WE arrived in Barrow, Ak a week ago. My hubby and I have been working non stop since we got here. Wednesday it was 70 degrees and very hot here. Today it is 49 and windy. We watched a High School football game and a potluck(potlatch) for all the new teachers with a native dancing demonstration.
Everyone has been so friendly and so helpful. We are settled and things are falling into place. I also joined the official Polar Bear Club by diving into the Arctic Ocean. Here is a Youtube video of all the new hire teachers going into the ocean.

I am the one in the orange shirt diving in. Not as shocking as you think. Will keep you updated. Bugdeting up here is a real trick. You have to add shipping and handling to everything you buy, including all your food.

Wow! What an adventure! Congrats to you for taking on the challenge! Keep us updated - sounds like you are finding ways to make new friends! Awesome!

That's wonderful!! I have always wanted to visit Alaska - it looks beautiful!!

Wish you the best of luck and please post some pics!!!!

Amazing! Enjoy your time in the far north and best wishes to you and your DH as you start this adventure.

Good luck!:thumbsup2 I have a friend from Wyoming that used to be in the school district admin a couple of years ago, and my FIL will be going back to the North Slope to do training for technology for the school district. He did it in 2009 and I guess they want him back to do it again soon.

I remember when Blankenship started the football program up there and everyone thought he was insane. It looks like the program has stuck if they are still playing games. I saw a special on it on TV and the hurdles to play football are incredible up there.

Actually, my DW told me that my FIL is back up in Barrow this week conducting educational software training for the school district. I guess he's been getting flown around to some of the outlying villages... Say hi if you see a guy from Wyoming that looks like he's lost!
