After 3 days we finally settled on naming the puppy Sophie. Now after we did this I got on here to announce it, and immediately remembered about Baby Sophie....That's why I don't have it in the subject line. I am in no way making light of that situation. However, we already had the tag made and the kids didn't know about what was going on, so Sophie she stays. Please don't be upset.
She is doing fine. She has had one accident. I thought we had a routine--I get up and let her out, then feed her, then I let her out again before I leave and she poops. Well, she skipped the "I let her out again" part today and did her business in the foyer. Other than that she has been fine and OK with being caged as well. She's putting all kinds of things in her mouth--arms, feet, etc.--and we are working on the "I'm a 4month old puppy and I nip" phase. She ate a crayon but has been pretty good otherwise IF we watch her and make sure she has toys nearby. She has started to bark loudly while playing with my DS a couple of times and scared him a little--it's a long road from mellow 5 year old golden to hyper 4 month old lab.
BTW I didn't in any way want to seem like we are forgetting Ranger. The reason I bought a pup so quickly was that DS was taking it VERY hard. Friday night he said "I wish I could be in doggy heaven so I could see Ranger" . TOTALLY freaked me out. He is only 6. So the next day we went looking for a puppy. Today DS said he misses Ranger, but he loves Sophie too, which made me feel better about buying a dog so fast.

Sophie is a lovely name, Robin. I like it very much. :)

And please--don't feel guilty over getting another dog so quickly. Lots of people do the same.

You are giving a puppy a happy home and a family to love. Nothing wrong with that. :)

I think a new puppy will help your children feel better about their love and loss of Ranger. Sophie is a beautiful name and we all know there is no disrespect intended. In fact I think that might have been one of my suggestions, I'm into the S names for dogs. Enjoy your new furbaby.

Great name! Thanks for letting us know! Now all we need is a picture!

I am sure Sophie will be a great addition to the family!

Jodi :D

I think Sophie is a pretty name! :)

Somewhere over the rainbow bridge, your precious Ranger is smiling down on you, and I think happy to know you gave a puppy something that every homless pet needs - a loving family.

Congratulations on your new puppy Sophie. Just because your family has a new dog, it doesn't mean you loved Ranger any less. Or that you don't grieve for him. It just means you have a heart large enough to love many.

I wish you many years of happiness with your sweet little girl.

I quite like Sophie for you pooch, it has a nice ring to it.

So Welcome Sophie:wave:

I think Sophie is a lovely name.

I like 'Sophie'!

My son is around your sons age, and I TOTALLY understand the 'puppy heaven' comments! When our cat had to be put down, we told him that she was in Kitty Heaven.

OMG! We are considering getting a Lab puppie! I loved reading your very descriptive account of the active, nipping, 4 month old puppie phase!!!!

Since I have never had a dog like this, I would love to hear more about how it is going with Sophie... your son... And just everything that you wouldn't mind sharing about having/training your new puppie! Feel free to send me a PM.

PS: Which color is Sophie? I would love to see a photo!

Thanks!

Good luck with the new addition..............
There must be a run on the name Sophie, I just adopted a cat named Sophie!
I don't think anyone will think it is disrespectful, it is a beautiful name.

I have a "niece pup" named Sophie and she now has a laundromat named after her... THE most spoiled dog "only child" you will ever find!

We had a couple of surprises at Sophie's vet appt. today. First off, she is closer to 6 months, according to her teeth. That's OK, although the older she is, the harder it will be to break her of any bad habits (she did a number in the basement this morning while DH was in the shower; I told him she HAS to be caged unless she is being watched). Toilet training is a priority. Obedience will be soon as well, although the only free night I have is Thursday so I hope they have a class!
Also, she is not going to be big. I like big dogs! That's why I got a lab mix, and my last two dogs were a 75 pound golden and a 60 pound lab mix! Unfortunately for me, he thinks she might have a smaller breed mixed in with the lab. Since she's already 6 months and only weighs 24 pounds, he thinks she'll top out in the mid 30 pound range. Oh well. Although I feel like I was a little misled by the humane society guy, she is a little cutie (sorry I am not technicallly advanced enough to do photos yet) and she will at least be a medium dog.
Wish us luck!
Robin M.
