How many of us has seen the movie Song of the South? Not I....

I have.

My parents took my sister and I to see when we were kids. I ordered the video back in 2004 so that my son, niece and nephew could watch it before our 2005 trip.

About two years ago my paid a few dollars for a bag of videos(yes, he's ROC :rotfl2: ). One of the videos in the bag was SOTS.

I own the movie on Laser Disc that I ordered from Japan.

Its the original version in English, but it has Japanese subtitles during the songs only.

It is a wonderful film.
Its my favorite Disney live-action, and may be my favorite classic Disney film, in general, up until Beauty and the Beast was released.

I saw it on UTube a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if it's still there.

It was the first movie I saw without an adult at the theater with me. I must have been 8 or 9yo. I loved it! I have a copy that a dear friend got for me. SOTS is a classic IMO.

Seems like there was a lot of negative feelings about it involving race issues.

I saw it at the movie theatre when I was around 4-years old. I'm pretty sure I was 3 or 4. I know I was very young! It would have been between 1985-1987, somewhere around that time. I remember my brother having to be removed from the theatre. He was just a baby at the time. I have also seen it a few other times because my Godfather had it on video! :)

I saw it in a theater in Meridian, Mississippi in the early 80's. It caused some controversy in that part of the country due to the way the black actors portray themselves. I love the music from this movie, especially, "Sooner or Later".

BTW--I have never been on Splash Mountain, nor do I intend to. I'm a big chicken :goodvibes

I seen this when it first came out in the movies and I loved it. It is a classic. I wish they would release to DVD.

Directly to your point...

I always comment when we are in the Splash queue that out of all the rides that are based on movies, more people ride Splash that have NOT seen SotS (and don't know any of the characters and situations that are portrayed) than any other attraction.

If you know the characters and songs from the film, the ride is much more enjoyable.

"P-P-P-Please don't throw me into that BRIAR PATCH!"

My parents took us to see it in the theater when we were little. I haven't seen it since.

I also Bought it on LAser Disc Imported from Japan. Then I had to rent a laser Disb player to make a VHS copy. I saw it many many times late 60's early 70's in movie theater. Back when the matenee was .50 or around there and they would let you stay through both sittings.

i bought it on video about 10 years ago.We always watch it before our trip as brer rabbit is our favourite character.
I also remember my gran reading me brer rabbit stories when i was very young,i still have the books somewhere,i find they are more enjoyable than the film.

I also saw it in the theaters in the 70's with my cousins. I would like to see it again as it has been so long.

It's a truly great Disney movie. I have it on VHS, but the quality of the tape is degrading. I would love to see Disney release this movie in the states, but I doubt that would ever happen.

Actually, it was a possibility last year. I believe Iger even spoke publicly about it, but said that upon further review they again decided it wasn't the time to do so.

I see their dillema. At this point, the film is mostly known by the Disney community only, and the larger public doesn't even remember it exists. If they bring it out just for "us", the fans, they likely wouldn't get the sales to make it worthwhile. On the other hand, if they market the heck out of it and it's in every Wal-mart, Target, and Best Buy, they would likely be deluged with complaints from people that think it's going to be "Mary Poppins" and aren't able to put it in cultural context.

I too hope that someday it can be seen so everyone can judge for themselves what they think of the film. It's just a question of the Disney company finding a way to do so without alienating people.

Yep, got the dvd of the original (1947) SOTS,
not the later ones released in theaters.

I have never seen it but would love to! Splash Mountain is one of my favorite rides!
