My son the musician (he's 18) found an ad in the local paper offering a Hammond organ for free if you move it. So of course he called (without thinking about how to get it or where to put it), and he was the only one, so the guy said it was his. None of his friends were available that night, so I (mom) agreed to go help him. We have a Santa Fe -- we had no idea if it would be big enough. However, I have to say, what a find! One owner, perfect condition, from 1968. Needs to be oiled, but there are no scratches, dings or dents, you can tell when it's all oiled up it'll sound great! It actually fit in the car, although I wasn't much help lifting (good thing the owner, a 70-year-old guy, was still healthy and strong!).
Does anyone own a Hammond? This is the L111 with the pedals and drawbars and all the bells and whistles. DS is very good at instrument repair, and is going to oil it himself, but he is a little uncertain on exactly what to do. One repair guy said he would (for $180) come and oil it and put WD40 on some other parts; the Hammond rep said WD40 shouldn't come within miles of the organ. If you have any experience taking care of these instruments, could you give some suggestions?
