We dropped the ball (and lost our Treasure cabin!)

We are sailing on the Treasure's Feb 1st 2025 departure. I used a lot of information gleamed from the DIS to carefully select our perfect cabin in category 5A.

We booked this trip months ago, and our final payment due date was fast approaching. DH asked about it, and I reminded him it was due. We misunderstood each other...(see where this is going?) and I thought he was handling it, he thought I was handling it. Sure enough we woke up to an email yesterday morning that our cruise had been canceled for non-payment. My heart SANK!

We called DCL guest services the moment their office opened and the cast member we spoke to couldn't have been more gracious or patient. She was able to rebook our cruise, apply our deposit, and keep our fare price (thank goodness, because it had increase so much since we booked!) BUT the one thing is we were not able to keep our cabin. We're now in a VGT room. We've never had VGT on any cruise and we're a little nervous about it, but I'm grateful we got to keep our fare!

Lesson learned moving forward, we're going to pay much closer attention to our cruise payments!

Hoping for a good cabin for you. SO nice to hear you didn’t have to pay more money for the cruise. That could have been an expensive lesson learned.

And sounds like you are going to remain married. Phew!

So, early Feb, you’ll let us know how the assigned cabin was (or if it ends up being the cabin you originally booked). …

Haha, I just paid ours in full few weeks early due to paranoia of doing exactly the same thing! Glad the CM was able to help, crazy that someone snatched up your reserved cabin that quickly.

If the category had already gone to GTY, it's possible that the room didn't go back into inventory to be selected.
Interesting; that makes a lot of sense. So theoretically they could end up in the same cabin? Or is the category they ended up with better than the original?

I laughed out loud at the remain married part 🤣 No worries there, we were both to blame!

And yes, I'll definitely post in the thread when we find out our room!

They say they're now in a VGT, which means they will definitely get a better room than they originally had.

Sorry, this is new to us - on the phone, the CM said we would be "in the same room category OR better", she didn't make it sound like an upgrade was definite! That's still correct with VGT right? We care less about the room itself and more the location, we really want to be on Deck 10!

VGT means you can be assigned any Veranda cabin. Not necessarily on Deck 10.

What room did you have originally? The Wish/Treasure don't actually have category 10As, I don't think. Were you in a verandah on deck 10?

^^ is correct. There is a Deck 10. There is not a cabin Category 10 on the Wish & Treasure.

If you were booked on Deck 10, in a verandah cabin, you may get Deck 10. But you may also get any deck 6-11. But it will have a verandah. The interior cabin space should be the same (or possibly a little larger), but the balcony does vary.

It is also possible to be assigned a handicap accessible cabin. More floor space, but no tub, just a shower.

Nothing you can do now other than do what all of us do when booked with an unassigned cabin: wait and wonder. Our cabin changed the day of the cruise! And ended up in a better location (for our needs). It just becomes part of the story. Nothing boring about yours, so far. You will remember this cruise.

Your confirmation email should tell you what category you are now (and your old email would say what you had before). My guess is you're a GTY for a specific category and not a VGT. A GTY would get assigned whatever category is listed or higher.

Sorry for the confusion - the original booking was category 5A on Deck 10, Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah!

So you probably have a 5A GTY now since there were no 5As left. It's possible you'll get your original room or you could end up in a cat 4, too.
Category 5A is only on deck 10, but Category 4 (A-E) can be found on decks 6-11. DCL would consider a Category 4 stateroom to be an "upgrade" even if it's a lower deck.

A VGT would be any verandah, categories 7 thru 4, which again are decks 6-11.

We've booked a VGT and a 7A GTY on the Wish (which ended up being a 6B). We were happy both times. On our upcoming cruise, we had a placeholder, and it was less expensive to use that on a selected cabin than to take a GTY. In the future, I think I will only choose my cabin if I'm using a placeholder, and it works out to be less costly. We've been in many locations on the ships - decks 6, 7, 8 and 9, midship, aft, forward, port, starboard - and I can't say that any were particularly bad. Some we picked, once we were upgraded and twice we got moved to another cabin in the same category. There's been pros and cons to all of them so I'm not sure that I do any better by choosing one myself.

I'm on that sailing as well, and was very paranoid about our final payment date too. Being such a unique itinerary and the Treasure being so new, that sailing booked up fast. Glad you were able to still get a stateroom and for the original price you paid!
