Love the new plans! :thumbsup2 Are you going to the GF Tea? I am really thinking about that for our next trip.

Can't wait for the reviews!!

And, we share the same bday! We'll be there Oct 15-20...can't you stay another day?? So sad to leave on your bday!

:bday:

Hi Brenda! I have lurked for your last several reports and thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures in dining (and drinking), and have always been slightly (okay, extremely) jealous that I haven't gotten to check out the Food and Wine Festival. My husband and I just planned a last-minute trip to disney for 10/5-10/9, so our trip is going to overlap with yours. We have ADRs at Raglan Road the same night as you do, but earlier, as we have kiddies to tend to. This may sound dorky, but it's neat to know that when I read your next report I will be thinking, I was there then too! Anyway, I'm looking forward to your report and I hope you have a great trip!

Hi there lurker-no-more! :goodvibes

I'm so excited that you're finally going to make it to the F&W Fest - I hope you have a terrific time! And if you happen to see us around please say hello ... we really are harmless. ;) Thanks for reading and enjoy your trip!

How did I not notice that you had a new trip report? Now I need to catch up!

Would you expect anything less from a food-lovin' dork like me?

I just added afternoon tea this past weekend ... it was a last minute decision. We've done it before and really enjoy it. Your DDs would love it - if you get a chance definitely give it a try; I really think you'd all enjoy the experience. :goodvibes

Happy birthday to you, fellow 10/17-er! I wish we could stay another day but it's not to be; I'll make up for it next year! :thumbsup2

Hope you have a great trip and a great birthday ... be sure to say hello if you see us wandering around the World! :goodvibes

Somewhere this afternoon we will stop by Aloha Isle. We've never tried the infamous Dole Whip. For one thing, I don't like pineapple and for another thing, the line is always so long that we end up opting for a Mickey Bar instead. But it seems like the hubba and I should try this supposed delicacy and then offer our unwanted opinions on it, so Jay will try the traditional Dole Whip and I'll get a rootbeer float and all will be right with the world.

Might I suggest that you make sure to try the vanilla/pineapple twist. I think it's about 10X better than the pineapple on its own. Just my $0.02 :)

Later in the evening we have an 8PM reservation for dinner at Kona Cafe. We have never had anything but breakfast at Kona but so many of our DIS-friends swear by dinner here that we decided to take the plunge and try a new meal. If it stinks we'll blame you all, but I suspect a few lapu lapus will make us forget why we even chose it in the first place. :rotfl2:

Another unsolicited suggestion...stay away from the tuna oscar with fried green tomatoes. The spice mix on the tuna just seemed to cover up the flavor of the fish. BUT, the tempura crab WAS tasty.

October 16th - Our last F&W special event takes places today at Epcot ... Kitchen Conversations with Robert Irvine. The description: Visit with an acclaimed culinary personality and discover how he or she enjoys life in-and-outside the kitchen. A cooking demonstration, tasting, and an autographed copy of the presenter's book are included in this delightful (really? I'll hold you to that) event.

Be sure to ask him why he blatently lied on his resume for me. :rotfl:

Another suggestion...if you get a chance, give the churros at the Mexico CS spot a try. I love 'em. I'm not 100% sure if it's just 'cause of fond memories of eating them with my family when I was a kid, but if you've got fried dough with cinnamon and sugar can you really go wrong?

As for Dole Whip ... you're saying Jay should try a vanilla / pineapple swirl - is that the same thing as the float?

Point well taken on the tuna oscar ... I don't think it was on either of our radars but I'll tuck your warning into the back of my brain.

We've never had churros ... we can't get past that Simpsons episode where Homer sneaks into WDW and then has to pay $12 for a churro. :rotfl2:

D'oh!!!!

The float is ice cream with pineapple juice. The ice cream can be vanilla, pineapple or twist. I'd go with the float with twist ice cream!

Of late, I have noticed an interesting new trend on the restaurant boards ...

In the spirit of bandwagon jumpery and tongue-in-cheek fun pokery I would like to lay down the "rules" for this thread. Failure to abide by these rules will result in a visit from Jasper and his trusty paddle:

2) Thinking that your opinion or comment isn't welcome here ... that's a paddling.
3) Not licking your monitor when a particularly tasty piece of food porn is posted ... that's a paddling.
4) Staring in slack-jawed amazement at my upper arm flab ... that's a paddling.
5) Paddling this food canoe without a healthy sense of humor ... oh, you'd better believe that's a paddling!

I think one of you should get the pomegranate glazed pork chop at Kona. Just sayin'. Stay away from the macadamia nut butter served with the best pre-dinner bread offering, if that offends the "parasitic twin". ;) I think the teriyaki steak is another good option. But if that gawd-awful Ono whitefish is still on that menu, run, run away! Flee!

As for churros, there are carts around the parks that serve churros. I wouldn't go to the Mexico cantina for them. Just be careful if you get the one from Frontierland. Or at least keep close guard on it. I wouldn't want a flying rat (aka seagull) to rip it out of your hands. :scared1: Just sayin'. :rolleyes1 (Oh, I realized that the F&W kiosk will have churros with chocolate sauce.)

Got it! That sounds like something Jay will really like ... me, not so much; I think I'll stick with the root beer float. I loves me a root beer float! :thumbsup2

Well, I suppose that's one way to look at it. Honestly, I've been so amused lately by reviews stating that people who don't like certain foods shouldn't read, or people who have different opinions shouldn't post, blah blah blah, that I just thought it would be a hoot to poke some fun with one of our favorite Simpsons characters.

I enjoy the give and take of conversation and opinion on these threads and I welcome and encourage it as much as I can (and as much as the mods will let me before they get disgusted with the thread length).

So all are welcome ... I'm a first amendment kind of gal. :thumbsup2

Your mom had the pork chop, didn't she? I seem to remember that from your review last year. I'm pretty sure that I'm opting for the scallops and shrimp ... the real question is what Jay will order. And I appreciate the heads up on the "nutter." I'll just eat the bread without it ... no need to antagonize the parasitic twin while on vacation. ;)

I gotta be honest ... the churro just doesn't all that appealing. BUT ... I am willing to give it a try when we visit Spain's booth because everything is better with chocolate sauce! :lmao:

I LOVE IT!!!

Thank GOD I have a sense of humor or my butt would be blue!!!

I would like to respectfully ask that you have a drink for me at WDW. I am so so so far away from it, and I could use a beverage. In turn, next time I am at Disneyland Paris (probably while you're at WDW actually) I'll drink a 1664 for you. :thumbsup2

Thank you - that's the response I was hoping for! :thumbsup2

At least you'd match the decor at Blue Zoo.

Briarmom! Where oh where have you been? I've not seen an update on your TR in something like three years ... I hope you haven't given it up because it was really good.

As for the drink ... anything in particular you'd like me to imbibe in a virtual toast to you or can I just use my own discretion? And the krohn ... yummo! You're too kind! :thumbsup2

That's why I like your food reviews. You are not afraid to criticize, but you keep it funny. I'm so glad you will be reviewing another food and wine festival.

Ugh, the TR. I lost my hard drive on my laptop and the new one doesn't have a program for 'word' or whatever it is on Mac. Nor does it have iPhoto.:headache:

I had a lot of notes and 'stories' typed out and saved on my old hard drive....there's no way I can remember what happened enough to do a TR without all those notes. I had all of our food on there....:headache:

Go ahead and choose a drink for me. I'm not picky about alcohol. ;)
