Who are we? We are two families of four that came together for a Thanksgiving 3-day feast! This package of eight includes Aunt and Uncle, their two college boys, and myself and my partner and our two teenage boys! So that is a lot of boys to feed and we decided that we would do Deluxe dining and spread it out over 3 days.

We stayed at Kidani those first 3 days, and then my aunt and uncle had to leave and our family moved over to Jambo for the remaining 3 days where we ate OOP and much less!

OOP reviews will be
Earl of Sandwich

Kona Breakfast

We will also have snack credits we used and overall savings and even Final thoughts from several of our gang.

Let me also start by saying that Auntie is very umm... shall we say, thrifty with her money and was not at all convinced that this would be a good value. She would rather carry a cooler in the car with cold cuts and everyone just go out and make a sandwich.

Being one that helps her with all the cooking for this group, I thought that this would be a nice treat and that her and I would also feel like we were vacationing.

My partner and Uncle just go with the flow so other than making sure that they had food they liked, no problems there.

The boys have all cruised with us and so they really wanted Aunt and Uncle to experience some Disney dining and knew that Aunt would never pay OOP to do it. But we did hope that 2 meals a day would fill up this big eating group.

We gave everyone the link to restaurants and had them choose their top 3. We gave points to each #1, #2, and #3 and that is how we choose our restaurants.

So lets get our napkins out and prepare to feast!!!!!!

this sounds fun!

Hooray! A reader! I thought I might end up just typing this all to myself. :lmao: You never ever know.

I just noticed you are from New Orleans! I am going there for the first time in February. I just found out. Company thing. But still I am very excited!

This one was in fact not on my list :rolleyes1, perhaps because of the bad reviews it gets here. But regardless, this was our first stop! We wanted a traditional Thanksgiving menu only once this Thanksgiving day and so we went with an alternative for lunch.

We checked in and there was a LONG line. I thought, oh-no, it may take us forever. But I didn't realize that they had just opened so there were no tables yet filled. We were called to ours within 5 minutes of checking in.

Right away I realized that the menu I had seen did not match up with this menu in my hand. Not that I am super picky, but DS 13 is! :scared1: I scrambled to help him choose his entree and tell him what to ask to have left off. I informed the Aunt and Uncle that we were doing a food report and they said as long as I didn't post their pictures on the internet where preditors could find them and come and kill them or steal their belongings, that I could, in fact take pictures of their food and they would co-operate. So... if any of you plan a killing or stealing spree, please stop reading NOW! Thank you. And on to the report.

The first thing brought to our table were these chips and salsas.

DSCN4354.jpg

I had read that these were standard Tostitos or some other brand but they must have changed as they were the traditional fried chips. Lightly salted and the salsas were mild. I will say that it is hard to dip into the salsa if you leave them in the little holder.

We ordered our standard soft drinks and had drank the first one fully before our waiter came back to take our order.

Now this gets a little confusing because the kids all thought of names for themselves for the report... but they picked names like Vanilla Lightening and Citrus Hurricane and Chocolate Thunder and Mocha Tornado... although these seem fun and intereting... they do pose a challenge to remember who goes with which crazy name and so I have since renamed them all myself. :rolleyes1

College Kid 1 (CK1), College Kid 2 (CK2), Thing 1 (T1), Thing 2 (T2), Aunt, Uncle, Me, & Mary. Ok?

CK 1 and CK2 ordered Tacos de Pato - Flour tortillas filled with duck meat marinated with tamarind sauce garnished with avocado, pineapple, and chives $10

DSCN4355.jpg

We are plate sharers/tasters so I can say I did taste these and they were fabulous. I am not a duck eater but the meat was well seasoned and tender.

T2, Myself, and Aunt ordered a Shrimp Cocktail in a medium pico sauce with avocado garnish!

DSCN4360.jpg

This was very spicy but very good. The shrimp were small sized and swimming in the sauce. T2 only ordered this for others to share as there was nothing on the appetizer menu that he cared for.

T1 and Mary ordered Sopa Azteca - traditional tortilla soup with avocado, cheese and pasilla pepper $6

DSCN4358.jpg

Both said that it was ok, not what they thought it would be and would not order it again. I ate the avocado out of T1's but they just tasted everyone else's and enjoyed the extra shrimp cocktail.

Uncle ordered the Tostados de Tinga - Fried corn tortillas topped with black beans, lettuce, onions, advocado, tomato marinated chicken, sour cream, and fresh cheese $9

DSCN4356.jpg

He enjoyed the appetizer very much. I didn't taste it as he was at the far end of the table from me and I just took his word on it. :rotfl:

For entrees we tried to make sure we got a good variety as well. But T2 ordered a chicken enchalada plain, no sauce, with rice and black beans.

DSCN4368.jpg

He said the chicken was spicy but I think he had just ate too many chips and drank like 3 drinks by this time. It wasn't his thing. He had hoped for nachos here but they were not on the menu.

