I'm so sorry for your loss. We've had several "flushings" over the years.
If you're not too sad to laugh a little, I have a funny story about the last time we had a flushing. DD was probably about 8 or 9, and had brought home several tadpoles from science class. One by one, that did what most tadpoles do when brought into our house - rose to the top, turned over and floated. So there we were, standing in the bathroom, DD's eyes brimming with tears, when I said, and I swear I didn't mean to, it just came to me, "Farewell, Tad, you would have been a great frog but you croaked." Well, as soon as I realized what I'd said, I completely lost it, and had to run shrieking from the room because I was laughing so hard that DD got mad at me!!
It is a classic pet funeral story at our house now - and DD did eventually see the humor in it, although not for a while!!!
