We are sorry but you cant cook and even if you could! (Gingerbread house contest)

:lmao: I have to say for the record, I know this is a child's game after all, but...

it would have been fun to be part of the contest.

No hard feelings towards VMK or members. I understand why they limited the registration and why members would have been unwilling to share their experiences.

It just reminds me of dreams month when certain people had inside information. I don't think it brings out the best in VMKers.

I'm sorry I missed your questions regarding the contest registration. I've gone through it in the past myself. Every contest is set up different, so there really was no magic explanation anyone could have given you. It really is a 'wait and see' situation for everyone. The rules are always different.

As far as the 2000 limit, this has been in effect (I think) since the Everest ride competition. Back then, we had to keep the rides open throughout the event. Luckily, that isn't the case now. What has me feeling a bit put off is the 30 prize places. Those are terrible odds. Mules have registered, I'm sure, for the participation prizes. That's sad, but nothing can really be done to stop that.

Aengus has opened up a Dis contest, which was awesome of him to do. The prizes won't be what vmk will offer, but nobody knows what that would be anyway. LOL (Anyone remember those Blizzard Beach chairs?) I hope anyone who couldn't enter the vmk contest will enter the Dis contest. I would love to see the amazing talent we have here on the Dis!

I am truly sorry not everyone was given the opportunity to enter. With so many players on vmk and only 2000 openings, there are a lot of people who didn't get that chance.

I wont put myself in someone who was there to be able to register, because actually I would never have seen things like I saw them now, oh yes that is something great for me >_<'

I am sorry but you wont see my talent just because I dont feel like participating in the dis contest (I am sorry for aengus but I hope he can understand, if there were no VMK contest, I would have participate but now it is not the same and I never asked for it is krazypete's idea, hopefully there will be people to participate because I am not the only one in my case on this board)

oh and I love those chairs :rotfl:

And I did not even get a chance to compete this year!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes I missed out too because of me. I joined every competition on vmk that they have had. Everyone of them gave you at least a day to get yourself ready to sign up. This one came up suddenly.

Oh Well. Good luck to those that entered and those that may of entered a mule or two. :cool1: :cool1: (really not bitter)

I have spent the entire month collecting these gingerbread pieces for the house. Perhaps some of the kid disers could use some? I might be able to lend a heaping portion of gingerbread. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I truly hope you'll reconsider. I would love to see everyone's holiday rooms.
Another way to look at things is you or anyone else who didn't have the chance to enter vmk's contest will still have a chance at winning Best Guest Room. Anyone who did enter the vmk contest won't have their holiday entries open to the public. Just a thought. :)

Kasiks...hey I am really sorry to hear my friend wasn't able to get in.... I really feel bad for ya. I do think they could have handle this ...getting the information out a better way. And it is truly sad for any and all who did use any of their clones!! I never even gave it a thought as I wanted as many to be able to get in.

I wouldn't have even know if it hadn't been for my son Goofy_Bob who told me about it. Which Pumpkinqueen told him about the contest. I had just gotten off as I was trying to do the Jolly Quest (for my clones) and gave up on it as of the line for the Forecurt Castle to get in. So I wouldn't had known about it if it hadn't ben for family friends who let us know.

But my heart goes out to you...I can understand your feelings... espically since it was a dream of yours and then it happens. I do hope you will join the Dis one though.

I also did not make the registration after spending all my credits on gingerbread pieces, oh well. I do have an idea that maybe VMK would consider...how about a "round 2" Gingerbread contest that would be open only to us "losers"?

Actually, I have no problem with the disboarders, my problem is with the way VMK announced it .. I did last year space race well we had time to register like one week. I totally understand that hosts had a big job to do butis that so hard for VMK to be fair and let everyone the same chance to register even if there are limitations .. As for now, I dont even feel like going on VMK .. I mean I just hate that game and the way they announced that the registrations were opened.

Also, I did not mean that they should have opened the registrations at the opening of VMK, that was an example, I mean advertising a few days before which day and when the registrations would open would have been better in my opinion to be fair to every players.

That would have been better. I think a little bit of notice would have been nice so we knew what day to watch for it. I was over visiting with my parents and made them dinner yesterday, then when i got home i found out about the contest registration already being over. it felt like i was being punished for it.:sad1: i'd been waiting and waiting, borrowed pieces from my mom and spent way too many credits and now have this really awesome room that i couldn't enter :( but i'd like to send out a thanks to aengus for starting up the DIS competition!! it sounds like so much fun!

When the contest was announced yesterday there was a thread answering ALL kinds of questions.
If I had seen your question I def. would NOT have said "Wait and see"
Vetrans of VMK and Dis have just as much of a chance getting in, or not getting in to the contest just like everyone else.
VMK told us about 5 minutes before the registration opened that it was opening. If I had not been on at that particular time I would have missed out.
It was a chance thing that happened at the BUSIEST time of day on VMK.
Even with all the "Vetrans" here and our Mules (I didn't register Mules BTW) there is no way we were responsible for filling up 2000 spots in an hour.
Sorry it just isn't possible.
I KNOW some ppl HAD to register mules...and that is just SAD
Maybe one of you can give up your spot for someone who actually intends to compete and not just build a shack for the participation prize.