CK2 ordered some kind of pork dish. I do not see the description on either of the online menus but it was far too spicy for him. But do not worry, his brother liked it and they traded entrees. This will not be the last trading done on this trip. :confused3

DSCN4372.jpg

CK1 ordered the Mahi-Mahi a la Veracruzana - Grilled fillet of mahi-mahi served over white rice, prepared with capers, olives, bell peppers, Spanish onions, and tomatoes, seasoned with white wine and spices $25

DSCN4367.jpg

This was said to be very good and since CK2 switched his pork entree for this, I would have to say it HAD to be good because CK2 does not like fish. :confused3

Continued next post....San Angel Inn part 2

T1 ordered the Verdes Enchaladas. I do not see these on either menu as well. I am thinking when I go back in January to take a picture of their menus so the ones here and on All Ears can be updated.

DSCN4371.jpg

This guy can eat! So let me tell you I doubt that anyone other than himself tasted this and he most likely had it gone before we even finished our round of pictures. So I guess it was good. :confused3

Mary had the Chicken Pableno and Rice which is also nowhere to be found on the menus. She said it was fabulous.

DSCN4369.jpg

Aunt and Myself both had the Steak tacos also not on the menus. They were mini tacos but very filling. I thought the meat was cooked a bit too much as it was a little tough but I had not asked that the meat be cooked a certain way or anything like that.

DSCN4365.jpg

Uncle ordered Sirloin Asado con Chilaquiles - Grilled sirloin steak, with Chilaquiles (layers of fried corn tortilla, green tomatillo sauce, topped with fresh cheese, onions, sour cream) and served with Mexican rice and beans. - $17.95

Let me just say his steak was HUGE! I am not sure he even finished it all off and we are not ones to not "Clean our plates".

DSCN4364.jpg

Now that we were all thoroughly stuffed, we ordered desserts of course. :scared1:

T1 & T2 & Myself ordered the white chocolate moose with berries on top which is not on the menus here. YUMMY!

DSCN4373.jpg

CK1 ordered Flan de Vainilla - vanilla custard in syrup, topped with roasted almonds $5.75

DSCN4376.jpg

CK2, Mary, and Aunt ordered the Capirotada de Chocolate Blanco - white chocolate golden raisin bread pudding served with Mexican milk caramel $5.75
DSCN4374.jpg

And Uncle ordered the Vanilla Gelato and he said it was good.

DSCN4375.jpg

Dispite all the food we had ordered, the desserts were completely finished! :dance3:

We all really loved the atmosphere in this place. It felt like we were outside enjoying an evening meal in Mexico. The food was not as bad as it is made out to be. Would I go again? Absolutely IF someone else asked me to go. It is still not my favorite although it rated very high on Uncle and CK1's list.

Up next will be Whispering Canyon Cafe Thanksgiving Menu

Great start to your reviews!! The last few reviews of San Angel have been great ones so I'll have to think about adding it to my list in the future!

:cheer2:Thanks for stopping by! :cool1:

yummy reviews :thumbsup2

I will try to get an updated menu in January and upload it here. But there were plenty of items to choose from and it was a nice dining experience.

I'm here to check out the food. I do love to eat at DisneyWorld! Bring it on!

Wow, the new menu at San Angel looks great! We were there in the Tostitos and Pace days and decided never again, but the recent reviews and your pics have me thinking we should give it another go.

I love that you are all plate sharers!
I was pleasantly surprised by the San Angel Inn on my last trip too!

Thank you all for popping over... I think I have now had more responses than my first PTR ever got! :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::banana:

:wave2:
I'm here, and salavating... wiping up the drool as we speak!

:rotfl::rotfl: Don't get any drool on your ring! :rotfl::rotfl: Nice to see you over here!

:rolleyes1The pictures could have been a little better if I had used the correct setting in that dark and romantic restaurant... Just saying... :lmao:

We did try to be discreet...but with 8 people and everyone wanting to taste things... I'm sure we looked like we had never had restaurant food before. :sad2: and then there is the fact that we are passing the camera... well...:lmao::confused3 I'm sure you have sat near someone like us before. :scared1:

San Angel looks really good! I'll take an ADR for one please.... Now if I can just convince the others in my group.

TY for your reviews!

Yay I'm glad you decided to do a food review! I'm in

Well, my dear, you did inspire me! And since I did get the paranoid family to go along with it all... :cloud9:... Glad to see you here!

pixiedust: I'm uploading pictures as I type this. :thumbsup2 What's your favorite restaurant by the way?

Boma! There are so many flavors you just can't find every day. I've eaten there four times....twice in 2001 when I first discovered it (loved it so much we went back a couple of days later), once in 2005, and again this past summer.

Sorry I'm late. But I'm here now and can't wait for the reviews to continue (great start).

This cracked me up. My sister-in-law joined us for a couple of days and we had a similar awkward moment when my kids tried to explain that I was writing a trip report and would want to take pictures of her food.

I also debated on the whole names and pictures thing, and decided to just let it fly, but stop short of last names, addresses, social security numbers and bank accounts. I don't tell non-Disers about the trip report because I know the reaction I'll get: "aren't you afraid....giving out all of that information?!"
