We Came. We Saw. We Ate Deluxe! Updated - Cape May Cafe - Breakfast

I'm sorry to hear your BOG experience wasn't that great. Some of it sounds like kinks that any new business might experience, so hopefully they work that out. I can't help it though-your review makes me want to go! I would just love to see the inside of this place and also to try the shrimp and scallops. That is right up my alley, although I'd like it to be served hot. Maybe by May they will have things figured out...

Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!

Thanks for the great updates! Sorry to hear BOG was a let down :( Perhaps for QS next time? I've heard some people are preferring that- was great to read your dinner review tho!

Your reviews are wonderful! Your pics are great and I love that you include whether or not you would pay OOP for the meal. I can't wait to read more!

Love your review so far and great pics! I'm getting so hungry just reading it. Can't wait to read more.

Really enjoying your reviews and you take great photos! Sorry your experience at BOG wasn't the greatest, it sounds like they still have some wrinkles to iron out.

Looking forward to more! :goodvibes

Cool, I can't wait to here what you thought of BOG, it was hands down one of the highlights of our entire last trip.
We were hoping it was going to be our highlight of our trip too. We were disappointed. Just an off night I think.

Can't wait to read more! We love BC too, but we've never made it to Beaches and Cream. It is high priority for our next trip. Those banana splits are calling me name! :yay:

I just love the proximity of BC to Epcot WS. So nice that you scored a free upgrade to a lagoon view!
Yes you must try Beaches & Cream. We never did get any ice cream. I must go back and try a No Way Jose Sundae - peanut butter and hot fudge! Yummo.

Count me in! Great reviews so far.
Thanks. Hope you enjoy it!

Looking forward to your reviews!
Glad you joined in. Lots of pictures to come.

Great pics...keep em coming. Sorry to hear about those dinners cause they looked so good and I was thinking i might have to have the scallops with the puff pastry for my spring break trip. I hope It is served HoT!!...Gosh I am a sucker for a puff pastry:lmao:
Kerri
Yeah they looked great that's for sure! And the pastry part was very good. I'm sure even by the end of the night, they had the heat up in the kitchen. ;) Ha-ha!

Oh you should go! I would never deter anyone form trying it out. I'll go back. Being on the dinning plan it didn't hit ya quite as hard, ya know what I mean? I am just really glad it was only 1 credit! And I am really glad I didn't pay OOP for it. ha-ha

Thanks. Yeah, I would really like to try the quick serve option. Even just to see the other dinning areas.

Your reviews are wonderful! Your pics are great and I love that you include whether or not you would pay OOP for the meal. I can't wait to read more!
Thanks!! This is really my first review so I was kind of hesitant to do it! I am so glad people are enjoying it. And my pictures ... that's just luck! LOL!

Love your review so far and great pics! I'm getting so hungry just reading it. Can't wait to read more.
Thanks for joining in! Yeah looking through all the pictures while I do this, I can still taste how good they were! LOL!

Really enjoying your reviews and you take great photos! Sorry your experience at BOG wasn't the greatest, it sounds like they still have some wrinkles to iron out.

Thanks so much. Yeah every restaurant will have their wrinkles. I also think right in all the parks (every area), staffing is low. Of course it's the slow season so I am sure they let people go, but it seemed like they were under staffed. Like maybe a number of people called off sick and they were scrambling or something. It is flu season so you never know! Hope you enjoy the rest of my reviews. =)

This is one of those places after reading about on the boards I really wanted to try out. At first I wasn’t interested in going there for breakfast and had originally booked a lunch. After several changes of plans, we settled for going there for breakfast. As I said in my intro, we just like to try and get to as many new places as we can, so breakfast was fine with us. :) Staying at Beach Club allowed us to walk through England and Canada before everything was open. Great time to take a few pictures … except when you forget to put the battery in your camera. So I had to rely on my iPhone. Whoops. Ha-ha

Our reservation was for 8:20 we checked in at 8:18 and were called within minutes. For those who haven’t been there before, you stand in line before you are seated to get your picture taken with Belle. From there you are seated and you wait for the server to come and take your drink order. This meal is a combination of a buffet (cold items: yogurt, fruits and fish & pastry items and bagels) and a plate of hot food served family style.

