We’ve Arrived at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point!

Will be interesting to see how it goes. These vlogger videos are always a little biased and I don’t trust them. I actually wish Disney would not have them at all. Stop giving them a free cruise to vlog about it. When guests start going in a few weeks we will see what it is really like. And maybe Disney will improve what needs fixing.

These guys did a decent job exploring everything and they actually paid for their cruise, so that always bumps it up in my book.

Does anyone remember what the vegetation was like at Castaway Cay when it first opened? Watching the super enthused video and it’s very stark. But I’m assuming it will grow in over time.

You don't speak for everyone nor do you know everyone's abilities
No I don’t, but most able bodied people can walk half a mile. So what’s your solution? Do you think they should have made it a tender port?

They have golf carts to accommodate people that can’t or don’t want to walk so I’m not sure what the issue is.

Like it’s been stated they have that carts for people that cant walk it. I’ve been to CC enough times to know that many people choose to walk. I would say the majority. I don’t think it will be as big an issue as people are making it out to be.

I probably would have made this comment a decade ago, it's easy to take being healthy for granted if you've never known anything else -- I truly hope that nothing happens in your life that changes it, but I hope you consider yourself fortunate that a > 1mi round trip in tropical temperatures doesn't cause you any concerns.
Again they have golf carts for people with mobility issues or other health conditions.

According to one travel advisor they were told only guests in HA rooms could request pier service. Hopefully that is corrected but even then dragging exhausted kids down that pier in full sun is going to be difficult for some families. They didn’t even bother to paint it to make it enticing “hey just walk to the Mickey picture and we will take a break” can work miracles vs something looking endless like it does.

I would rather DCL have not put money into this island and instead offered more different itineraries.

I have heard they wanted the pier to be neutral to not stand out . It isn’t supposed to be like a “hey look it’s Disney” kind of island

I don’t know that there’s any point in continuing this, but I guess I’ll try one more time. Yes, I would agree that for many adults and older kids that walking half a mile is probably not an issue. But, many people travel with young children and toddlers. And for them, this might be more of a challenge. It also seems to be the case that that half mile doesn’t offer any sort of benches or stopping points for people that will struggle. @Mags2002 reported the strollers will be available, but not on the pier itself. You will have to get to shore in order to use one.

Yes, they do appear to have carts for people who physically cannot make the walk. But you also stated that it’s for people who do not want to make the walk, and nothing that has been reported seems to indicate that carts will be available for people who do not wish to walk.

We will see how things develop moving forward, but you might be a little more thoughtful as to why people do have concerns.

How long is the walk compared to the pier at Cozumel? Too bad they don’t have those little pedicabs you can hire.

You want me to be more thoughtful? DCL has provided transportation for people that cant make the walk. I'm sure with guest feedback they will make more accommodations. There's only been one cruise. There is a reason DCL had to build a floating pier. It is what it is. If it doesn't work for you{not you personally} go to CC instead. Maybe they will put in benches, but if you need a bench. Why not just request a golf cart? If you just don't want to walk. My guess is DCL will accommodate you to. They are all about there customer service ratings.

I was super excited about the Wish, but the lack of running track and the overall design was disappointing. There's nothing I can do about that, but I have the option to choose other ships.

In my opinion nothing about the new island looks better than CC. I wouldn't spend extra to go there. Walking on floating pier is probably the most unique thing about it. We did this in Stockholm. I thought it was way better than tendering.

I think assuming DCL is going to change things because of feedback isn't necessarily true. While I enjoy the Pirate menu, that menu has often been mentioned in feedback that guests don't love it and it is still there. Guests have mentioned that they miss the virtual muster drill during covid that other cruise lines kept but that isn't back.

The word from DCL is they expect and want most guests to walk it and the feedback from most guests is that they really would rather not- especially on the return trip. I am not sure how they can manage that in a way that makes all guests happy or is even fair. Is a parent with an exhausted 7 yo deserve a ride over a person with mobility need? Is it first come first serve regardless of need when it is a limited resource?

There isn't space for golf carts and benches and I am guessing that also means there isn't even space for things like water stations with ice towels mid way or roll in\roll out shade (and I am unsure how windy it is)

Guests have also had valid questions about sudden storms and rain.

For guests who do not love the new ships most of our classic ships are stopping here and while I know staying on the ship is an option I think there are some of us that wish Disney had not poured money into this island and instead provided more unique itineraries.
