We are ready to purchase now we have to decide between the 2 VGF or Poly we love both. A small listing of 50-60 points which do you think would be harder to book at 11 and 7 month mark studio...As we will only have enough points for 2-3 night stay in a studio in each and on the other years stay else where.

I'm hearing its even hard to book a studio at 11 months. Is this the case?

At VGF yes you might have to book at 11 months to get a studio, depending on when you want to go. The Poly it's too early to tell, but right now owners seem to be able to book between 11 months and 7 months.

My husband is more of Poly type person laid back he said GF seemed like you have to whisper. My thoughts GF sold out in a few years what does that say for itself. I would like to be able to stay at both.

Just be prepared for the DVC salesperson to tell you that you cannot be added to the VGF wait list. They closed it a few weeks ago.

It could be a year or two on the wait list if you did get on there, just be prepared. But I guess if you really do want to stay there in a studio most years, then yes you would want to purchase there.

Will you be going mostly during peak DVC season? If so, expect to only be able to book at your home resort.

For the prime last 3 months of 2015, people were reporting they were shut out of VGF at 11 months. People with longer stays can book before a person booking a couple nights. Some were also walking reservations. Walking a reservation can be done as long as you have enough points for 2 noghts, but it requires many more phone calls than the person booking 10 days. In the future, DVC may decide to change policy on walking rezervations. The most.likely change may be to allow a couple changes to a reservation, but charge a few after that. This would impact smaller point holders more than larger point holders.

VGF will always be the hardest to book at 7 months and even for some dates at 11 months. It is pure and simple, there is a very limited number of studios and the demand is huge.

Once Poly is 100% build and inventory declared, booking a studio at 11 months will be pretty easy, but some dates (school holidays) will be tough for 7 months (but not as hard as VGF)

VGF is more and more becoming a problem for studios even at times at 11 months out for owners. During DVC's high demand season, late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan, there have been a number of times when the studios disappeared before 11 months out (because an owner can book up to 7 nights at 11 months out from date of arrival, owners can sometimes be blocked out at 11 months out by those with arrival dates just a little before theirs). That problem was created by the fact that VGF has only 46 studios, and points needed per night and the cost per point were so high that the vast majority of those who purchased, purchased to get only studios, i.e., both the points for the studios and most the points for other size rooms were sold mainly to those who only wanted or could afford studios, with the result that the studios have far more demand than supply.

As a result, I would not recommend buying VGF if studios are what you want and you want to go in the high demand season. Moreover, even if you usually want time during tthe rest of the year from mid-Jan to late Sep, you should likely not buy unless you can usually make reservations at 11 months out.

I am not sure I can even recommend Poly if you always want a studio because it could have some of the same issues. Few can afford the points needed for regular stays in the bungalows and those bungalow points are being sold, as are points assigned to studios, to those who will almost always want studios. Thus, Disney has once again created a resort where the demand for studios can significantly exceed the supply once the resort is sold out. Poly has a better chance of avoiding the horrendous problems at VGF for studios simply because Poly has so many studios but that is something we will not really know for a few years.

A fixed week purchase is the best way to guarantee a VGF, PVB, or Aulani room and category each year. It costs a bit more but the booking is automatic and guaranteed.

How many points do you need to purchase to buy a fixed week? My biggest fear is buy at the resort we want and then when we go to book we can not stay there after we spent all this money. With that makes me go back to just buy anywhere that's cheapest.

I know, it makes me wonder if it was a good idea, given the costs of VGF, to put that many dedicated 2 bedroom units into a building that small. Seems like having all lockoffs except for the grand villas would have been smarter, but hindsight is 20/20.

I believe it's a 10% points premium to do the fixed week contract.

Take a weeks worth of points and add 10%. You don't have to use the fixed week, you can cancel the reservation and book at the same resort if there is availability or use the points somewhere else at 7 months.
