We Smelled It...It Had to be Eaten, Part II ... Ding, Dong, Done!!!

Great Citrico's review! I'm hoping to try it on our next trip now. Thanks to your reviews......we've increased our "must try" list of restaurants by double!!:thumbsup2

Oh crap... you know how hard it's gonna be to get into Citricos now???

They're gonna get tired of hearing "But Bendy told me I have to go there!!!" & "Where's MY chocolate Mickey???"

Brenda, thanks for another great review. We try to hit Citricos once a year (and I'm a marrow-man).

I know the DP has wrecked some of the restaurants but we actually used the Deluxe Plan to advantage last December for a few days. If you are doing a split stay sometime I recommend doing the Deluxe for a couple of days if your schedule permits. We were staying at WLV over the weekend and then moved to the BWV - if you did two days on the DDP that costs $140PP - take your six credits and use them for three signature dinners (ie. check in Fri, out on Sunday - plan is good till midnight of check-out day) and book signatures for Fri-Sat-Sun night. Comes out to about $47 a dinner (plus the usual million dollars in booze surcharges :rotfl2:). We ordered the veal shank and the rib eye last Dec (the most expensive items on the menu) - I probably would not order these using TIW because I'm getting cheap in my old age.

What a great dining review of Citricos Brenda!!!:thumbsup2 The food looked so appetizing and that Mickey dessert was absolutely beautiful!;) My DH and I first tried Citricos for our 20th Wedding Anniversary trip and we also had a perfect evening. The food was delicious and the waitstaff was very attentive. My DH presented me with a beautiful diamond necklace and friends of ours had a delivery of the most gorgeous flowers in a blue Mickey etched vase delivered to our table! They also brought out an "on the house" anniversary dessert that was awesome. It's one of our favorite memories at WDW. I'm so sad this is your last dining review but I will certainly be looking for the October trip reviews. Thanks again for sharing your foodie experiences with us. You're the best.:thumbsup2

Ok... I made ressies for Citricos... not sure if I'm even going on the trip yet... but I have ADR's... :rotfl2:

Egad. You're channeling Guy Fieri. ;)

But I hope I have better hair. :lmao:

I have a mission to have a "new to me" restaurant to try on every trip, so I'm glad Disney started opening new places I haven't tried yet in recent years.

I speak cow as a second language, too.

We're the same way ... we like to have some new restaurant experiences to mix in with the old standbys.

I think it's a Midwest requirement to be fluent in bovine.

Uh oh...this doesn't bode well. I think your funky karma is acting up again.

The curse of Grimace ...

My favorite part is to gawk at the flowery people and get V&A envy. :)

I enjoyed that, too. And had a bit of envy as well.

You know it's bad when even your confirmation number doesn't help them find the order. I don't know why they have such a hard time with these things.

Oh good, the cloud has the silver lining! Otherwise I'd picture you as the kid with the black cloud following him around.

This is the first time we've ever had something like this happen with a special order. Very odd ... and a little disheartening, too. Thank goodness the manager was such a sweetheart - she saved the day!

Wow, very nice, hair down and everything. The highlights in your hair look terrific. :thumbsup2

Thank you. I usually leave it up when we're in Florida because the humidity gives me limp noodle hair. It's easy and quick to clip it back but every now and then I like to remind myself that I actually do have hair. :rotfl:

You're lucky you didn't get the Barb (aka inkkognito) dining experience at Citrico's. It was a 3-ring circus when she went. Truly scary and hilarious. She posted about it in her blog. Kids literally going wild, rolling around on the floor, absentee parents who insisted on dining in a separate area.

Oh, I remember reading all about her experience and believe me, it was in the back of my head while we were waiting for a table.

I'd have gone for the Pinot Noir, but I might have gotten sangria if I noticed it on the menu.

You and Jay need to compare wine notes. :thumbsup2

Wow, that's one beautiful plate of colorful stuff! That looks like something I'd expect from Cat Cora's restaurant that is taking over Spoodles, since it has that Greek vibe to it. It was the lemon and feta that made me think that.

It was delicious ... I will definitely order it again if we eat there this fall.

I did not order this when I went to Citrico's, but it's cool to see it here. I would have not pictured it as such, chilled. I would have thought "crab cake". Looks good enough that I'd keep it in mind for another trip.

Once we got past the chilled crab vs. warm crab it was very good - rich, too.

