We Saw a Family of Otters!!!

We took the big boat from the Fort to the MK on Saturday (9/22) and saw a mommy & two baby otters swimming off the shore of the old Discovery Island!! How precious!! In all the years I've been going to the Fort, I've never seen otters!!!

Also, on 9/15 & 9/22, as we were biking in from the day guest parking lot in the early afternoon, deer ran in front of us as we were biking between the Outpost and the CM turn. I've never seen deer that close to the bus stop! We always see them on the path between FW & WL, but never that close to the check-in & horse stable!!! Two ran basically along side of us on 9/15, and one did the same yesterday! They are so not afraid of people!

Who would have thought that just telling us you saw a cute family of otters could have brought such entertainment on a Monday.

You sure it wasn't a Nutria? Nutria's are bigger but in the water they look very, very similar. They're also very docile animals and don't scare easily. Both are in Florida.

Once when jet skiing with my buddy, we let our skis float out into the middle of a cove and a Nutria swam up and sat on my buddies ski cleaning himself. It was hilarious. Hence his being named the 'Rat ski'.

They're kind of cute but out of water they really look like big rats.

I "otter" know...I used to live off a river & now live on a lake!!!

There's Nutrias in Florida? I knew the dang things were in Louisiana but didn't realize they were also in Florida. I've seen them while visiting Louisiana before and they do look like large rats.