SORRY!! THIS WAS POSTED BY DISNEYCHICK74! DIDNT REALIZE HUBBY WAS STUILL LOGGED IN!

That's probably one of the most upsetting things is that a lot of us who didn't get in, didn't get in because people are greedy and want as many prizes as they can get their hands on :sad2:

I also did not make the registration after spending all my credits on gingerbread pieces, oh well. I do have an idea that maybe VMK would consider...how about a "round 2" Gingerbread contest that would be open only to us "losers"?

This sounds like a fun idea too! hey VMK, i think rickyratsmom has a good thing going here!;)

I am sorry to say I am also on the list of those disappointed. When I returned home from work this morning and checked out the Dis, I was unhappy to hear the registration had taken place last night.

Yesterday, I was working on my room some more which I had planned on entering. There was no mention about the registration to occur later in the day when I had checked the newsletter. Around the time I left to work my overnight shift, the newsletter was updated and then from what I have read, it was not long after that that the registration opened.

Had there been advance notice, I would have had someone attempt to register me. This was going to be my first VMK room competition. For those that don't know me, I have been playing for over a year and have maybe only missed playing 3 days the entire time I've been on. I also spend many hours playing because I truly enjoy the game. Missing out my first opportunity to be partake in a room competition because of the way it was done is a disappointment.

I wrote to VMK about this today. My suggestion to them was to have a submission header on the contact us page and have players enter their title just like the way the Push Trivia was set up. Then a program could randomly select 2000 players who would get a message sent to them in VMK if they were chosen. This would allow for more to be included in a registration and could bypass the problem of emails being blocked.

I saw many people missed out due to the small window of opportunity to sign up who were looking forward to this just as much as I was (kids who were doing their homework, families having dinner, those with other commitments at that time, kids who play sports or in afterschool activities, people in other time zones, those working, etc). It would also have let those with titles over the maximum number of letters be able to be included, too.

From what I have seen in the past, VMK learns from its mistakes and works on improving them in future events. They also listen to our suggestions and use them often. The game is a work in progress. Hopefully, VMK won't repeat a registration for special events in this manner again.

If it were not for APiratesLife4Me, I would have no way of knowing about the contest. There really was no inside information on this one. In fact, if you were lucky enough to be reding the boards, that was your "inside information". Word of mouth got out there quickly, as people told friends who may not have heard the news.

The problem is the limit VMK put on registering. I can totally understand the 2000 limit, as the hosts were so over worked during the last competition. Lord knows how many people participated in that one. Plus, the hosts had to try and finish over the course of a weekend!

I do feel bad for those who were not able to register. Unfortunately, you can't predict the moves of VMK.

Yesterday, I am sure that some people registered mules to be able to get more than one participation prize, and some real people who put time and heart into willing to participate are left on the corner because of the way the registrations were made.

First off , I am sorry that you (and many many others!) missed the registration. It could have been done differently, that I am sure of. It certainly does not make sense that one person should be allowed to register themselves and their horde of mules while another person does not get to register at all.

I would just like to ask WHERE exactly does it say there will be a participation prize? Of course we can assume because there was last time, but, knowing VMK anything is possible. [I mean apart from the purple flag you will get once your room is judged.. but chances are(judging from previous events) that this will not be tradeable lol]

Frankly, when I saw that I was out due to VMK unfairness, I stopped to read the newsletter so I assumed it, there are no participation prize written ok but last time there was one, so why would someone not register a mule to maybe get a participation prize O_o also like someother ppl have said why would someone not register mules to prevent other from participating..

It does make sense that someone would register with a horde of mules like you have said and I am sure that some did it ..

Also, I know that sadly many many others did not get to register that is why I wrote this post .. but anyway VMK doesnt even care because the customer service didn't even reply to the message I sent them today ...

This is a great idea!

...I was told just to wait and see. I thought it was rather rude of veteran players not to explain past aspects of the contest. No one was willing to tell me anything. I wondered what was so top secret that they couldn't share how the ride contest worked, for an example.

Well, I found out yesterday.

Of course this put them at an advantage. I would have checked the homepage daily, if I knew that there would be a registration process. No one wanted to pass along that a limited number of players would get to participate. The only reply I ever received from my posts were a "wait and find out". :confused3 Not very friendly, imho.

...No hard feelings towards VMK or members. I understand...why members would have been unwilling to share their experiences.

I have waited to post this for a few days, but each time I read it, I have the same reaction, so I am replying now.

I think it is very harsh to accuse long-time players of intentionally holding information to get an advantage. People here on DIS are so very helpful and willing to offer information with others here. I am very sorry that you missed the registration, but to accuse others here is just not right.

I have played VMK for 2 years, I have participated in 2 ride contests. I had no clue when they would allow us to register or that they would limit the number of participants. VMK does things differently every time.

