We did it! We bought all of our groceries for our one week stay at OKW, at a Publix and ate every one of our meals at home in our villa. We also brought drinks, snacks, and sandwiches with us into each of the parks.

The security people are looking for guns, not for food! :thumbsup2

Now if we just had free tickets like we did from 1992-2000!

Did you have fun?! This goes to show that we all have different ideas on how to best "do" Disney!

Bobbi:goodvibes

Congratulations! :thumbsup2 We are definately planning on doing more in room meals for our trip in December. We will probably cut down on the TS meals, too, but I will not give up at least one meal at my favorite, Jiko! I am sure that you save some park time taking care of your food needs that way, too. Thanks for sharing that it can be done!

Not a single Mickey head? Or box of popcorn? I don't know if I'm terribly impressed or sad for you.

FWIW, at least once per trip I get to be the sacrificial Mom they pick on...open every single tiny zipper compartment in the diaper bag please. Honestly, I think some of those guys are TSA wannabe rejects.

.

Yes, that's the way I feel too. I had enough of feeling/being poor when I was growing up.

Bobbi:)

if that were true they would search people not bags, i was told its for alcohol

psst... Not true, not true at all...

From our trip at the start of Jan... when a little 4 year old in front of us asked the MK security guard what he was doing, the security guard replied that they're looking for poison red apples. They don't want Snow white being poisoned yet again, she's pretty bad about taking food from strangers.

;)

So - no red apples... remember that or you might wind up in Disney prison.

I hear that! Then again, we are REALLY looking forward to a Publix Boar's Head London Port sub when we go down next week. Possibly two... ;) But I don't think we could ever give up our almond pretzels, cheesecake brownies, Biergarten buffet, Le Cellier filet... well... you get my point. I'll be honest - those treats are about half the reason we go... :rotfl:

They did ask me a weird question about my two pairs of shoes once. So, theyre looking for athletic apparel too, apparently.

I always wonder how many times a day someone will eat out on a line like that. Sure it sounds clever to us, but think of the poor ******* security guard next to him that heard that 30 times that day :rotfl:

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I mean, I don't really care, and to each his own, but for me it would be a horrible way to vacation. I'd go hungry before I'd bring sandwiches into a park (and sitting at a table meant for paying guests is just wrong in my opinion). For us the dining is part of the vacation, and I'm certainly not going to prepare my food & eat it in the room like I would if I was home on a weeknight.

That said - you don't have to break the bank to enjoy some nice meals even at WDW ::yes::

If my budget prohibited eating out, I could see doing this. I'd rather go as cheaply as possible than not go at all. It would take some away from the trip for us though because having a nice meal at the parks is part of the allure of WDW trips.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Scenario 1: Mom, I'm hungry. Well here's a sandwich prepared exactly the way you like it - with the exact snacks and drink you like. Enjoy.

Scenario 2: Mom, I'm hungry. Well, let's trudge across the park, wait in a long line, figure out something you might eat, pay $$$ for pretty darn lame food (which, again, you might eat).

Scenario 1 isn't always so bad.

For out last trip, we shopped at Costo and Winn Dixie and planned all of our meals. Our plan was to have a big breakfast each morning, then return to the room early afternoon for a big meal/pool time/downtime and then head back to the parks about 4 pm. It was a great schedule and one that we are likely to repeat. We had a large group of twelve and I think all of our groceries were less than one sit down meal LOL! We did eat a character meal out and picked up a few snacks (the Noodle Bowl was finally open so we had to try that - slightly disappointed).

No need to feel sorry for us. We ate very well and enjoyed out time together during the meal times. For our group it was an excellent option.

:wave2: Hi neighbor!!! I think kitchens were probably put into these viillas for that very reason. Glad you used it and had such a nice time. :thumbsup2
