We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

White Water Rafting
Scuba Diving (meet Nemo!)
Dancing with Wonder Fleagle
Riding all the Mountains of WDW
Trapeze (maybe over Niagra?)
Zip Line (think Tinkerbell)

How's that for a list?

Note: this is the same info I posted on Adventurosity thread!

How about I ride out Hurricane Ike? :rotfl:

Seriously, for those of you watching Hurricane Ike, my little area of east Texas may get some bad weather. Normally, we are the place people evaucuate TO, and though we have some evacuees, this time they are telling people to go to San Antonio, and even Dallas!

We will get lots of rain, and high winds, so there is a chance we might lose power, water, etc. I've done all my girl scout preparedness, so Bailey (cat) and I (Cat) should do just fine.

I'll try to post as long as I have power - so no worries - okay?

Hold on tight Cat! It looks like you're in for a bumpy ride! :scared: I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks, Brad. I just keep thinking of the signs at Splash Mountain..."You WILL get wet!" or something like that.

I am trying to teach Bailey how to hold up his front paws, so if we take a big plunge, our photo will look good! :rotfl:

I hope everything is okay with you Cat, and all other Texans!

If the tour bus wants to get moving I can go ahead and welcome you guys to California, and then if the Washington crowd is able to pop back in later we can head back up. I think Circus girl might be out of town, and I know Mr. and Mrs. Autopia have a lot going on right now. Let me know if I should hop in- you guys are welcome to pull into California tomorrow if necessary!

Things are fine with me - I was very, very lucky.

As far as the tour goes, my vote is "Go for it!"

If you are ready and willing, I say we'd love to get a taste of California before heading back up the coast. And Circusgirl will probably appreciate having some time after she gets back before she needs to do her part.

California, here we come! :yay:

Welcome to California DISers! I am happy to welcome you to Folsom!

We are a small old gold rush town outside Sacramento, but over the last ten years it has been booming and now we are a growing suburb with lots of new houses and shopping (a little too much shopping). My husband and I just moved here three years ago (we grew up just north of San Francisco), so we are still getting to know the area as well, but we already love it.

So let’s start with a big breakfast to fill you up for some sightseeing!

Welcome to Balcony Bistro! This is one of our favorite little breakfast spots in Old Folsom.

Blueberry pancakes or eggs benedict anyone?

Now that we all have full stomachs well look around Old Folsom - this is the last unique area of town with lots of antique shops, gifts shops and dining. It is where we have our Farmer’s Market and lots of our town events.

So feel free to shop around...and if you are feeling lucky, you can learn how to pan for gold at one of our museums here, and then head over to river to try your luck!

Let me know if anyone strikes it rich and I'll check back in with you at lunch time!

Ooooooh! Beautiful! You've already got me interested!

Every year the Tour of California, a 1 week Professional Bike Race is held in February. It usually starts up in the Sacromento area, and I'm hoping this year I can come for a day or two of the race. While I'm there, this would be a nice place to visit!

So now that we have all had a relaxing morning, I’ll take you around to some of the other town sites. People here love to run, bike, hike and boat on the lake. We are lucky enough to have Folsom Lake, the American River and Lake Natoma all right here in town! So put on your Tevas and lets get going!

Summers days in Folsom usually range in the 90’s up to 110 degrees...but most of the time it feels like 110! Luckily today it is a perfect 88 degrees, so we’ll head over to the lakes and for those of you who would like to relax on the lake or river, feel free to float away....

and for those of you ready for some action, you can rent canoes, kayaks, sailboats etc. from the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

If anyone would be willing to throw the ball in the river for our dog Koda, he would be thrilled....but feel free to stop at anytime because he could play all day!

Before heading out of town to see some other sites, I guess I have to show you guys the one spot that I think Folsom is most well known for- Johnny Cash’s visit to Folsom Prison and his song “Folsom Prison Blues.”

A picture from that performance (they also had a special showing for the prisoners when the movie Walk the Line came out).

I have never actually been to the prison, and it is hidden in town so that we often forget that it is there, but I hear that you can buy some nice artwork from the prisoners or pick up a special little souvenir- anyone need a California license plate? ;)

Haha, yes- February is probably the only bearable time to have a bike race in Sacramento! Downtown Sacramento has a great Old Town too...and of course you can always try for a sighting of our governator :rotfl: - but I would be happy to give you some tips if you come to town!