The buffet items were all very fresh. I love Disney breakfast buffets because I can eat a bagel with salmon and cream cheese. This is by far the best I have had during any of my trips to WDW. They had different flavored cream cheese …OMG. And the capers … WOW! Ok so most people probably don’t even like that but if you do, this is the place for it. Ha-ha
IMG_1093_zpse686ef9c.jpg

The hot plate you are served has scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and potato casserole. Everything was very hot and tasted great. The character interaction here was great too. The princess’ stopped at our table briefly for a quick picture and didn’t linger. Watching their interactions with the children you could tell that everyone was very happy. :cloud9:

Akershus was a hit with us! We really were surprised how much we enjoyed this experience. We’ve eaten at O’hana for breakfast, which is served family style as well, and Akershus was much better. No where near as chaotic and the food was better.

Taking the food, the service and environment into consideration we gave Akershus a 9. Our bill was $80.92 without tip. At this point I would pay OOP for this meal. Although… I still think that is expensive. But I look at it this way, you also get the 6x8 and 4 – 4X6 photos included with that. (And we all know how ridiculously priced Disney photopass system is!) So it is a great way to capture a memory on your trip. And also, it’s pretty much the only sit-down option for breakfast in Epcot and walking around before WS opens is awesome. =)

Wow, what a different experience between your BOG experience and ours. When we went, all thee rooms were open for dinner. (BTW, The West Wing and Ballroom are both supposed to be open for dinner). There were only two people in front of us when we went to check in. We were about 20 minutes early, but no problem, we were welcome to wait. We even got seated early.

I was actually amazed they were accepting walkups with about an hour wait. There was a separate line for walkups though.

This was on Jan. 4th, which was very busy in the Magic Kingdom. We were seated in the ballroom and truly had one of the best servers any of us have ever had anywhere, who even encouraged us to go and explore the other rooms after our meal.

Everyone loved everything they ordered. I had the steak and when at Disney, I always order Medium Rare, because that is truly what I like my steak to be and they usually get it right. In all honesty, it was one of the best steaks I have ever had.

The one complaint those that were paying OOP had was that originally desserts were originally listed as being included with dinner, but they didn't notice on the menu that they no longer are. DW and I were on the dinning plan, so it didn't matter to us.

Luckily there were birthdays in the group, so we even got to try the grey stuff (and it is delicious).

We got to meet Beast on the way out and he took LOTS of time with our group.

All in all, we spent about two and a half hours here, but that was by our choice.

I am not trying to compete with your review, I only mention this so that others know that this your experience isn't always the norm and to see the difference.

I am glad that you enjoyed Akershus at breakfast, we had lunch there this last time and we decided we like breakfast a lot more there.

Oh geez ... No worries. I am so glad you posted your experience. I agree people should see both sides. And I feel like this was just an off night for them. I mentioned this in another response, but it almost felt like they were understaffed and that's what lead to this result. I've eaten enough at Disney in the past to know when things aren't that way the are supposed be. And that's exactly how this felt. My Mom agreed. Things were a tick off ... definitely not the norm. :confused3:confused3
My best friend and her family were there from the Jan 2 - 6 and one of those nights got a walk up with no wait ... a family of 4 for dinner and they had the same experience as you.
That's why the dinning review forum is a great place to get serveral different points of view. Because I'm going to get "jumped" for my next review ... I can't beleive it myself ... stay tuned. :rotfl:

I can hardly wait to see your next review then. We did have a couple of experiences that were like that too.

So excited to try Akershus. We are doing it solely because I wanted to meet Belle in her gold gown.... But the potato casserole, salmon, bagels & flavored cream cheese all sound killer.:)

Thank you for sharing your reviews!
It was so nice of your mom to help the passenger on the plane, and I do believe in Karma~ so nice that things went smoothly for you and what an awesome resort upgrade that was!

I'm sorry Be Our Guest didn't live up to your expectations. I've had lunch there twice and dinner once and tried very hard to keep my expectations realistic. My DS had the steak with pomme frites and I tasted them and just stared at him with puppy dog eyes for the rest of dinner, lol. His steak was very good and the pomme frites were delicious! My pork was good, but not as good as his! I do have to say, we had awesome service. Lunch was very good for CS, if you have a chance to go back, definitely try it!

Did you meet with Beast after dinner? :cloud9:

Looking forward to more of your reviews, you have some of our well-liked experiences on your list!

Love, love, loving your reviews! Your photos are gorgeous and I love your commentary. I love traveling to WDW with my mom too. Glad you guys had such a magical trip.:goodvibes

I'm thinking we might go with lunch at BOG on our upcoming trip- dinner seems to get such inconsistent reviews and we will be paying OOP so we might go the "safe" route and eat lunch there just so we can experience the castle!

