Our recent trip, 12/28-1/06, was split between VWL for the first three nights and BWV the last six nights. We used points for night 1, then cash for nights 2 & 3 ($450 + tax x 2, vs. 75 points per night!!). We used points for the rest of our stay.
This is the first time we have stayed at VWL (a one-bedroom)--I really liked VWL! I am used to the pastels at BWV and I LIKED the bold colors at VWL. I loved the "cabin in the woods" feel. I ran around snapping pictures of everything, from the "laundry room" door with cut-outs to the pine cones on the lamps! I know all of the VWL owners are thinking, "duh" but you have to understand, I knew nothing other than BWV! I still prefer the location of Boardwalk and BCV, but I liked the theming of VWL better. Also, the hallways had a totally different feel to them than BWV's hallways, which are long and freezing cold. The VWL walk from the elevator (for us, anyway, in room 4530) was short and cozy.
I do have a complaint about the bathroom sink: the faucet spout is too close to the front edge of the sink - I was splashing water on the front of the sink when washing my face.
We checked in at BWV on New Year's Eve at about 10 am, and as we got into the left-turn lane to turn in to Boardwalk, there were two CMs checking IDs to make sure that non-resort guests were not able to sneak in and use BW's parking lot instead of the Epcot or MGM lots. I have NEVER seen the parking lot so empty....it was great. The CM said non-resort guests were angry at him for not letting them in...we were happy to find parking.
We had a great time, hardly went to the parks; swam a lot, relaxed (slept in every day), went to DD, ate in our villa a lot: in the 9 days we were there, we only ate out once all four of us together (at the Clam Bake, our first time trying that). My husband and I ate twice at Blue Zoo, and left our kids (11 and 9) in the room watching Disney channel
