she went to the beach today with her friend. I made sure she put on suntan lotion before she left and she promised to apply it all day. Even the Mom said she knew that she kept up with it.
I just feel bad because dd is going to be miserable on the 7 hour plane ride.
I am puting aloe on her, but is there any quick cure?????

If you can put it on quick, perscription strength steroid cream. If you don't have that, use hydrocortisone cream. Not on her face though.

Milk. Soak a t-shirt, towels, whatever in milk and lay on top. Takes the sting out.

Wet a towel. Wring out most of the water, so it's not drippy, but still pretty wet. Lay it across her shoulders and have her sit under a fan or in front of one. She'll probably complain it's too cold. As soon as the towel stops feeling cool against her skin, take it off - flip it over - and reapply. Do this over and over until it draws most of the heat out.

My DGP's always swore by freshly made tea and/or bags....

You soak a cloth in the chilled tea, apply it to the burn and it take the heat right out.

I've heard soaking in a bath of head and shoulders works somehow too...

This is going to sound really weird but it worked, sour cream. Back when I was in college my room mate and I got so sunburned, she said her grandmother told her to use sour cream so we figured it was worth a shot and we covered ourselves in it. We smelled nasty but felt great because it took that burning feeling right out.

Just becareful with the Hydrocortisone Cream, 1% or less is for Sunburns, not the normal 2%+ stuff. It's not recommended to use this on large areas, which I assume her burn might be.

Head and Shoulders works great for a condition called Tinea versicolor, or Sun Fungus.

last week, my dh got a bad sunburn on top of one foot. I wrapped it with a cloth soaked in apple cider vinegar and voila-all the pain was gone. If that had not worked, I would have gone to milk. Years ago, a teenage me got a really bad sunburn. The ER soaked me in milk. It worked pretty well.

:thumbsup2

You have to be very careful with the amount of sun one gets. Skin cancer comes from a lifetime of sun contact not just a recent dose. The best spfs are about 50 & above.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. She is still asleep now but when she gets up I will use the suggestions.
She used a strong SPF and thats what I don't really get, its what she used when we were at the beach memorial day weekend and she didn't an ounce of sunburn then. But then again yesterday was the first day of summer and the sun was probably stronger then it was memorial day weekend.

Also, if she's really uncomfortable on the plane, taking ibuprofen every 4 hours will relieve some of the discomfort.

A friend of mine swears by noxzema.

Noxzema does work. I remember I got burned really bad on my shoulders and face the first time I went to Disney when I was around 8. My dad took me and bought some noxzema. As soon as it touched my skin, I felt the coolness of it and it took away the burning pain. Within about 2 days, I was much better.

Is there any chance it was old and had lost its potency?

I'm thinking the same thing. Or maybe you left it in the car & the heat did something? That would be weird as sunscreen is supposed to be able to be left out on a beach blanket.
