We just returned from our 11/28-12/6 trip to the World. We were on the regular dining plan and it felt as if all we did was eat. We actually had a hard time using our snack credits because no one wanted snacks. We were a party of 11 but I don't know my cousin's family's opinions of the restaurants so I will just talk about my family's experience - we are me, dh, dd25, ds8 and dd5.
11/28 - Flame Tree BBQ and Kona Cafe
We arrive7d at AK around 1:00 and went straight to Flame Tree BBQ. I had the ribs and thought they were very good - I gave the beans to my cousin's dd2 and she ate them all. Dh and dd25 had the turkey sandwich and they much have been good because there wasn't a drop left. Ds8 and dd5 had the hot dogs. They both ended up frustrated with the buns that fell apart and they both ended up wearing ketshup the rest of the day on their shirts - but they ate the hot dogs. I had the key lime mousse, dh and dd25 had the chocolate mousse and ds8 and dd5 had chocolate chip cookies.
We left AK around 6 and headed for the Poly for our dinner at Kona. We had to wait around 30 minutes past our ADR but for a group of 11, I thought that was pretty good - dc's dh didn't agree. First we had to speak to the chef about allergies (latex). I had the pork chop and thought it was a bit dry, dh and dd25 both had the steak without the sauce and there wasn't anything left, ds8 had yet another hot dog and dd5 ordered the Mickey shaped ravioli - she didn't like it and they replaced it with the grilled chicken with pasta - minus the sauce. I had the chocolate fondue but was so stuffed from the meal that I couldn't really enjoy it, dd25 had the Kona Kone and the kids had the sundae, I'm not sure what dh had. My dc's dh left his cell phone on the table and it apparently was thrown in the laundry with the black napkins - he went back 3 times checking to see if it was found. They had him complete a form. He ordered a new phone from Verizon and it was shipped out the next day - Disney refunded his $50 replacement fee for the new phone.
11/29 - Sunshine Seasons and Coral Reef
Lunch was at Sunshine Seasons. I had the 1/2 chicken and shared it with my cousin's ds5 - he ate half of it. Dh and dd25 had the turkey sandwich. The kids both had the mini subs with turkey. No complaints on anything. Dessert was strawberry shortcake, chocolate brownie, rice krispie treat and cookies.
Dinner was at Coral Reef. We were sat at two tables on the 2nd tier and had a decent view of the tank - although the kids didn't seem interested in it. We had 2 separate servers and it caused a bit of confusion when it came bill time since the 2 families were mixed at both tables. The chef came to the table to discuss the latex allergies and came back to make sure we knew that they used latex gloves to do the laundry - this didn't seem to be a problem for either person. He told us that Disney no longer uses gloves in food preparation at all so we didn't speak to any other chefs after this. I believe we all had the steak except for the kids and they were very good. Ds8 got pizza and dd5 got grilled chicken. Desserts were creme brulee, sorbet, chocolate wave and the same sundaes for the kids - although this time they had plastic dolphin's sticking out of them.
11/30 - Riverside Mill and Cosmic Rays
After a morning at MK, we returned to POR and had a late lunch around 2:00 at Riverside Mill. Ds8 and I had pepperoni pizza - we both love the WDW pizza. Dd25 had the kids turkey pinwheel and dd5 ate her 8 piece chicken nuggets. Dh had the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was good. I don't really remember what desserts we had.
We went back to the MK in the late afternoon and had a very late dinner during EMH at Cosmic Rays. I was a little bummed because all of the lines were closed except the burger/hot dog line. Dh, ds8 and myself all had the double bacon cheeseburgers - I split mine with dd5. I'm not sure what dd25 had since it was completely gone before I got back from the line. I had been looking forward to the chicken/ribs combo but never did get it.
12/1 - Sci-Fi Dine In and 50's Prime Time Cafe
My dh and I went off on our own this morning while the kids slept in. The rest of the group met us just in time for our 11:10 ADR at Sci-Fi Dine In. I thought it was really dark in there and had a hard time reading the menu or seeing what I was eating. Dh and dd25 had some sort of sandwiches - probably turkey or chicken, I had the ribs, ds8 had the pizza and dd5 had a cheeseburger. No one ate much because we all downed milkshakes before the food arrived. The food was good, we just weren't very hungry.
Dinner was at 50's Prime Time Cafe and this was the best experience of the trip. We had Cooper as our Cousin and he was great. My ds8 asked for too many refills and was given 3 refills at one time and was told he would need rubber sheets for the night. My dh was scolded for eating too fast and my dd25 was scolded for putting her food on dh's plate. I was fed my carrots airplane style. Dh had the pork loin, I had the friend chicken, dd25 had the pot roast, ds8 had yet another hot dog and I'm not sure what dd5 had. Plates were cleaned and we had a blast. The kids asked all week if we could go back.
