So...
After hearing about DVC for years. Reading, listening, researching, we went on a trip to WDW with a cruise recently and while at WDW ended up (unplanned) staying 2 nights in an AKV studio.
The Path Had Been Set
On the cruise, we went to a DVC presentation, focusing on BLT.
We thought about it - and decided, let's do it! For reasons that don't matter, the paperwork didn't get completed onboard the ship, so we had to finish it all up upon return.
Uh-oh, it's the Wrong Road
In that time, I started thinking, "Why are we buying at BLT which we have never ever seen, even though it's less than AKV, which we love and dream about?"
After getting TOO much advice - we almost backed out of the entire thing.
Finding Our Way Home
Then, after "forgetting about it" for a few days, it became crystal clear: We like AKV. We want to own where we like. It's worth it to us to pay more for something we feel really good about vs pay less for something we are not sure about and with which we are unfamiliar. We want DVC, we just were uneasy about the entire BLT-never-seen-it-but-we-love-AKV part.
... With a Little Pixie Dust to Line the Way
Called our rep, got everything RE-drafted - with AKV as our home. Got lucky, hit upon some year-end promotion, and got AKV for less than we had decided we were okay with paying.
After signing all our paperwork last night, I am excited to say that I am a DVC member, with AKV as our home! Woooohoooo!

Nothing compares to purchasing 
We are starting to plan our next trip and staying at BLT, one of the EPCOT resorts or AKV is part of the discussion. All have their good points/bad points but AKV keeps winning. I am sure that is where we will stay again.
