that we intended to use in March of 2018. We are already cruising in March of 2017. BUT there is a 5 night Dream over my July 2017 bday that has TWO stops at CC, as well as a 4 night Dream with two stops at CC (no day at sea). Can we use the placeholder we booked last month for that instead? I am thinking we can use it for any cruise as long as it takes place before 3/31/18.

Yes, you are correct. You can use the placeholder for any cruise as long as it departs before the 2 year mark of when you booked the placeholder. The only issue would be if there are blackout dates. In the case of a blackout date, you would not get the 10% discount from an OBB. In that case, I would think it would be a waste of a placeholder to use it on a blacked out cruise date. However, I would be very surprised if either of those Dream cruises are blacked out. There were a lot of blackout dates when they were first introduced, but lately it seems the blackout dates are mainly over the holidays, spring break times, and unusual itineraries like the NYC sailings and some of the European cruises.

Thanks! When we went on the Dream two weeks ago our CC day was almost completely washed out, so two days at CC sounds like heaven to us. DH sounded surprisingly supportive about booking a 4 night 3 months after our 7 night LOL.
Is there any OBC with the onboard booking placeholder, or just the 10% off? We can't book until Thursday anyhow.
If we book Thursday and then change our minds (our kids might shame us into not going that soon)--do we get the OBB benefits back?

For cruises of less than 7 nights there's $100 OBC. Cruises of 7 nights and longer - $200.

You can push the OBB out further to take it another date. It must be used (sailing started) within 24 months of the date you originally made the placeholder (while onboard).

Enjoy your cruise!

Has anyone confirmed that you just have to start not complete cruise within 24 months? This is what I have always heard but everything I read says completed by.

Hoping it is set sail by because I have a 6/14/15 placeholder that I plan want to use on a 6/10/17 7 night cruise.

This is the wording (bolding is mine) copied and pasted from my email confirmation under the Fare / Payment Information section of the placeholder we booked last summer:

Today's Date: 09-Jul-2015
Deposit: $200.00
Money Received: $200.00 *
Travel By: 09-Jul-2017

This reservation must commence on or before the Travel By date listed above or the reservation will automatically cancel and deposit will be refunded.

Check your confirmation and see if says the same thing. If so, you should be ok.

Even before they added this explanation, this was the rule. We have an OBB that never had this on it, but it worked the same way regardless. I think this has always been the case, it was just not well advertised.

Just checked my reservation confirmation and I am good. They really should change the wording that is on their site and a bunch of TA sites - including Dreams that says completed by.

Wow, I remember floating my placeholders for years -- miss those days!
