I have been debating whether I should post or not.

Although mine and DH's upcoming escape vow renewal is important to us, we are older and our plans are not as exciting as most are here. But I really enjoy reading everyone's plans!

Also, I am not computer savvy as far as sending photos, etc. (wish I could) but finally decided it is another view of things and may be helpful to someone.

DH and I met at business college when we were 33 and were married 2 years later (if you can do the math, we are both now 55 ;) ). Although we were both married before, we had to start all over with nothing but love  lol!but we made it and the kids are all gainfully employed and on their own, and we have the house to ourselves!

At our original wedding, I wore a Jessica McClintock tea length dress in white and DH wore a very nice suit---which he still has and fits him! (He is one of those eat anything you want anytime of the day or night people that never gains a pound-----unlike me!) My 2 daughters were my attendants and A friend and my son were DH's.

A guy DH knew volunteered to videotape the service and reception for us to save us money--except he did not show up! I didn't know until I was walking back the aisle that he was not there--DH knew I would be very upset, so he chose not to tell me until after the ceremony. (Remember this is back in 1988 when not that many people carried video cameras) Then, my brother who takes photographs as a hobby, offered to take the wedding photos with his new camera--well before the first photo, his camera fell off the tripod and broke. So we have no video and only a few snapshots of our original wedding.:sad2: LESSON: HIRE PROFESSIONALS FOR IMPORTANT OCCASIONS!!! And we went to the Poconos for our honeymoon where it rained every day.

We went to Niagara Falls for our 10th Anniversary and were remarried there in a little chapel. We got a simple video of us standing there saying our vows this time.

Thru the years, DH was not that interested in Disney World---and I have always been crazy about it!:yay: He would come with me, if I couldn't find someone else to go along on my trips, but never was too excited.

Last year, my youngest daughter got married in October, which tied up a lot of the year. Occasionally DH would say "what are we going to do for our
20th anniversary next year?" But I couldn't think about it then until the wedding was over. Then the holidays were here and we were busy again. One day DH said, "How about going to Disney World for our 20th? Wonder if we could get remarried there?" Well he didn't have to ask me twice!:yay:

I never knew Disney did a smaller event (Escape Vow Renewal) that would be what we would want to do until I did some research. So we didn't start planning this trip until New Years and it is coming up in May!! LESSON: IF I EVER DO THIS AGAIN, I AM STARTING TO PLAN SOONER!!

I will post our plans so far next post. Thanks for reading!!

Congrats!!!!So this May you are having your renewal? What is the date?

Awwwwwwwwwwe how sweet! Your DH sounds like a wonderful man. It seems as if he realizes what WDW means to you and is interested in having a vow renewal there! :cool1: GREAT!

Our 20th anniversary will be in May of this year and we have a VR planned for November. I'm jealous of you to have the house to yourselves. We just went away for a night this weekend by ourselves and it was wonderful. DOn't get me wrong, I love my kids and I even missed them while we were gone, but it was quite lovely to do what we wanted to when we wanted to do it.

I can't wait to hear more about your VR. Please share as much of your planning as you are comfortable with. We love to hear plans, both large and small!

When are you planning your VR in May? THere are several May brides and I think there are even two different May DisBrides meets...One in early May, and the one Im attending on May 24th at 'Ohana.

Happy Planning!

Lisa

Post away ! My DH was 45 and I was pushing 40 when we got married last year. Not a first marriage for either of us. So I was one of the oldies on the board, but gleaned a lot of info from others on here and am now giving back ! I already have DH considering a VR for our 10th !

welcome and look forward to reading your plans. We our planning for our 20th ann. VR in 2010 so we aren't youngsters either. Have fun planning!

You never know who can use the info you post. So post away.
We are planning a vow renewal every 5 years at WDW, and we are not young either. well atleast we are young at heart:thumbsup2

Thanks you all for reading and being so kind!!

Lynn5700, I love those photos of the 2 of you---what a cute couple!

I will have to post our plans in a few posts---I have to get to bed soon as tomorrow I am having knee surgery---but my surgeon promises me I will be walking fine by the trip and VR:thumbsup2 so I am holding him to it!! Coming up the aisle I didn't want to look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame in a nice dress!:lmao:

Anyway, our anniversary and the VR date is May 21, 2008. One of my DD's princess: birthday is on May 20th and she has never gotten to celebrate it at Disney World so we made reservations at the Castle Royal Table and she is thrilled! (she is in her mid 30's and still waiting for the right prince to come along) So we are celebrating two events while we are there!

