We walked/rode our bikes to Disney World mile wise this summer around our town. Our trek started 4/21 and tonight we logged the final miles on our bikes down to the Polynesian from Kokomo, IN! I am the proudest mom in the world of my two boys...they rode their bikes and walked along with my husband and I. We would go after dinner for rides and spend time together. We rode up to the town where they go to school for ice cream- 18 miles round trip. We are all feeling better- I have gone down a pant size and lost close to 10 pounds.

We are going to continue this. We are going to start our journey home. I know we won't make it home by 9-20 but we will make sure our journey takes us all the way home.

This is a great way to prepare kids for all the walking they will do. Yes, my kids are 13 and 11 but younger kids can do it on a smaller scale. It was 1020.15 miles according to mapquest from our house to the Polynesian...I did the shortest route since if we were walking that is the way we would go. We ended tonight at 1020.8 miles!

:rotfl: When I first read your title I thought you had literally ridden your bikes to WDW! Still that is pretty impressive - and you're right, excellent preparation for all of the walking you will do when you actually get there.

Sounds like a great way to spend time with your fmaily and get fit and healty too.

Congratulations!

Wow, what an accomplishment! Congratulations!

Yay Mom!!! What a wonderful thing to do with your boys. I love hearing about families that are active together. If more parents did things like this we'd have less health/obesity issues with our children today. Bravo!

I totally thought you made your boys ride to WDW!!! I would've been way too tired to go on any rides!!

Congratulations!! Can I ask what types of games and conversations you had along an 18 mile ride with your pre-teens? How did you keep them at it?

Maybe I'm not the brightest bulb..... but it took me a few moments to realize you didn't ride your bikes to WDW. I was totally thinking you made your kids ride down to WDW and you started riding in April and intended to be home by September 20th!!!!

I was thinking you were insane. I envisioned a little trailer type thing hooked up to your bikes carrying all your luggage.

:lmao: Like I said... I'm not the brightest bulb.

I also thought you actually rode your bike to DW!!! I think its time to go to bed!

Great idea, and good way to get fit. I might do this after my upcoming vacation. I'll have to run 4.75 miles per day. I'm already doing 3.13 and it is easy so stretching it out a little won't be a problem.

Conversation wise we would talk about our Disney vacation, upcoming school things, sports, friends, etc. Of course the boys would bicker with each other at times and other times we just rode.