I truly hope that anyone here that believes others intentionally withheld information from others to get an "edge" understands that no one knew anything. That's how VMK works.

As for people here holding info from others, I would really like to share how I knew registration was open and when to go register: I read it on DIS.

OOPs I missed the registration too- I built a house- the day before the registration and completely forgot to register it...

I'll have to look for a DIS contest since in the building I tore down a few rooms trying to decide which room was best to build in... lol

Oh well- as an experienced player- who was aware they were limiting from when I found out about the contest- I goofed on my own lol - wow 2000 registrations in an hour- I probably would have missed it even if I had tried to register "on time"

I hope those participating share information so we can support you during judging and maybe those not in the VMK contest can all do the DIS contest...

Unfortunately, I believe this was where the problem started dreams

I still think it was the right advice, but I am sorry it seems to have been taken out of context. I accept responsibility, and truly sorry if anyone thought my words meant kick back and take your time. I meant them at its most literal meaning, wait for the newsletter to get instructions on how to proceed.

Aww!

Anyway, I don't really think it was in just 1 hour. If you look at the registration details thread, the first person to say they got registered was at about 6:30pm (disboards eastern time) and people were still saying that they had just finished registering at about 9:30pm. So there was at least 3 hours there.

Imagine how fast those 2000 slots would have gone if everyone had known about it in advance. It would have been like trying to get into a host trade room. The lag that creates while over 1000 people are trying to be the first to get in and only about 200 or so people actually make it in.

I also think you gave the right advice.
But, anyone who has been playing for more than just a couple months should have realized by now how unpredictable just the newsletter is let alone all of VMK.
The last few months have been very unpredictable. Just this month alone, we were caught unaware with the ride-a-thon. We also were caught unaware when they started releasing something new every single day. Now it seems as though they've stopped that.
No one knows what will happen from one day to the next or what rules will change.

Also, I don't see how VMK could have stopped people from registering mules. No matter how they did the registration, whether giving us several days notice or not or having a lottery, someone would still have been upset. There were only 2000 slots open and there are more than 5000 players. The majority of players were going to miss out on registration. There will always be someone to cry "foul" when they don't make it.

I happened to be reading DIS and just happened to be reading the thread when registration opened up. So I actually made it in.

For the record, I have been playing since September of '05 and this will be my first competition. :)

Wow, I never intended to accuse anyone in particular here on the board. I hop from many VMK sites and discussed my experience in general.

I just thought it was interesting that no one would tell me about past prizes or the way a contest was run. It is obvious that those who knew there was limited registration in the past would have an advantage.

No hard feelings. :grouphug:

I believe you gave the right info. We have had all ride room compeitions this is the first room no ride required one we have had.

Let's say Aengus told people asking about the rides they spend say 20,000 credits to get the ride pieces they needed since ride parts are not cheap. And then find out they could have used their credits on something else they really wanted instead.

Yes I was building rooms but they had nothing to do with the possible competition. Just like to build.

The rules change all the time. What if it was a group competition that we have had and your rooom did not fit into what the group decided to do. Have to start all over again.

So as one can see I believe the advice was wise knowing the background of how each one has been slightly to totally different.

Also I never thought of the past 2,000 limit never crossed my mined. I believe no one intentionally held any information back from you. If you can post a thread other than the one Aengus did I might understand better.

When we did group builds it took a week to fill up the spots. Last time it did not close in an hour.

Also last time we were told in the newsletter when sign ups would begin. So if they had followed the way they did before you would have known all you needed to know.

But they did not. Had nothing to do with veterns knowing or not. I was not even going to sign up till I thought what would I build. But decided to registered before I got busy doing somethign else.

Has no idea it would fill in an hour. I would guess most veterns are in the same spot as me.

And yes you are saying we had an advantage that I do not believe we did.
If we did the UK and West coast veterns would not have missed out too.

Absolutely the best possible advice:) Each competition has been totally different, and in the past vmk has given us at least a week's notice before beginning the registration. Some have been individual contests and others have been teams. Some had a limit on how many could enter and some did not. It was impossible to know anything other than the fact that there would be a contest. We were all thrown by the lack of notice.

Wow, I never intended to accuse anyone in particular here on the board. I hop from many VMK sites and discussed my experience in general.

You may not have been accusing anyone particular person, but you are saying that people intentionally withheld info to gain an advantage. That is so not the case. As I said above, no one knew that there would be a limit and no one knew that they would suddenly post the registration. In all past competitions, they have given fair warning as to when registrations would be. Any info that anyone had about previous contests, would not have helped you at all. Each has been different, each with their own rules. The only people that had any advantage here, were the people that happened to be reading either the DIS or the vmk homepage when it was announced. I have been playing quite awhile and have been in two other contests, and almost missed it myself, because I had not been at home or on the computer at all that day. I found it by accident at midnight, just because I decided to read the newsletter. There was no one withholding info to gain an advantage - it would not have helped them at all.

On a side note - I posted the rules from the previous competitions here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=22215472&postcount=105 so that people could see that there was no consistancy between them other than the fact that we had advanced notice to register in other contests.
