Can't wait to hear more!:)

Welcome everyone!!!

Remember what I was saying about the lovely weather? Yeah, we have blinds in our room. Not so much :rotfl:

Today is rainy and drizzly and then just gloomy, but the temps are low to mid 70's and nothing is stopping us! We spent the morning at DHS and then had some lunch and are back for a while to veg in the hottub and get my reviews done before setting out for the evening. So let's get the show started!

(Written last night)

So we got in last night and finally settled in the hotel at 2:00AM EST. Had to wind down and finally got to sleep. So this morning we slept in a bit, unpacked and explored the resort . By the time we left, we were starving so we set the GPS to Bubbalou’s Bodacious BBQ and head out for some food!

DS and I found a great seat out in the covered outdoor area while DH ordered a big sampling of food. We ended up with a two meat platter of chicken and ribs, a brisket plate, deep fried pickles and ranch and a slice of sweet potato pie.

So what did we think? We like the brisket. It’s very smoky and good, but I still like DH’s better. The fries are my favorite kind – the crinkle cut – and I still like the baked beans. They are very sweet and tasty and I usually hate baked beans. The butter toast is a good combo with the meat and the different BBQ sauces. DS ate 3 ½ of the 4 slices we got.

P4172678Medium.jpg

The ribs were very good – slid right off the bones. The portion had one small, one medium and one very large rib. The chicken was a leg quarter and was my favorite – the skin was almost crispy which you can’t get by just smoking it.

Both meals came with coleslaw, which was pretty good.

The deep fried pickles. Oh….wow. Yes, greasy-ish, but very crispy, light tasting and perfect with the ranch. We love deep fried dill pickles at home and I would go back to BBBBQ solely for these.

P4172684Medium.jpg

The sweet potato pie? We have never had this and have always wanted to try. We all LOVE pumpkin and this…was…not pumpkin. Very cinnamony taste, which I loved. But the consistency was like paste. Pumpkin has a looser custard texture but this was like solid peanut butter? We have absolutely no idea if this is normal for sweet potato pie or just the BBBBQ take on it. Can anyone help me here?

To drink – DH and DS had a ginormous coke and I had an ice water.

P4172672Medium.jpg

It was a fun first meal, we enjoyed it a lot and feel all set for WDW!

Later in the afternoon, we stopped at the character outlet to see what was there (some great deals!) and the Coach outlet for me to drool (gorgeous spring and summer colors!). DH decided we couldn’t be that close to a Mrs. Fields without stopping in. We bought the “buy 3, get 1 free” and brought them back to the room.

DS: sprinkle cookie (liked very much)
DH: milk chocolate macadamia nut (loves)
Me: toffee (meh
Share: snickerdoodle (okay)

This was a nice snack to have before swimming this afternoon.l

Romano’s Macaroni Grill

We usually love this place and last year I had the Best Pick Your Own Pasta Ever. This year the choices were a LOT narrower. DH and I ended up ordering almost the same thing – penne/spaghetti with Bolognese/arrabiata, roasted garlic, meatballs, sausage and (me) sundried tomatoes.

First we started with the olive oil, their rosemary bread and a dish of marinated olives and roasted peppers (bread and oil come with meal, olives were $3.99)

P4172725Medium.jpg

This was AWESOME!! I love olives and added them to the bread with the peppers. I also added some to my side Caesar salad later and they were amazing. There had to be at least 4 different kinds.

DH and I both got a side Caesar and they were both very good – DS tried one for the first time and didn’t care for the dressing. There is a bit stronger anchovy taste than other dressings and I think this was his problem.

P4172729Medium.jpg

For the entrée, DS chose the spaghetti and meatball. He grabbed my camera and snapped this photo as quick as he could “so I can start eating already mom!” He loved it and ate about 1 ½ meatballs from DH and from me too.

P4172731Medium.jpg

DH and I knew we over ordered but the plan was to take leftovers back to the room to microwave later if we wanted. Yeah…didn’t happen.

Mine (sortof)

DH’s (sortof)

DH ended up with my Bolognese sauce and I got his arrabiata. We figured this out when his wasn’t spicy and mine was. So we traded. In both dishes the roasted garlic was burnt in places and the sausage was almost burnt as well. It was definitely overcooked. Had it been in a bowl with a side of some nice horseradish mustard it would have been delicious, but in a pasta sauce it was just overcooked.

The meatballs were awesome as always and so we just ate what we liked and let it go at that. Plenty was leftover but we didn’t take any back “home”.

Will we go back? Definitely! Will we order something different? Probably. The pastas were pretty heavy.

We spent the rest of the night at DTD and were going to get a Ghirardelli, but the whole DTD was packed so we decided to get a dessert/treat back at the resort. DS opted for a green buttercream cupcake, which he loved. I tasted the frosting and it was a nice buttercream and didn’t taste like Crisco (bonus!).

P4172744.jpg

DH and I? Well…isn’t it the law to get these at least once?

P4172746.jpg

We had to work around the escaping pockets of steam, but these were really good. Chewy and sweet and hot and a nice occasional treat but definitely not a frequent thing. And we did really well with the powdered sugar. Sure, the shirts we had on are headed for the laundry but it was worth it.

