Of course it was during the temporary ruler of the realm ceremony. The cool part is, we got his autograph and my DH got picked to be the Royal Bodyguard. It was so neat and hilarious at the same time! :rotfl: It was a great way to pull my 'Disney is all fake' husband into the magic of the world. He even wants to go back!!! I'll post pics when I get a chance!

Sounds great! Which park? I would love to see Merlin

Merlin's "Sword in the Stone/Ruler for a Day" is a very entertaining (funny!) short (about 10 minutes) "show" with audience participation.
(The audience STANDS to see it, but Merlin has a microphone, so he can be heard quite well).

Personally, I find Merlin MUCH more fun than and memorable than the over-hyped "Cinderellabration" at the castle.

Merlin's show can be found at MK, directly in front of the King Arthur Carousel in Fantasyland.

Look at the "times guide" when you arrive at MK.
It takes place several times a day during "busy times", every-other-day sometimes during "off-peak" weeks (usually the first show is not until after 11am, as I recall).

Be sure and stand up-close, right behind the "magic rope". ;)

To enjoy the show, you must BELEIVE...
But for now, I must BE LEAVING! :rotfl:

Usually they are 11:15 am, 12:15, 1:15, 2:15, 4 pm, and 5 pm. But not everyday. When I was there 3 days ago it was on Tues-Thurs.

I guess we timed it perfect, because we got to see him right after my DD got off of Cinderella's Carousel on Thursday afternoon. We happened to be right in the front! :wizard:

Merlin is a really nice guy. When I was there January 1-5, I got to meet him for a photo and autograph. Also, on my last day in the MK (also my last day in Disney) I went to the 4 pm Sword in the Stone show. When I told Merlin that it was my last day there, he gave me one of the medallions so I was an hoorary ruler of the realm and so that "I could remember him by" :wizard: (Merlin and I are friends). As if I could forget him anytime soon. It is hanging in my room.

Speaking of the sword in the stone. Well we pulled and pushed and basically herniated ourselves! :rotfl2: My family gave up and siad there is no way the sword comes out!

How often does someone pull the sword? Is it always a child? Does the sword just come out and then a big deal is made of ot or is a planned cermony and the person picked pulls the sword for sure? :confused3

Yes it is always a child. There is a "ceremony" where Merlin picks a child to pull the sword out of the stone- half way, of course. But, Merlin does have an adult (who becomes the bodyguard) "attempt" to remove the sword- with no luck. There are usually 6 shows a day, usually about 3-4 days a week.

DD was picked when we went in MAy to pull the Sword (she is 4) of course they had an adult try first and Emma pulled on it once then Merlin said some magic words Emma pulled and the sword came up. Everybody was clapping Emma got scared or something and started crying they put a crown and robe on her and told her she was the Queen of Magic Kingdom and they paraded her around the small sword area then time was up we asked her why she started crying - her response " I don't want to be the Queen I want to be a Princess!" She got her picture taken, a medal and certificate! We loved it - I don't know how they pick but we were the first people waiting fro the ceremony(?) and Emma was not yelling PICK ME PICK ME and waving just standing quietly watching -don't know if any of that matters or if she was just lucky!

This sounds pretty cool, might have to check it out next trip. :earsboy:

I randomly caught Merlin while waiting for someone in Fantasyland on our last trip. It's definitely Disney magic. So much fun!
