We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

Alright gang..... on our way to Cape Cod we are making a stop in Plymouth to see the Mayflower 2:

And Plymouth Rock, where the pilgirms first touched down:

Now here is the thing with Plymouth Rock.... I was expecting the HUGE rock... something that one would step on as they got off a ship.... but nope. It is really the size of a large rock that you might find in your backyard or something.... needless to say I had mixed emotions the first time I saw it.

Anyway..... on to Cape Cod!

CapeCodAerial1.jpg

Our first stop is in Onset, which is considered to be the "gateway to Cape Cod" as it is just before both bridges that get you over to the Cape. Why are we stopping here you ask? For a late breakfast at my favorite coffee place... Cup of the Bay! They have some of the BEST iced coffee flavors... check it out: Cup of the Bay

So I actually have a special surprise for everyone.... Cape Cod is one of those places that is best explored on its own.... so you can find the hidden gems and quiet places. I've arranged for everyone to have their own Mini Cooper convertibles:

Feel free to car pool if you want.... you will find a map of the Cape in the glove compartment. But here are some highlights that shouldn't be missed.

Hyannis:

New Seabury:

and Provincetown:

Be sure to try some clam chowder and here is more info on the Cape: Cape Cod

Phew.... this is a lot of touring. Sadly I have to run a few errands today... but I will be back later to take a tour of Boston and a few other surprises.

DisGeeks (both of you) -- wonderful job!!! I'm already excited to visit Brookside this Christmas and Glen Echo Park.

Great! :teeth: (And, thanks!)

Let us know when you plan to make the trek to the other bank of the Potomac! Maybe we could plan to meet you! :thumbsup2

Now that we have re-grouped after lunch we are headed to Roger Williams Park & Zoo.... a great zoo located just outside of Providence.

Roger Williams Park & Zoo

You can walk the grounds of the park, go visit the animals at the zoo, or rent a swan paddle boat and ride around on the lake.

Ooooh! 'Love the gazebo and the swan paddle boats on the zoo grounds. Very nice!

Headed back into Providence as the sun starts to set, we head back to Waterplace Park to enjoy a treat as tonight is Waterfire! What is Waterfire you ask? On select nights during the year they light fires in floating cauldrons all along the river, there are performances by local artists, food stands, and booths from local jewlery makers.

Waterfire sounds like a lot of fun! Great idea, HMFan! :thumbsup2

Can't say that I blame you! ;)

Cooooool! As a long-time convertible driver, I can't think of anything better than touring with the top down!

Having a fabulous time, so far! In fact, I've always wanted to live in the northeast, and you're making me want to move there! Just think, you could have your Aunt Cat just down the road! :rotfl:

Can't wait for the next part of the tour!

YES! :woohoo: How cool is that?!? :woohoo: You're the "bestest," HMFan! (Something tells me that the Autopia Family will really appreciate this plan...)

I'm off to find some lighthouses... I absolutely love lighthouses, and I hear that Cape Cod is a good place to find them! Lighthouses in Cape Cod

Hmmmmm.... 'Wonder if any have been converted to B&Bs for an overnight stay. Searching for Lighthouses that Offer Overnight Accommodations

What kind of convertible do you drive? Proud owner of a Beetle Convertible here!

I need to do the Brookside Gardens winter lights sometime. That sounds great. We have ones where you drive through but not where you can get out and walk. Thanks for the tip!

They're really neat -- although it can get pretty cold in December! :scared1:

A little helpful hint: Fortunately, one of the conservatories is set up with an elaborate miniature train display. (The kids love it, and it's a welcome break from the winter weather outside!) The Visitors Center also has a refreshment stand (read: Hot Chocolate!!) and regular musical performances. (That's another great place to disappear from the frigid night air!) :thumbsup2

I am loving this guys! Disgeeks and HMF thanks for showing us so much and I can't wait to see the rest. I enjoyed the "Life is a highway" video, haha appropriate song :thumbsup2 Tastee Diner and The Rue have made me virtually hungry ;)

HMF you are showing pictures of my new hometown!! I'm so excited!! We probably won't get to Newport until September, but I love seeing pictures from there!!

And you're really speaking to my heart when you show the malls in Providence!!

Thanks for all the great pics!!

HMF -- very cool!

I've never seen Plymouth Rock so I thought it was going to be a boulder on the edge of the water!!

I love the zoo and the Swan Boats -- that sounds great and the gondola ride was good too!

My Mini-cooper was really cool! I'd never driven in one before and didn't know what to expect. Thanks!

Cape Cod looks great. I have never been there before.

Can't wait for more!

Newport is great.... you will love it!

Well I hope everyone enjoyed the whirlwind tour of Providence and Cape Cod... we are pulling into Boston and I've arranged for everyone to stay at the Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge for the night: Hotel Marlowe

It is a funky botique hotel.... try Bambara, the in-house restaurant for dinner. Or the Cheesecake Factory is just around the corner. Now I made sure to get everyone a water view room.... so you can see the Charles River and downtown Boston from your rooms.
