We’ve Arrived at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point!

Shade seems like a fair trade off for the able bodied hoofing it so those who need the golfcarts have a shorter wait... I wonder why they skipped that. I imagine they'd have to design it with nature (wind, rain, sun, lightning) in mind but they aren't the first folk who needed to do it.

I have heard they wanted the pier to be neutral to not stand out . It isn’t supposed to be like a “hey look it’s Disney” kind of island
I think there's a middle ground between the pier being neutral, blending in, and over the top Disney theming that still would allow for benches and a bit of shade. Also, people are most likely going to be wearing flip flips/water shoes/something similar which do not provide a great deal of support. I can understand why people may not want to bring sneakers just for the walk on the pier.

I think everyone should go and check it out for themselves before passing judgement based on videos other people have taken/their opinions.

It really is a beautiful place. Are there some issues? Yes, and some things can be fixed or changed. And there are always teething problems when something is new. But it is definitely worth a visit

If they can’t install shade or a cover for rain, maybe they should have umbrellas and ponchos at the beginning and end of the pier

Like the new piers at Port Nassau, might overhead covering AND BENCHES be planned for the future? A 1/2 mile walk in the SUN or RAIN will not be a fun thing for returning cruisers.

I don’t know about benches (I doubt it though) but as far as I am aware there is no plans for overhead covering

The covers in Nassau did NOTHING to protect cruisers from the rain that came yesterday.

It was raining so hard that only being inside was protection enough from the rain.

You don't need bright colors to provide some Disney theming. Disney's Imagineering genius used to be seamlessly blending Disney theming into different settings, like at Castaway Cay, the Polynesian resort, Wilderness Lodge, etc.

Disney isn't good at designing new things anymore. Imagineering has really gone downhill in the past decade.

Everything is centered around IPs now. It used to be more subtle but it's been much more in your face the last few years

There doesn't seem to be that much to do, even the slide area it's not really a pool slide it's a splash pad so it's really only for little kids, my 13 yr old didn't see it as something she could go on, also the slide are small. The place where you leave your kids only has a lame splash area. What about older kids? No basketball court or any other form of entertainment?
Also I didn't see any shark net, we live in Australia and we have shark nets, don't they have shark net in the Caribbeans?

At Castaway Cay, there is netting that separates the family beach areas and snorkeling Lagoon from the ocean. But, Disney also built up the breakwater there so that it’s easier to put in netting. Lookout Cay doesn’t currently have a lagoon in that same way, so I’m not sure how they would net it. There are no nets on the Serenity Bay of Castaway, and the way the family and adult beaches appear to be laid out at Lookout Cay would be similar to Serenity. Shark nets are not common in the Caribbean.

I was thinking the same thing. My son and nephews only care about there being a basketball and/or slides. Perhaps they have big slides but I haven't seen a picture of one yet

Are there float rentals?

I know it sounds silly but without them I won't even go through the hassle of getting off the ship. We are semi locked into a late Sept sailing (can move cruise but flights, hotel, and travel insurance are locked in). Im trying to tell myself at least I can layout on a nice raft in beautiful water like at CC...

My teen son is the same. No big slides, no dedicated teen space and that Play, Play pavillion looks like its mostly for little kids and character events. I am not seeing basketball or even ping pong yet. We are already booked on not one but two cruises that hit LP. Our Sept sailing is pretty locked in and there looks to be so little for him to do at LP.

The second one is his birthday cruise and I am now working to see what we can move that to. He loves the Fantasy but in Feb it hits LP on almost all of the trips. I would move over to the Dream but their are rumors that part of Vibe is going to be sacrificed during drydock so I am not sure what to do.