Eggs Benedict, please!

Ok, I'll toss a ball or three or 20 for Kodo!!

Hmm, we are in the process of redecorating ... maybe I can get something from the prison!? :lmao:

Hey road-trippers!!
So sorry I havent been involved for so long, I've had a seriously hectic life over the past few months!!! Good new's is I'm back and I'm caught up... to an extent, loving all the places we've gone, it's given me loads of places to visit when I travel all the way round America in the summer!!
Bring on California! :thumbsup2

Well I hope everyone had a fun day! We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow as we are headed up to Lake Tahoe- one of the most beautiful spots in the world! No, I didn't get us rooms at the prison, we'll be staying at the Lake Natoma Inn, with a nice view of the river-

IMG_1329-1.jpg

So enjoy and I'll see you all in the morning!

Yay we're in California!!

I'm back from my wonderful hurricane free (well hurricanes all around but still great weather for us) cruise and we are all moved in in Newport, RI.

So whenever we want to take a detour back to Colorado Springs, I'm ready!! I'm not there now, but it's "home" and I know it like the back of my hand!:)

Glad to hear the cruise went well and you are settled into your new place!

Rise and shine! It looks like I let us sleep through yesterday, so now we have to catch up - Grab those hiking boots, put on your swim suits and tie the Kayaks to the top of the RV...we are headed to Lake Tahoe!

Luckily in Folsom we are just a little over an hour away from one of the most beautiful spots in the world. This is where we spend most of our summer weekends. So before it gets hot we’ll do a little hiking and then we can enjoy and afternoon swim. Since not everyone loves hiking, we’ll do a little choose your own adventure.

1. Commandos! For those of you looking to backpack on a serious hike with an amazing view of Lake Tahoe- you can follow my DH.

2. For those of you looking to spend the day on a moderate hike up to find several hidden gem lakes- you can follow me!

3. For those of you who enjoy a leisurely stroll, you can enjoy the views and wild flowers on the Taylor Creek trail.

Now let's get going!

Group 1:
I hope you’ve stretched! Let’s head out into Desolation Wilderness. Feel free to sing or clap your hands as you hike because this is definitely bear country...but luckily it's not grizzly bears!
CIMG4292.jpg

Here is some of your beautiful scenery...you will stumble upon little hidden lakes- feel free to fish or take a swim...
CIMG4336.jpg

CIMG4290.jpg

The view from the top!! I hope it was worth it because now you still have to go back down...
CIMG4358.jpg

Group 2:
I hope you’ve packed lots of water, because although this is an easier hike than Group 1...it is a LOT of uphill.
CIMG4112.jpg
IMG_1211.jpg

Here is our first stop- Eagle Lake. Yup that’s me down, by the log...and we have to let Koda swim again! So collect some sticks to throw.
IMG_0843-1.jpg
CIMG4153.jpg
CIMG4163.jpg

And the views from the top: the Velma Lakes- it is so quiet and peaceful up here!
IMG_1252.jpg
IMG_1248.jpg

DH found a nice little waterfall...do you want us to send you down in a barrel Cat? Looks a little rocky ;)
IMG_1246.jpg
IMG_1237.jpg

From the look out at the bottom of this trail we can even see the paddle boats cruising on the lake!

Oh, those pics from Groups 1 and 2 were absolutely amazing!!! Baby and I will stick to group 3 for now ;)

Group 3:
Welcome to the Taylor Creek trail! You don’t even have to leave the paved path for a great view here.
CIMG0504.jpg

And you can see fish right from the bridge. Koda will find them for us :)
CIMG4264.jpg

You can even go into the underwater viewing chamber to get a great view of the fish in the stream!

Now that we’ve all burned off some serious calories, I think we deserve a treat! I’ll take you all over to Camp Richardson to the Ice Cream Shop-
IMG_0889.jpg

Just so you know before you order- this is the SINGLE scoop (they used to call it the “baby”)!
IMG_0890.jpg

And for those of you who are starved, we can all get some sandwiches, snack and refreshments at the General Store.
IMG_0888.jpg

I'll let everyone take a little rest now and I'll check back in with you later for some more sightseeing and a swim in the lake!
