My dw and I have APs. We went to WDW in May, and will be returning in September and December. We had also thought that we might try again in April or "early" May 2002. Well, two weeks ago, we found out that my dw is pregnant. This will be our first child. Our tentative due date is March 25th. Has anyone been to disney with a new born in the past? Was it a difficult experience? We have not completly made up our minds as to whether or not we will try four a 4th trip on our APs.

I have taken my 6 week old along with her 2 sisters who were 2 and 8 at the time. I have also taken my middle DD when she was 3 months old. The younger, the easier.

Congrats on the pregnancy. Best of health to mom and unborn princess/prince.

IMHO, your never too young or too old for Disney!!

I took a 3 month old with his 5yo and 3yo brother and sister. It can be pretty easy, especially if Mom is nursing so that you don't have to haul bottles. With my first child though, I was not up to it at 6 or 8 weeks. I was sore, exhausted and just pretty much overwhelmed with figuring him out. If I were you, I wouldn't plan on that 4th trip. You'll be having so much fun with the new baby that you won't miss going.

And we are going the 2nd week in Feb. DS will be about 4 months by then and we are so excited. I agree with the above post that 6 weeks might be a little soon because of your energy level not your child's. Any chance of postponing it a couple of weeks? If not then I say go, you are going to have to go at a different pace then you would normally go anyway. And maybe after 6 weeks of being home you guys will need a change of scenery.
Good luck and congratulations!

Make sure that you have a stroller that has good covering of the baby since you cannot use sunscreen on babies until they are 6 months old. The also sell clip on umbrellas for the strollers so that they baby is completely out of the sun.

I don't know how the clip on fans would be for a very young baby.

Plan on taking a lot of breaks for feedings and resting. I say plan it and then see how your wife is feeling after the baby is born. I was fine after my first one physically but very tired because of the lack of sleep. I also had a very easy delivery so that might have helped.
Unless you have to purchase airfare then I would wait and see how she feels

We did Disney last year with a 7-week old & the only problem was with us! We were used to planning a schedule & sticking to it, as far as what we were going to see & when. That doesn't work so well with a newborn! By day 2 we were more relaxed after we decided to go with the flow & work around the baby's schedule (we also had a 3-year-old with us). Take full advantage of the Baby Stations in the parks...they are super clean, fully stocked with supplies, formula, diapers, etc and even have private nursing rooms (and they are air conditioned!) We found a Kolcraft umbrella stroller that reclined, and it reclined enough for our son who was only 7 pounds when we took him. We also used the front pack carrier when the 3-year-old wanted to be in the stroller. We also found that you can safely take an infant on most rides & attractions in your arms. I thought we'd be a minority having such a young baby there, but were pleasantly surprised to see that many families take newborns to Disney. We actually met another couple at our resort with a three DAY old!!! Have fun!

I'd have to agree with people saying that most likely, I'd delay the trip. I just had my 2nd child and by 6 weeks, I don't think I was up to a trip anywhere. Not that you want to think about this, but if your DW needs a c-section, a trip at that time would be impossible, I only bring this up snce I needed a c-section with my first child(2nd child was delivered normally). Remember that a six week old won't be sleeping through the night yet, probably still getting up every 2 - 3 hrs to feed, so you'll be very tired, and trying to tour after that..... Now, we are going next week with DS who is now 4 months, sleeping through the night, and dr said it's o.k. to put on sunscreen, so I'm not worrked, with a baby that young, I'd be afraid of the sun and heat. Young babies have a very hard time regulating their body temperature and they overheat much more easily than older babies. Now remember this is only my opinion, you have to do what you feel is the best for your baby and your wife. I'd definately wait until after the baby is born to make any plans, that way it's the best way if your able to go great, if you can't you don't have any plans that need to be cancelled!! Congrats on your impending arrival!!!!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!!!

Individual Opinions is exactly what we were looking for. Like I said, this will be our first, so we don't know what to expect. I did not know about no sunscreen on an infant!!!!!

No decision has been made, but I think that we will more than likely skip the April 2002 trip.

Thanks again!

Edward

Our little girl was 4 weeks (doctor said it was OK). It was relaxing to sit on a bench in the middle of EPCOT, with my new baby girl, and take it all in. Mom enjoyed getting out and running around with our son (no feeling left for him).

We had a covered stoller, which is very important. The nursing station at Epcot is exceptional.

It was great experience, plus my little girl will make her 4th trip to WDW 11 days before her 4th Bday.