Your photos are making me want to go to Akershus! The cold buffet and breakfast potatoes look so delicious. I don't know if we'll be able to justify such an expensive breakfast though, especially when nobody in our party would be too excited to meet the princesses. But... YUM!

Can't wait to see your upcoming reviews. Gotta go start putting dinner together now, I'm hungry!!

We must be clones because those were my favorite items of this meal. The dill cream cheese and lodenberry cream cheese were amazing with the salmon. Enjoy! =)

I want to eat at Akershus now too!
You should give it a try. We are glad we did. =)

Thanks so much! I was so afraid I was rambling too much. (Maybe I am! Can't help myself. ha-ha) Yeah paying OOP always makes things a little more tricky. Good Luck. ANd maybe for Akershus you could check out the lunch menu because I am pretty sure the buffet is offered for all meals. Thanks for following and commenting! =)

Reading about Coral Reef on the boards, the consensus seems to be negative although I have been getting the impression things were looking up for this place so we decided to give it a try. Being on DxDDP we like to do a sit down for our meals and when you're in Future World this is the only option … logistically it doesn’t make sense to go to WS showcase to eat lunch only to walk back and finish up things we hadn’t gotten to then walk back to Beach Club … I’m not lazy, but every step is precious during a week at Disney! :rotfl2:
2:00 was our reservation time, but we finished at The Seas around 1:00 and went to see if we could be seated early. Not a problem at all. We waited less the 5 minutes and were seated at a table for 2 at beside the aquarium. I love fish so I have to say, I was so excited!
Our server came to the table, reviewed the menu with us and went to get our drinks and a basket of warm soft rolls. We had a few questions and she answered them fabulously.

Appetizers
Field Greens and Endive Salad - with pears, goat cheese, spiced walnuts, and cranberry vinaigrette
Creamy Lobster Soup - tarragon and brandy
IMG_1150_zps49635aac.jpg

IMG_1151_zpsaeb90034.jpg

My Mom absolutely loved this salad. She said the blend of all the different ingredients was the perfect balance to each other. The vinaigrette was the factor that just set-it all off. I really enjoyed the creamy lobster soup. It was served piping hit and was great with the rolls. I was pleasantly surprised by this soup because I was expecting it to be too salty and thick like so many creamy soups can be.

Entrees
Grilled Mahi Mahi - with Laughing Bird Shrimp, Hearts of Palm, Jasmine Rice, Cilantro, and a Coconut-Lime Sauce
Grilled New York Strip Steak - served with Roasted Potatoes, Mushrooms, Spinach, and Red Wine Sauce

One thing I have learned over the years of dinning at WDW is that the chef’s pair what we may think as “weird” flavors together for a reason … because they are amazing. And that they are meant to be eaten together, not separately. Not a taste of the rice, then the fish (or whatever you may be eating). You have to eat a little bit of each item together in one bite to get the full effect of the flavors. That’s exactly how this Mahi Mahi is to be eaten; a little bit of everything on your fork at one time, and don’t forget a dab of the coconut-lime sauce. This dish was amazing and damn-it, it wasn’t mine! And my Mom wasn’t sharing any more. Can’t say I blame her because I did the same thing to her during our last trip at Hollywood Brown Derby. :rotfl: The photo doesn’t do it justice. And the steak was just as outstanding. The roasted potatoes, mushroom and spinach with the red wine sauce was outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly and hot and juicy. I could go on and on about this meal but I think you get the point. ;) On to dessert. Ha-ha.

Dessert:
Classic Vanilla Crème Brûlée
Baileys and Jack Daniel's Mousse
All I can say is that these were both great as well. The top of the Brulee was hot because it had just been prepared. The Baileys and Jack Daniel’s Mousse was nice and smooth. Nothing over powering.

Taking the food, the service and environment into consideration we gave Coral Reef a 9.5. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable meal. Our bill was $103.22 without tip. At this point I would pay OOP for this meal. However let me add this … If I were paying out of pocket, I wouldn’t order an $8 dessert (anywhere!!) and maybe not even the appetizer. The Mahi Mahi was $24.99 and the Steak was $32.99 both so worth paying OOP for and so worth a table service credit on the dinning plan. I know what you are all thinking … “This girl is making this up!” Trust me I was shocked too but so glad I was proven wrong.

I'm so happy to read that you had a great experience at Coral Reef! We are keeping our ressie for this restaurant in May. I think DP will love the mahi and I've got my eye on something else. It does seem like overall the reviews are improving...

When you say family style....Does that mean the plate of eggs/bacon etc was for more than 1 person?
Thanks
Kerri