LOL! Nice commercial interruption. I was picturing the Adventurers Club Radio Broadcast version, "Jump up for Jinkies! We love 'em!"

Is there anything Bugs Bunny can't do? I stole that jingle from one of his adventures.

I wouldn't have put cioppino as an appetizer. I've ordered it (and it's French cousin, bouillabaisse) as full meals. As an appetizer it looks sad and lonely.

Jay liked it, so I guess in this instance that was all that mattered. I don't know that he'd order it again, though.

Wow. Just wow. That's food porn at its finest. I am drooling it looks that good. I had the best polenta at Citrico's a few years ago, back when Food and Wine actually had these things called Signature Dinners. It was so rich and creamy, I still remember how good it was. This dish brought it all back for me, along with regrets about the Dining Borg.

Oh man. I would want the veal shank, too. However, if I could get the veal shank with your polenta, that would be the best of both worlds. :cloud9:

Thank you very much! This polenta was da bomb ... I wish I was eating it right now (I really do). And I bet you could ask for the shank and the polenta ... something tells me that they'd be happy to accomodate that kind of request.

Wow, that does make up for the snafu! It's good to see that chocolate mold is still being put to good use. Here's a photo I took of being the 125th guest at Chef's Mickey's during the WDW 25th anniversary celebration. This photo was taken in November of 1996. And we had milk chocolate and mini M&Ms:

mickstatue.jpg

See? Same pose. I really thought your cookie assortment was truly adorable with the white chocolate Mickey.

I love that picture of your Mickey ... it's too cute! And I really liked the cookie assortment we received ... very tasty and very clever.

I have a mind then went straight to the gutter after reading the last sentence. :rolleyes1

Well, it is food porn ... :rolleyes1

That would not be Disney. They do try (at least the places owned by Disney do) to make things right. I do have to give props to them for that.

I agree. Kudos to Citricos' management team that night!

Cookie bathtub? Complete with suds! :rotfl2:

I thought it was funny, too.

I'm glad you had a great time there, and it's a good thing you didn't do the Jiko dinner. We got out of there at 11pm, so you'd have been very tired getting up at the "butt crack of stupid".

If we'd had one last day at the resort we would have been all over that Jiko dinner. I keep hoping that they'll offer an extra one this fall while we're there but I'm not holding my breath.

Brenda - Thanks for the great reviews. You are so clever in your writing and with that, it makes it extremely entertaining to read. Plus your photos are wonderful too!

Thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to let me know you've enjoyed our gluttony. And thanks for the kind compliments ... you can't see me but I'm blushing.

Glad your birthday dessert wasn't a bust. I would love one of those white chocolate Mickey's. Right now in fact.

You should see if you can order one for yourself on your next trip to WDW ... a lot of the Deluxe resorts have them so it's just a matter of asking and hopefully finding a CM who knows what he / she is doing.

Have a great Spring/Summer and looking forward to your next review, whenever you get to the world again! (October, right? Something to look forward too!)

Happy Spring and Summer to you, too! We are headed back to the world this October for one last feeding frenzy ... we hope to go out with style!

Great review of Citrico's it is one of the most forgotten restaurants on the Disboards -i've only read a handful of reviews! so it is nice to see another good one.

they did a good job fixing the birthday error and that white chocolate mickey is too cute!

Thanks for reading! I think you're right ... there don't seem to be as many reviews of Citricos as there are of some of the other signatures, but it does appear to be changing a bit. I love my Mickey statue ... his hand has fallen off and Jay keeps telling me that we need to dispose of him but I just can't do it.

Great reviews and pix!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

You are so cute with your birthday surprise. That chocolate Mickey statue is awesome! And cappuccino with mystery booze sounds perfect! To think I've enjoyed it with just coffee! :rotfl:

Citrico's sounds like a must try!

Thanks - you're very kind.

Cappuccino is good but with mystery boozes it's even better. We think it was amaretto and kahlua and maybe grand marnier but there's no way to know for sure but to go back and order another one this October!

Sorry you didn't enjoy the conversations w/ Robert Irvine. Your review, however, was pretty hilarious.

WPE also looks fantastic. Isn't it funny communicating in DIS acronyms to non-DIS'ers? We have our own language!

I'm glad you like the Irvine review ... I tried to make it funny so I'm glad to know that worked. And WPE was A-OK ... I'd definitely suggest giving it a try if you haven't already.