All in all, it was a day filled with a LOT of really good food. One more day tomorrow with no DDP and then the food fest really gets started.

If you have any questions, let me know!

This morning we hit DHS and had breakfast at Starring Rolls. I am sad to admit that we left the memory card for the camera back in the room so I was limited to the space on the camera (like 10 photos). Unfortunately we don't have the cable to get them on the computer so I'll add them when we get home.

What did we have?

DS had a large chocolate chip cookie, chocolate milk and an orange. Yes - I let him have a cookie. Sigh. But he did have fruit (justifying.....:rolleyes1). He was very happy with his breakfast.

DH and I split a strawberry parfait - strawberries in sauce, vanilla pudding/custard and whipped cream. It was pretty good. Then we also shared a cinnamon roll. WOW! Very soft and delicious - I usually steal the centers but DH preempted me and cut it in half (snot). However, the WHOLE thing was soft and gooey, so it was like one huge cinnamon roll middle (it was the fill size of those dessert plates) that it didn't matter.

I also had a ridiculously expensiveand very tiny mocha, but it was actually very, very good so I was okay with it.

Photos to come when we get home...

Oh! And DS and I saw the infamous Butterfinger cupcake. O. M. G. I knew it was big but in real life??? Holy buckets!!! It has to be like 6-7 inches tall! He asked for it so I was actually pretty lucky he ended up with a huge cookie instead of a cup of frosting...

Naturally we shall be returning for either that or a marble one once we have a bazillion snack credits. A cupcake for $4? Yeah, this one I can understand!

After a morning and early afternoon at DHS, we left and went to Sweet Tomatoes at the Crossroads for lunch. A new favorite of mine from last May!

We started with salads: asiago caesar salad, spinach salad, a teriyaki pasta salad, potato salad, and I made my own with romaine, feta (YUM!), chick peas, jicama, cucumbers, peas, and garlic dressing.

DS made his own veggie salad:

DH also started with chili:

I had some of this later with cheese and it was really good.

I started with cream of broccoli which was ick:

DSC_0066Medium.jpg

We also tried the chicken noodle:

DSC_0069Medium.jpg

We all had strawberry lemonade for drinks - this is AMAZING!!!

DSC_0061Medium.jpg

Each of us had a baked potato - DH and I had the works and DS had one with just butter:

DSC_0070Medium.jpg

DH had some pizza sticks:

DSC_0068Medium.jpg

I also had a small plate of mac and cheese - so good!

For dessert, I had some sugar free lemon mousse and a lemon mini muffin - neither of them were very good - the muffin was underdone and the mousse tasted like artifical sweetener. I don't mind sf stuff unless it tastes fakish.

All in all, we like this restaurant very much - tons of options, you can have a little of this and a little of that and the service is very good. It's bright and open and just a pleasure to visit.

So of course now it's pouring and the boys are back from the hot tub to relax and put a movie on for a while. It will be a VERY late night and thunderstorms make great partners for relaxing in the afternoon.

Tonight sounds like a crabby evening for us - as in Joe's Crab Shack, DH's favorite. And then hopefully a very special MK treat later.

And tomorrow? The begining of DDX dining. God help us...:rotfl:

Subscribing! My husband would have a stroke if I allowed our kids to have a cupcake for breakfast. We'll be heading to Starring Rolls for a mid-day snack :rolleyes1.

Wow! Thanks for all the updates! :goodvibes

I just had dinner 2 hours ago and now I am HUNGRY!!!!!!! again after all that yummy food!
You gave me tons of ideas for next February! Thank you and have a wonderful time at the MK tonight! (Remember that when you are there at midnight I am already up and getting out the door for work! :rotfl2:)

Nice updates! I think I want to try Sweet Tomatoes after seeing your pictures!!!

I can't wait to hear more! popcorn::

DS and I had a mommy and me trip in January to celebrate his 5th birthday. I can do any ride, anywhere with one exception. The teacups. DH does the teacups, Mommy pretends to take one for the team by sitting it out in order to get great photos of everyone enjoying themselves on the teacups. Problem is, DS loves the teacups, and in a weak moment, I thought "He's only 5. How fast can he possibly make those things go?" Famous last words.

It was relatively early in the morning, and by closing one eye, I could see three benches just ahead of us as we exited the ride. I aimed for the middle one, thinking that was the one most likely to be the real one. Turns out, it was next to an ice cream cart that was open. DS sat munching his Mickey bar as I sat huddled over, hoping the world would stop spinning. DH gave me heck when he found out what DS had just had for breakfast, but as I explained in my defense, I'd probably have let the kid shoot kamikazees at that moment if it meant he'd be still while I recovered :lmao:

OP, really enjoying this thread, sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time!

Great start to a dining review. Hope you have a great trip, thanks for sharing it with us!

Good Evening!!!!! I can't wait to see the photos from HS/Starring Rolls!!! Everything sounds delicious there. I want to go there soon. Spent 12 hours out and about today (6 of them driving back and forth to Muncie, IN). We could be over half way to Disney and our own live dining reviews!!!! :rotfl2: Oh well, I'll leave the real live report to YOU. :) Hope you close the park tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One more thing, have a Butterfinger Cupcake for all of us.
