Now what? So much for my 11 month window! We are relocating to Bluffton and obviously won't be visiting HHI resort too often now! We absolutely LOVED it there though. So I guess we will have to live with the 7 month window and see what it gets us at WDW. Ya think there's any chance they would make a deal with us if we were buying another 100 or so points at another resort? Maybe they could make a trade with us for our 150 HHI for VB or somewhere else. Well, one can dream! Anyone have any similar experience?

Not in moving near a home resort, but after our first DVC trip, we wished we had a different home resort (that's why I always encourage people to visit BEFORE you sign). We looked in to our options to change, but decided it was too much of a hassle.

What were your options? We are buying into BCV having never stayed there. Can you switch home resorts?

I thought the only way to make a drastic change like that would be to sell your original contract and buy a resale or get on Disney's wait list.

I imagine there is no way to not lose money on a deal like that, assuming you are making the change shortly after buying in. True?

I'd love it if there was another way to correct home resort "mistakes." If there are any, it would be good to know.

P.S. What is your home resort, Simba's Mom. And why didn't you like it?

Some year, I plan to stay at HHI during peak season and figure I'll need to trade with a HHI owner to have the 11 month window. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd love to secure a grand villa at the 11 month window too. Maybe you can use the rent/trade board to your benefit. Also, it seems as though people mention it not being too hard to get OKW at 7month, so maybe that'll work for you. Congratulations on moving to such a wonderful place!

i have an august use year and have 152 hh points and 300 okw points. if anyone would like to work something out, i'd LOVE to trade some okw for HH points! i need more here! we're here now and would love to stay longer! too much money, too many points! lol!

Stop your whinning............you're getting out of the northeast.....what more do ya want? ;) If you loved HH I'll bet you will love it more for shorter trips. With a little bit of planning, and if you are not too fussy, there will almost always be times that you can get at WDW. We have never not been able to get in at WDW with a little flex and we book not too far out. Good luck with your move, I envy you!

I am soooo happy (and nervous) about leaving the northeast, but was worried about our vacations none the less. Well, come to find out that the elementary school in Bluffton is year round so our school schedule and breaks are different than the mainstream. So maybe a 7 month window won't be so bad afterall!:) :D

Unfortunately, DVC can't just swap out resorts. We own real estate, not points, so the only way to make a change is to sell what you have and purchase new.

That said, I don't think you'll have a problem booking at WDW. Sometimes you may have to stay on the wait list or take your second choice of resorts but I'm betting you'll make out fine 9 times out of 10.

Congratulations on your move to SC!

Me too!!!!! Can't wait also to have such a short trip! NY to FL with 3 kids is a nightmare! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

You could always hang out on this board and the rent trade board and see if someone is willing to "trade" ownership. Might want to check with the monderator to make sure that type of post would be allowed. Another option is the Timeshare Users Group. If you found someone willing to switch, you would have to pay closing costs, but beyond that it might work out. The cleanest option is to sell and repurchase another home resort. You can try the 7 month window and see how it works, there's no rush is there? Enjoy your move, sounds wonderful.

I really do envy you. My wife and I have fallen in love with HHI and have made 5 DVC trips there (we own at OKW). We have decided we want to retire there someday (about 15 years from now). Unfortunately, but the time we are ready to retire we won't be able to afford anything :)

:) we have always wanted to retire there too, that's why we are moving now. We can afford a home now and our children will be "home" in the Carolinas by then. I don't want to retire and move thousands of miles from my kids and grandkids. Now my dh has another 25 years he can give to another company if he so chooses and I can continue my nursing career.
And we will have time to enjoy DVC even more!!!! Uh oh...I smell some new Saratoga points comin' on!

I don't really have an answer to your original question...as I think you'd have to sell your HH points and buy other points if you wanted to change.

I just wanted to say "hi!" and welcome you to SC. We moved here in May from PA...and we love it. WDW is so much closer! But we're actually probably more likely to visit HHI now than we were from PA....its about 3 hours away for us now and would make a nice little trip. I fully plan to check it out if we ever have enough points....right now though we're using up our points more quickly than before because we're able to head to FL more often!

So anyway...you may find that you just need more points in general now too. From Bluffton, I'm guessing you could be to WDW in 5 or 6 hours! Enjoy SC!