Of all the times I've stayed at GF, I've never been in Citrico's! It looks really nice. I'm glad you enjoyed your meal and the waitress was able to help you out when your order was messed up. If they can accommodate a vegetarian (which I'm sure they can) I will definitely be trying it soon!

Oh I'm sure Citricos can accomodate your dietary needs ... and I hope you get a chance to dine there because it was really amazing and delicious. Thanks for reading!

Awesome reviews as always Brenda! Wish we were going to be there at the same time as you guys in October.

Cathy

Hi Cathy! Thanks so much for reading and posting. I wish we were going to be at WDW at the same time, too.

Great Review as always Brenda! Jason and I are a big fan of Citricos and the Veal.. or Meat Straw of Happiness as we say! ;)

Hi Chelsi - thanks for taking the time to read this last installment! Meat Straw of Happiness ... :rotfl2: ... that's awesome!

Hi Brenda!

Fantastic dining review, as always. It's always a little sad when they end, but I will admit that I go back and read your past reviews over again to get my fix! :surfweb:

We are heading to Citricos at the end of April for the first time and your review has made me even more excited! :goodvibes

Can't wait for the October 09 report - hope you have a wonderful time!

Hey there, PPZ! Thanks for reading ... I haven't seen you for a while. I'm always a little sad when they're finished, too. And I actually did finish pretty early this time (by my standards).

I hope you enjoy Citricos later this month - be sure to let us know how everything goes! And have a lovely lovely trip!

Great Citrico's review! I'm hoping to try it on our next trip now. Thanks to your reviews......we've increased our "must try" list of restaurants by double!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for reading and posting! I hope you have a great trip and if Citricos is on your list I hope your meal there is as good as ours was. Be sure to let the rest of us know how everything was once you get home!

Oh crap... you know how hard it's gonna be to get into Citricos now???

They're gonna get tired of hearing "But Bendy told me I have to go there!!!" & "Where's MY chocolate Mickey???"

If they hear too much of that at Citricos they can mail us a finders fee ... :rolleyes1

Great report keep the pictures coming Thank you

Thanks for reading!

Brenda, thanks for another great review. We try to hit Citricos once a year (and I'm a marrow-man).

Thank you very much! Citricos was wonderful ... too bad it took us so long to figure out what we've been missing on these last trips.

I know the DP has wrecked some of the restaurants but we actually used the Deluxe Plan to advantage last December for a few days. If you are doing a split stay sometime I recommend doing the Deluxe for a couple of days if your schedule permits. We ordered the veal shank and the rib eye last Dec (the most expensive items on the menu) - I probably would not order these using TIW because I'm getting cheap in my old age.

That's a great idea about the deluxe plan. Jay and I actually discussed getting it for the trip we've got planned for this fall, but we know that we'd still spend a lot on top of that dollar amount and so opted for the TIW card one last time (after I swore we wouldn't do it ... poor Jay ... I really am a fickle mushhead ...).

Are you guys going to be at WDW this October? :goodvibes

What a great dining review of Citricos Brenda!!!:thumbsup2 The food looked so appetizing and that Mickey dessert was absolutely beautiful!;) My DH and I first tried Citricos for our 20th Wedding Anniversary trip and we also had a perfect evening. Hi Linda! Thanks so much for reading and for sharing your Citricos evening. I wonder if I can convince Jay that I'd be perfectly happy eating Casey's for dinner on my 40th birthday if a new diamond necklace mysteriously fell into my french fries?

What a lovely lovely experience it sounds like you had ... I'm all ooooooh and ahhhhhhh right now and Jay looks worried because he knows that means I've come across something that I want to do / eat / order / drink ... etc.

Thanks for the kind words ... look for us in late October!

Ok... I made ressies for Citricos... not sure if I'm even going on the trip yet... but I have ADR's... :rotfl2:

Hey, your priorities are right ... the food is the most important part of the trip!

I just wanted to thank everyone once more for reading, posting, laughing, and lurking with us as we relived another WDW food and booze trip. Thanks for letting us share our experiences ... I do hope throughout all the goofiness (it's genetic ... I can't help it) that you may have found something that might be of use to you on an upcoming trip.

I wish you all good health, tasty food, and fine beverages until the next batch of reviews get cooking this fall. We have one last WDW trip planned this October and then we're taking a break from the Mousetrap for a bit.

If anyone would like to chat it up in the meantime, please feel free to check out our community thread where there are tons of recipes and non-Disney food porn posted for your enjoyment. All are welcome! :goodvibes
