this year:

Of course, we aren't finished with my shopping trips, but I will say this: I love shopping for Disney! :thumbsup2
