Hi,
:Pinkbounc
:D
We decided to stay at the Port Orleans Riverside today. We were able to the the AP rate for it so we are staying there instead of the All Star Sports.

Can anyone tell me how it is to stay there. We are concerned about the transportation(how long it takes to get to the parks from there), size of the bathroom(toilet looks like it is in a small area), the resturants, how the transportation is to Downtown Disney on the boat and the atmosphere there.

We want to stay there because we would of had to split our reservation at the All Star Sports and because the Port Orleans room are bigger and we are biggg people. hehe

We live in Louisiana and love New Orleans.

My DH and I stayed at Dixie Landing (which I believe is now POR, but I could be wrong) in January of 2001 and we loved it. The resort is very well themed and planned out. We found the grounds to be very well kept and relaxing. We saw little brown bunnies every night as we walked back to our room. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms, while on the small side, were just fine for the two of us. We have also stayed at the BWV and didn't find the bathroom in the studio to be any bigger than the one at PO. The food court has quite a few offerings, and Boatwrights seemed to be nice (we never ate there). The boat to DTD was awesome! Very relaxing and convenient. It was not running the first night we were there due to inclement weather (it was freezing) but by the second night it had warmed up and the boats were running on a normal shedule. I love PO and I know you will too! Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

We've stayed in POR twice and really liked it both times. We stayed in Mansions. Sister in law has stayed in the bayou.

The food court is great, lots of variety and we loved the lounge and the restraunt.

The theming is great. Ask for room close to one of the bus stops. There are 4 bus stops plus the stop at FQ. This is no big deal.

Enjoy!:D

Hey Mickey Lover where did you get that great picture? I love it..... Pooh as a snowman ..It's great..........

We have stayed in Magnolia Terrace and in AB. Prefer Magnolia Terrace. It is a little more formal. We love the pools. Very nice grounds. The food court was fine. Yes, the toilet area is a little small. But, realistically, how much time do you spend there, and how many people are you planning on having with you in there?!<VBG>. We did like the double sink area. That was very helpful. And the boat to DD was wonderful. When we were there last Nov the boat was not running and my dh felt a little gyped!! We would not hesitate to stay there again. However, my dd really wants to try something different on the next trip.

Don't care for Riverside at all. Many do but I think it is the least appealing moderate resort.

My DH and I have stayed at PO-Riverside (formerly Dixie-landings)several times before joining DVC (we now usually stay at OKW).

You will love it! I have stayed in all sections at least once except for Parterre Place and can tell you all are very nice. Alligator Bayou is alot more rustic though - much different from the rest of the mansion rooms. But just as nice.

The bathroom is small but there are double sinks outside the bathroom. You didn't say how many people you are going with. If it's just you and your spouse you may want to consider requesting a king bed room (they do have a few). The rooms are beautiful though.

As for the resturaunt,Boatwrights, it is still a favorite of ours! For both breakfast and dinner. The food court there is great too!
The pools are wonderful and at the moderate resorts you will notice that you have a hot tub at the main pool. They don't at the value resorts.

So have a great time and enjoy!!

There are 4 of us. Myself my spouse and 7 and 11 year old boys.

In that case, your boys will probably really enjoy the main pool area! It has a waterslide and there's a small playground nearby. They also have boats you can rent at the marina and pole fishing and you can rent bikes to ride around the resort. There's so much to do there that you could actually spend a day just hanging out at the resort and not miss being in the park!

I also forgot to mention -- we never had a problem with the bus service (and we never rented a car when we flew down from up north - only been in Fla. for a little over a year now) and you can also take a boat to Downtown Disney from PO-RI.

POR is our favorite resort. We've stayed there three times in the last year. My 8yo DD loves the pool area and the playground. It is well themed and has a good design. The pool is scheduled for rehab in January, but it is fine right now. There is a blockade up so you can't swim under a footbridge, but that didn't really affect our stay last month at all.

A big part of why we love POR is its wonderful staff. (I was beginning to take that for granted, so I wrote the Manager a "you've got a great staff" letter after our most recent visit. I also identified a couple of people who really went the distance. WDW called me and told me that they would make sure those staff people were rewarded.) Anyway, our mousekeeper always left little washcloth animals, stickers, etc. and would put sunglasses on my DD's doll (I know you won't have dolls, but it's still very cool).

You'll have a great time!

We stayed at POR - Riverside and enjoyed the grounds a lot, we weren't thrilled with our room in Parterre Place it was very much in need of refurbishment. However I would stay there again, there was nothing about the room that made it unbearable. The bathrooms are rather small basically the same size as All Stars I believe. Overall though the grounds are very nice, the themeing is great, and the food court had a very good selection. The boat ride to Downtown Disney is great it's much more relaxing than fighting all of the traffic to get out of the parking lot. We didn't try out the pool so I can't tell you about that but I do think that you would probably enjoy POR more than All Stars.
