We were totally blown away with Hilton Head. The Cast Members were just awesome, the resort was beautiful, the island was beautiful and we just had such an amazing time. Not that we ever thought we would have a bad time, we just did not think we we would love it as much. Our favorite thing was the Shrimp Boil and we totally loved B'Lou Crabbe. He was just the BEST!!

That being said, DH and I are seriously considering going to Vero next May for a few days and then going to WDW for a few days. Is the resort similar to HH in that it has the activities and relaxing homey atmosphere? Are there places to go around Vero Beach area like at Hilton Head. We loved Harbour Town!!

Thanks to everyone that posted so much info about Hilton Head, we can definatley see ourselves going every year.:D

I'd say no. The area around Vero is nothing like HH with all it's atmosphere and great places for vacation activites. A large part of the area is a retirement community. The resort itself is great, and there are local things to do, but not like Harbour town and HH style. That's an advantage HH has over Vero. It's still a wonderful beach resort.

That is exactly how we felt after our stay at HH. We are now going to VB 7/2-7/6. We will let you know how we liked it.

I've been to both now, at the same time of year. I like both for different reasons. HH left me deep down relaxed after only days. VB soothed the soul gradually and I left peaceful.

Here's what I found:

Beach - Both are very nice, clean and not overly crowded. MUCH easier access at VB since the Resort itself is built at oceanside.

Pool - Equally nice IMO. The slide at VB seemed a bit longer/higher but it may have just been that HH is darker. Great squirt area for kids plus mini golf at VB.

Biking - Better at HH, which is perfect for it and has many bike trails as well as the beach. At VB you can't really bike around the Resort and the main roads are busy.

Resort activities - Both had activities for children and adults, including a Character meal. VB did not offer anything like the Shrimp Boil at HH, which was fantastic. VB also did not have resident "characters" like B'Lou Crabbe or Shadow. VB had beach and turtle related activities.

Resort look - HH is pretty and natural, like you are hiking in the woods, with many little trails. VB is brighter and open and all walkways seem to lead to the ocean, the main focus.

Resort dining - More choices of on-site dining at VB, plus a bar.

Off-resort dining - Both HH and VB had plenty of great choices. Many excellent seafood restaurants in both locations.

Water Sports - More surf at VB and rentals of beach equipment are right at the Resort. Plenty of kayaking spots at both Resorts.

Water Cruises - Both places offer dolphin, nature and other cruises.

Golf/Tennis - HH can't be beat.

Shopping areas - HH has more cute shopping/dining/recreation areas like Harbor Town. When at VB you can travel to Fort Pierce, which has a marina area and shopping/dining. HH was just nicer though. VB is more into strip malls (Rt. 1).

Relaxing atmosphere - At HH, the whole island seemed relaxing. It was lush, green and not crazy anywhere. At VB, the Resort and beach are very relaxing. Outside of the Resort can get very busy and isn't pretty everywhere like HH was. If you drive some back roads at VB you will see orange groves, harbors and farm land which are nice. If you stick with Rt 510 and 1 watch out. Those roads are ugly and busy.
