One of the boys bought a large star wars light saber. I have had him split it into 3 parts. Is it ok to put in carrying that way or does it need to go into checked luggage?

I am thinking carrying is ok but need confirmation.

Thanks!

I am thinking you should put it in checked just to preempt any hassles that might occur.

When we bought ours we had no problems with them being in the carry on. In fact they will be joining us for SWW in a month!

We packed ours into checked luggage because that's where we had the room. But I have to imagine that broken down into three parts would be fine. After all, the probably see ALOT of those things come through the airport in Orlando.
I hope you had a great trip:)

I thought I'd come back with an update.
When the boy packed up his carryon, he didn't have any room left for his light saber so I put it in my checked luggage.

I was interested to see that the TSA did open my checked luggage. Since that was the only new item in it and it wasn't inspected on the flight to California, I figure the light saber triggered the luggage inspection by the TSA. We did have it broken down.

I wanted to post our experience for anyone who is interested.
