We have dolphins on our side!

Me too, I love them. I don't agree with the animal activists who say the dolphins are being mistreated. They are doing good work, and from what I saw on TV, they seem to be enjoying it. After they locate a mine, they are given a RESTAURANT STYLE MEAL. Now what dolphin doesn't appreciate a nice fish fry?:D

I think the dolphins are probably healthier than those in the wild. They have to eat better :)

From what I know about dolphins they love human contact. I think they are just the most special animals.

What?

I am confused. Dolphins are locating mines?

herc.

herc, part of the reason the food relief can't reach iraq is that the canal they need to come through is protected by mines. The dolphins go under and find them and report back to the boat. They service men/women go get them and remove them.

Last week Leno was remarking about how the dolphins were going to help find the mines, the birds were helping to detect gases, all the animals were helping....except the French poodles. ;) (Don't hit me....I'm actually nuts for poodles.)

Disnee Dad Says....................................As far as I know, dolphins are the second smartest species, just behind humans but well ahead of the French!

One of the reports I saw said the bond between the dolphin and their trainer is a lot like between the K-9 dogs and their handlers
(a friend of mine is a K-9 police officer and his dog lives with his family). They said the dolphins are trained to spot the mines, come up and let their handler know there's a mine in the area, then he (or she) goes back to put a marker by it. They don't actually make contact with the mine, and yes, they get a good dinner out of it. They have specially equipped tanks on the airplanes as they are flown to where ever they're working. The picture I saw of a dolphin standing on his tail -- he had a video camera on his flipper so they could see what he was seeing -- I'd vote for an oscar for a dolphin before I'd vote for Michael Moore!

I think it is wonderful that they can train animals to do such a special job and save human lives. It is not just the american lives they are saving but the humanitarian aids and the Iraqi's.

I have a new appreciation for those birds too. I saw a cool picture yesterday of a soldier pointing a gun and the bird was sitting right next to him. They handle these birds and get very attached.

PETA is having a fit over this. They would rather have dolphins not involved and allow our ships blown up and people starve from lack of humanitarian aid. There are no words for people like that!

Once again PETA has it all wrong. I think they believe the dolphins find the mines and it blows up the dolphin immediately or something. They always spout off before they know the facts. I think it's apparent when you see the footage of the dolphins working with their handlers that they are enjoying the whole thing. To them, it's a game - with a mighty delicious reward at the end. :D

Thank God for these beautiful, intelligent, gentle creatures. I've always felt that the animals are among our closest and most loyal friends here on this earth. I'm glad to see how helpful these dolphins are to the military in this war effort.

Perhaps love is in the air...errr...water?
