We can't get the DDP, correct?

We planned a last minute weekend for Dec 10th and 11th and was only able to get a studio at SSR for the 11th. I waitlisted for the 10th and then called CRO and am paying cash for the same SSR studio on the 10th. I added DDp for the night I booked through MS but we're not eligible for the other night, right??? :guilty:

That's correct. You can get the DDP for the night you are staying on points, but not for the cash night.

Although you cannot get the DDP for nights booked with cash through CRO, you can get DDP for cash reservations booked through DVC. :cheer2:

If you have the DDE card use it.

Also, your DDP credits expire at midnight on your checkout day - so it is conceivable to use them for lunch or dinner on the day you switch. (We've done this twice). I suggest looking at the dining dicounts in your portable perks and choosing one restaurant where you can use a DVC discount (or AP discount if you have AP's) and then using the DDP credits for the remainder of your meals.

On one of our trips last year we checked out of our resort with DDP and moved to the Swan for the last night. On our last day, we used a 20% discount to eat at Chefs De France for lunch and DDP credits to eat dinner at San Angel.

My son and his family are staying at a studio for three nights with our points, but under his name. My wife and I have a studio under my name, but we are not intending to purchase DDP as we prefer the DDE. Can his family purchase DDP for the three days?

I believe that he could add the DDP. Also... if you are all eating together... your DDE card is good for up to 10 people.

I think it will depend on whether you have one ressie for two rooms, or two ressies for one room each. If you have two seperate ressies, there is no question that he can get it and you can pass. However, if the two rooms are on the same ressie, you may have problems.

The only way to tell for sure is to call MS and ask.

I didn't think that was possible. Thanks for the tip. I assume that MS can split it into two reservations if necessary.

OT: I just computed our meal expenses for our recent trip. This was a quick five day trip, four of which were at DVC. Our meals and snacks (including tips) for those 4 days came to $405.44 for 3 adults using our DDE card. The DDP would have cost us about $444. I seem to have a missing charge for dinner at Raglan Road... so DDE should have cost a just a bit more than DDP. Maybe that will show up later.

The DDP would have given us 4TS, 4 CS, 4snacks. Instead, two of us ate at 7TS, 1CS, 4SN. One person ate 6TS, 2CS, 4SN. At least one of the restuarants (Brown Derby) would have taken 2 TS credits.
With the DDP we would have overeaten at each meal with appitizer/entree/dessert. Instead... we generally did not overeat... except for the times we went to buffets (Boma and Trails End). We really felt better eating smaller amounts during most of our meals.

The restaurants we visited during the DVC portion of this trip (and included in the totals above) are: Rose and Crown (L), Kona Cafe (D) (O'hanas was evacuated), Sci-Fi Restaurant (L), Hollywood Brown Derby (D), Pinochios (L), Raglan Road (D), Trails End (L), Nine Dragons (D). In addition... our daughter did not go to the MGM Sci-Fi, but went to the MGM commissary instead. We ate breafast in our condo every morning (bacon and eggs).

On the night prior to our DVC trip we stayed at AKL for cash, and ate at Bomas. I did not include this in the calculations since it would not have been on the meal plan.

Bottom line is that we ate at more TS restaurants than the DDP would have covered... we ate smaller meals which matches our desires better... and we saved money by using DDE. If one of the meals had not failed to be charged... we would have spent just a tad more for DDE... but it still would have been a better deal (for us) than DDP.

If you are the type who want to eat a lot at every meal (appitizer/entree/dessert)... then DDP can be a better choice... providing that you are OK eating counter service meals other times.

Actually, probably not. To do that, they would first have to cancel the existing reservation and rebook. If there is anyone on waitlist (and there almost certainly is), your cancellation would fill their waitlist.

As a practical matter, at this point it probably is what it is...you just have to call and see.

That is our situation almost exactly. I am on somewhat of a calorie restriction, ad can't eat huge meals. The DDE definatley works better for us than the DDP. I've added up all our dining for the last two trips, and the DDE saved us a few hundred $$ (including tips) over what the DDP would have cost us.

It really depends upon you individual eating habits as to whether the DDP is a good deal for you.

BTW, I've had ressies for two studios often, and they have always had different ressie numbers.

Separate units are always separate reservations. So yes you can get the DDP for one unit and not for the other, period. This is the perfect situation to get the DDP as you can share some of the appetizers and deserts.
