Hi gang,
I can't believe that my first post about ashley was almost 4 years ago. Ashley bounced back after about 2 weeks of fluid theapy. The vet final diagnosed ashely with a condition that i cannot remember the name of. It was sudden onsets of kidney failure, that would come and go. They would range about once a year, only. We take her to the vet and do about 1 week of treatment and she would bounce back to normal, even her blood work was normal after the treatment. I'd have to take her in every other month for blood.Other than that she was acting like a normal cat around the house.
on saturday sept 19, 2009, ashley is now 12 or 13 years old and she began to vomit and sleep alot, i knew her kidneys were acting up again. It had been almost a year to the day since the last episode and i made the vet appt. The next day, we brought her in. Blood work confirmed that it was her kidneys again and treatment was started. In the past ashley would get treatment for about a week and bounce right back to her old self.
Sadly this was'nt the case this time, i brought her in every day and ashley seemed to get worse. By friday, almost a week later, ashley had'nt eaten in 4 days and had'nt moved from our kitchen floor. This time the treatment was not working. I brought her in on saturday and repeat blood work was done. Her kidneys had not gotten any better, but actually showed signs of being worse that the week before's blood test. I was told ashley was in end stage kidney failure.
She was given fluids and a shot to make her hungry and i brought her home, praying she would get hungry and eat and start to feel better. the vet and me agreed that if she showed no sign of improvement in 48 hours, we would have to put ashley to sleep on monday. That night i could not sleep and layed on the kitchen floor with her all night, just petting her and telling her how much we loved her. She never did get hungry or eat.
Sunday, ashley took a turn for the worse, around 9 am ashley begin to have sezuires, she had never had a seizure ever before. I knew it was time. I made the call and told them i needed to bring her in. Me, my wife and our son held ashley kissed her and hugged her and told her how much we loved her, even our other cat came to lick ashley on the forhead. She was so weak, and i put her in her carrier and left the house hysterical.
They asked me if i wanted to be with her and i had to be with her, just to let her know that i was still there. They gave her the shot in my arms at 12:08 in the after noon and at 12:20 and still in my arms ashley was pronunced offically deceased. I have'nt cried like that in the longest, but i miss her so much. She seemed to look so peacefull after she was gone, i just wish we had more time with her. Our family has a void that can never be replaced.
In loving memory, Ashley.