Hope your surgery goes well and a speedy recovery! :goodvibes:

Looking forward to hearing your plans when you are feeling better!

Thank you for your kind wishes---my knee surgery went well---they had to do an additional procedure so I was down for awhile, but am up and moving and walking--still painful, but getting better every day!

Since I posted my airline cancelled our flight out of a nearby airport so that was a mess. :headache: There new options for travel were really inconvenient and after several conversations, we ended up getting a full refund and booking at a different airport with a different airline for less money!:cool1: You just never know how things will work out.

And DH changed his mind about what he was wearing for the vow renewal last week. He wore a 3 pc suit at our original wedding as that was the practical thing to do and he mentioned a few times maybe he would like to wear a tux for the vow renewal, and I thought he was kidding. Last week I told him if that is what he would like to do, we would order one---we did and it came in on Sat and fit him perfectly. Got it at JC Penney online-tux jacket and pants and Pleated tux shirt set with tie, suspenders and cuff links/button covers--cost with shipping $103.:woohoo: Also ordered a silver herringbone vest that did not arrive yet.

As a result, I decided to try to get a different dress that was a little more like an informal wedding dress and would go well with the tux. We went to get my stitches out last Friday in a larger city a few hours away and I located a few bridal shops there and thought I would see if they had anything in my size off the rack. The first shop we went in, I tried on 4 dresses and the 4th one was "the one"! :lovestruc Not what I thought I wanted, but when I tried it, I could tell by my husband's eyes it looked good on me---and when I saw it in the mirrors all around I was convinced, too.
It was 1/2 price at $199 and the owner gave me another $25 off. She was so sweet!

I wish I knew how to send a link to show the photo of the dress--have to work on that!

For photos, you have to upload them to a host site then copy the link to here.

I use photobucket. You can go there and create an account for yourself. Upload pictures from your computer then copy the "IMG" link from their site and paste it in a message here.

I hope that helps some!

Such a great story!! I can't wait to see pics of your VR!!

Congrats on finding your dress and all your plans! It will be here so soon!:goodvibes

So glad to hear your surgery went well. How exciting that you found "the dress"!!! Your plans for a family trip sound wonderful. What else do you have planned so far? Can't wait to hear more! Congratulations on 20 years of wedded bliss!

Regarding jewelry for the VR.....

Last Christmas, my husband, who is normally not that excited about gift giving, kept teasing me that he couldn't wait to give me my gift. When he handed it to me he said, "This is for the vow renewal". Inside was a diamond pendant and earrings called "The Journey" from Kay Jewelers---he was just beaming while I was crying! It was a great moment between us.

Then in January, he said we were going to get new rings, too. So he got a platinum band and I got a 14K white gold Diamond Ring-princess cut with one larger center stone and a smaller one on either side of it---then 3 channel set stones on each side--it is called Past, Present & Future. To me, it is the prettiest ring! We aren't wearing them until the VR, so I take it out now and then to play with it, then put it back. I am trying to be patient! My original tiny diamond ring and wedding band had to be fused together as they wore thin, so I retired them. I have a diamond anniversary band that I got for our 10th anniversary that I will wear with the new ring.

I got a new large Diamonique Mickey Mouse ring with 3 stones that I have been debating whether I should wear to the VR on my right hand. It is larger than my new diamond ring and I don't know if it would detract from it.

Also got a costume jewelry bracelet that is 2 rows of clear stones that I will wear--it really shines in the light.

And when I picked out my new dress, I was waiting for the seamstress to arrive and pin me, I saw a cute tiara sitting on a shelf--it wasn't a real tall one and I liked some of the detail on it as it looked a little antique (like ME) and it was on clearance----so I put it on my head and It looked so nice with the dress, I got it! I told my one DD, I am not a princess--at this age I am the Queen! :worship:

Oh, wow! All of that sounds so exciting and pretty! How wonderful that DH is so enthusiastic and his gifts were so thoughtful! :lovestruc Good thing you are tightening the knot. He definitely sounds like a keeper! :goodvibes
